Being the only daughter in their household, Lyra share a special bond with her father, as someone she always looks up to and adore as she grew up.

Her brother hadn’t taken her decision to move to Asteria well, as it’s the first time they had lived separately from one another. However, being supportive as they always are, Hyun-Sik is the one who helped her manage some papers and living arrangements for her, and lend his hand to help her cope with her life during the first few months here in Asteria.

adorable, soft-looking pouty lips on display in attempt to sway her to not move from her place. it worked without a hitch because gem couldn’t imagine moving from this spot at all. 

you don’t have to go anywhere was enough to make the corners of her lips turn upwards with a soft smile. 

“and i won’t.” she reassured softly, voice hardly breaking a whisper. her heart chugged along, thudding louder in her ears than it was before. gemma’s eyes caught hers and while she felt utterly frozen, her body was moving closer at a criminally slow rate.

All her worries were replaced by a sudden nervousness that slowly creep into her. As if from this distance, she could feel Gemma’s breath fanning against the side of her face. Her eyes sought for the other’s expression, as if Lyra was half expecting her friend to pull away. But, when she didn’t, a small sigh escape from her lips.

“–Good..”

She murmured. Feeling more daring that she used to be, she looped her arm around Gemma’s and scooted closer to her friend. It was all for the warmth, she said to herself, before she fixated her gaze back to the screen.

Catalina is stunned. She’s stunned and impressed and partly proud. She grins, and quirked a brow, “Before you buy me anything, you need to give me the name of the goddess before me.” She places her palms together and bows her head, she grin growing, “Seriously, like, I feel like I need you in my life–I’m Cat.” He holds out a hand for the other to shake, “It’s a pleasure to meet you, like, I feel like I need to buy you some more sweets.”

The mermaid ran her tongue against her lips, licking any traces of sugar that’s left from the deliciously sweet fluff.

“--The name is Lyra. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Cat. Thank you for the treat. I want to shake your hand, but I’m afraid we’ll have to wait until I wash my hand.”

A chuckle fell from her lips, before she gets back to what’s left of her hamburger and have another bite.

“--Well.. We can get more sweets once I’m finished this and only if you let me pay for it..”

“it’s well packed.” gemma complimented all that lyra had brought for food. looking at the screen the movie had started to play, gemma was distracted for a few moments before she looked back to lyra.

gemma saw the skin of lyra’s face begin to pinken from the cold wind whipping around them. and she felt bad about it. she should have thought further ahead. the familiar shook her head. “it’s not fine,” she corrected as she scooted herself a bit closer. gem pulled one arm out from her jacket and put it around lyra instead. it was large enough to fit the both of them thankfully. “this okay?” she asked looking over the mergirl’s features. she didn’t even think about how her plan to keep her warm would be invading her personal space until she was already there.

lyra felt warm and nice against her side. gem knew that she shouldn’t have taken notice to how relaxing and electric the contact felt, but she did anyways. she cleared her throat and pushed the thought away. “if you need me to run and grab blankets i totally can. it wouldn’t take me but a few minutes.”

Glancing at her friend, a small chuckle slipped from her lips. She was soon followed for the other’s suit and distracted by the scene played against the screen. A hint of bewilderment flashes through her features at the other’s words, which soon followed by the warmth against her shoulder. She was only realized about how close they’ve become, after she looked up and fixated her gaze against the other woman’s. Her lips parted open, yet she was still struggling to find any word to offer to her friend. It wasn’t because she feels reluctant of Gemma’s spontaneity. But much to her surprise, she was more than comfortable with the idea of having her friend within her personal space.

"--Th-- this is nice.. and warm. Gem, you don’t have to go anywhere.”

She musters a pout, hoping that it’d be more than enough to change her mind.

gemma took the juice and smiled. “nah, no reason to thank me.” she shook her head. “i thought it might be fun, ya know?” she nudged into lyra with her shoulder. 

