LV Leslie, also known as Leslie the Poet is a versatile female mc who knows no boundaries. She rocks beats in genres that range from electronic dance music all the way to underground hip hop. Her style is heavily influenced by her surroundings. She grew up in the San Fernando Valley and later moved to the bay area where she obtained a Bachelors Degree in Architecture from the University of California Berkeley. She participated in the 2012 College Unions Poetry Slam Invitational hosted in Los Angeles as a performing poet while representing UC Berkeley and placed third in the nation. This mixture of LA hip hop/poetry culture and Bay Area hip hop/poetry culture is very prominent in all of her work. Depending on her mood, she can “go smart” or “go dumb” on any track. Her main focus is female empowerment through all mediums. It is a recurring theme in her visual art, photography, poetry and music. She uses a mixture of real life experiences, morbid fantasies, and mythology to get her point across. She is driven by creativity, originality and innovation. Her goal is to step outside the box as much as she can.