“even though we don’t have a car to watch it as intended, i think this is honestly nicer than that, really. we have a whole picnic and everything. thank you for that.” the familiar smiled to her again. the movie was starting to roll in front of them, but it seemed to have a long opening credits scene that didn’t seem like it’d be too crucial to miss. gemma could hear the wind above whipping around them. “i’m hoping that it doesn’t get too cold or anything. i didn’t think about the wind picking up.”

“--No reason to thank me.. I thought movie night wouldn’t be complete without a few things to nibble.”

She musters a laugh, as she eyed the array of snacks and food she prepared. Although, it doesn’t seem fitting to be called few, quantity-wise. She had brought enough for more than two people. Her attention quickly shifted to the screen ahead of them, before the wind swept against her face. It took fronds of her hair too and made them into lashes that beat her face and blew above her head. Looking at her friend, Lyra shook her head and gnawed on her lip lightly. It was rather chilly for her, and she recklessly neglected her scarf on her bed, thinking that it was bearable enough for her to be outside. 

“--It’s fine, Gem! It’s bearable. Beside, I’m just glad that it’s not raining or they might have to cancel the screening..”

She cleared her throat lightly, before scooting slightly bit closer to Gemma, as she tried to ignore the bloom that grows on her cheek and hoping that she wouldn’t mind.

Cat blinks at this marvelous being and her words. She shakes her head, and looks away for a moment. “If you tell me that, I won’t believe you.” She says, and she pushes the cotten candy closer tot he other girl, “Do it right now. If you can i’ll give you whatever you want. And if you can’t, i get an i told you so victory and to do a little dance.” She smiles and leans back in the seat, “Please prove me wrong, please wow me.”

“–You got yourself a deal.”

She flashes a grin at the other and took the sweet treat that was offered in her way. Another glance at the perfectly oval fluff of pink cotton candy, she took her first bite that dissolved sweetly in her tongue. A soft hummed fell from her before she knead the rest of the fluff into her mouth, in an ungodly pace. Licking off the sugar crumbs from her lips, Lyra looked at the young woman.

“–Well? Looks like I owe you another dessert..”

lyra and gem hadn’t spent a whole lot of time together lately. for a few reasons, main one’s being daunting work schedules. they thought the drive in would be a perfect place to get a little more caught up. even if they wouldn’t be talking a lot through the movie, the company was nice. gemma took a few moments to look over everything in her bag for a blanket once they had decided a spot to watch the movie. there were mostly cars so it was difficult to find a place to actually sit on the ground. thankfully, they found what she considered to be the perfect spot. there was some space from the vehicles and the grass below them was soft.

gem quickly laid out the blanket and smiled up to her friend. “i don’t wanna brag, but i think this is the best spot known to man.” she plopped down on the blanket and patted the spot next to her so lyra could join.

It is the first time she ever got the chance to visit an outdoor movie screening. Usually, she opted to go to the cinema. But she had to admit that even if it’s something new for her to try, she couldn’t handle the excitement to finally have the chance to experience it with her dear friend. Lyra took her preparation to bring some food with them rather seriously. A hint of a smile tugged at her lips as Gemma lead them to one of the spots they manage to find amidst of the crowd.

“--I had no doubt. I mean, look at how perfect our distance to the screen..”

She musters a soft laugh and gestured toward ahead of them, as she settled by her side. Glancing at the young woman, she reached for the bottle filled with orange juice and handed it at her friend.

“--Thank you, again, for taking me here..”

“okay, look, here’s the deal.” catalina starts as she slides into the seat beside the person. she didn’t have time to even see who this person was, but she could find a single ounce of her that cared. “i have this.” she’s says, and puts a jumbo cotton candy down in front of them, it’s big enough to cover their faces. she looks at the other person, “i won it. and this, i can’t eat this by myself, but i also can’t waste it, understand?” she taps the side of her head and grins, “so, here’s my proposal, we totally go ham on this thing together yeah? we knock this sucker right out of the park.”

Lyra had opted to keep herself occupied with her second portion of the hamburger and a bottle of water that was sold by one of the plenty of food stalls inside the carnival. It’s not that she’s in the mood of trying on the rides, as the day has become too warm for her own liking. She finally found a perfect spot to shielding her from the scorching sun while enjoying her food, when someone appears on her side. Taking a bite from her dish, she watched the young woman blankly as she began to talk.

“--It’s an interesting proposition. What if I tell you that I can wipe it out from its existence in less than one minute?”

She had found her way into the location just before the downpour had started. The pounding in her heart as she gazes out of the window causes her to shake her head. It was something she’d always wanted to experience. The feeling of the water hitting her skin. Her mother always rushed them inside when there was news of rain. Not allowing them to leave until she was sure that it would stop. Looking down she exhales softly, bringing the pads of her index fingers to gently massage her temples she looks around. Now the girl’s anxiety rose each time she saw the heavy rain falling.

Slowly moving through the groups of people that were already forming to hide from the storm. Looking around the coffee shop she feels her throat tighten slightly. Walking towards a table she takes a seat. It was probably for the best to sit down and regulate her breathing. She’d just have to wait out the storm. It was her own fault for not grabbing an umbrella. It was too late for her to grab a cab. Looking around the cafe she shakes her head absent-mindedly commenting.

“Is this because of the storm, or are there normally so many people here?”

Almost drenched in the rain, Lyra made a decision to run into the nearest place she happens to found during her late afternoon stroll. Just a few hours before her shift, seems like a wrong timing for her to wander around. The umbrella that hang against her door, was completely forgotten as she left her flat earlier. A quick glance at the glass window and she can tell that the pouring rain hadn’t showed any sign of stopping anytime soon. She found herself the only remaining of an empty spot, enough for two people in a rather crowded cafe. She ordered herself a cup of tea, just before her gaze landed against a familiar looking person, walking into the room. A smile grows against her lips upon catching up with what she said. 

“--I will say it’s because of the former. I don’t think it’s always this crowded at this hour..”

She musters a soft laugh, before she finally rose from her seat.

“--Hello, Tae Yun. It’s been a while, isn’t it?”

he got a lot of support and encouragement growing up, so it wasn’t new to hear someone tell him he’s going places, but he had to admit he’d never heard it some a stranger. well—lyra wasn’t a stranger, per say, not now. but she wasn’t his mother, or a work colleague. either way it’s nice to hear. he smiles bashfully, and ducks his head shyly. he enjoys the moment before speaking.  

he grins at the questions, because of course he would, “she loved to read, her room in my dad’s house is covered in books, and she made her own like, lotions. they smelled so good, and they were perfect to use if you were stressed, she would always give me them every time i visited.” he leans back in his booth, his stomach filled, “she also loved owls, like she was obsessed, it was a little weird. she new all these facts, and said they were like her spirit animal or something. but, really, who am i to judge?” he shrugs his shoulder and sighs softly. 

at her words he tilts his head, “survive? well, you seem to be managing pretty well. but i can second that it’s scary being on your own.”

Lyra raised an eyebrow and tilted her head slightly to her side. His mother sounds like a lovely person to get to know with but one part did catch her attention more than anything else. Her love for owls. She had heard about someone who has a specific obsession towards the creature in particular. But it came from someone who is related to the art of magic. While she won’t completely ruled out any chances that the person he’s looking is an ordinary human being, the possibility of her being the part of the supernatural world is equally the same. It’s just.. interesting. She folded her arms against the table and leaned toward him.

“--Do you think that you’re able to recall the books she loved to read? Maybe it will lead us our next clue? I know there are quite a selection of bookstores in this place. Not much, but still.. it could help.”

She flashed him another smile.

“--Well, the first two to three months are usually the most complicated phase, where you need to settle with the changes and unexpected things to learn about your new place. I had a fair share of struggles and issues, if I’m being honest. But, I know that you’ll hang in there..”

laughing slightly katherine kinked her eyebrow up. “you dared yourself? that is a weird ass dare to give yourself.” katherine put her hands behind her and leaned back slightly looking like she was in deep thought. “i would go with i lost a bet or something. people bet more crazy things than just swimming in cold water. trust me.” when she was younger she had seen and even experienced her fair share of dumb bets. dumb bets of having to do something well…dumb was better than some other bets she had also witnessed and done. being a little intoxicated katherine rolled her eyes slightly at her question and lent back up. “don’t become a hypochondriac. you’re fine. you’re still a supernatural being…just. you guys have special abilities even some you may not be aware of yourself.” sighing slightly katherine made her a small proposition. “if you’re that worried i can look into it personally. i might get in a little trouble, but i’m good at doing things under the radar.”

“--I could reason my way out by telling them that I took pride in being a daredevil. But, I’ll keep that in mind. I lost a bet.. yeah, that’s actually not bad at all.”

She trailed off with a smile. As it may seem, Lyra still needs some help from someone who completely understand about the kind of people that she will have to deal, when it came to their necessity overly-curious selves. She was half expecting her to confirm her suspicions about her current health state, since her parents neither confirm or deny anything, whenever she asked them about the results. However, the answer that was offered by Katherine wasn’t exactly something that she’s looking for. Of course, she’s still a supernatural being, but she’s been nothing but skeptical about what does she mean with the ‘special abilities’. Then, an idea appears in her mind.

“--Do you think it’s possible for me to tag along with you?”

“ah, i dunno.” she admitted with a shrug. “i do figure we can make a list and figure some things out from there though.” gemma smiles to her friend. “like we’re going one thing now. a beautiful recreation of one of our childhood meals.” she stirs her bowl, watching the steam come off of it. “maybe we can watch some of our favorite shows, or make pillow forts.”

“--I remember we rummaged my brother’s room and steal his pillows just so we can make a comfier and bigger fort.”

A hearty laugh slipped from her lips, before she starts to dig into her food and have her first bite. It’s just a pure bliss, to be able to reminisce their past by something as simple as their childhood meal.

“--You know, maybe later when we went out shopping for our food supplies, we can stop by on a thrift store nearby, to see whether there’s a board game or anything that reminds us with the old times..”

katherine kept her eyes on lyra as she spoke scanning over her reactions and whatever type of emotion she would show. not that she was keeping on eye on her just in case, but more to see any reaction to what she may or may not say. katherine laughed slightly and nodded in agreement to her statement. “i’m not going to lie…i gotta agree with you on that one. super or not we all have those weird or not…habits? if that is even the right word to use. i’m was doing one that you listed just moments ago.” katherine shrugged up her shoulders slightly. “most would probably think you are either brave, crazy or both for swimming in such cold temperatures.” meeting her eyes again as lyra turned her head to her katherine squinted her eyes slightly to what she was telling her. being a hunter she wasn’t really meant to go out telling to whole town about what the files on the supers contained. katherine wasn’t one to play by the rules so maybe she could find a way to tell her something without actually telling her. maybe try and get lyra to figure it out herself. “well, what do you think it is? you must know yourself better than others.”

She wasn’t expecting that coming from a hunter -- then again, it wasn’t her place to say that, since it’s never part of her habit to socialize with one. But, from what she could take from her, Katherine sounds like an open minded person.

“--Well, then. I certainly can play with what I had in my plate. Let’s just say that I’m feeling crazy and dared myself to swim in a freezing cold water. Will they believe me, then?”

It was hard to blurt such a thing with a straight face, as it was followed with a chuckle coming from her end. Human is an interesting creature. Up to this day, Lyra is still having a hard time to figure out about their thoughts and at the same time fascinates over their lack of knowledge about her legacy. It’s almost feels impossible for them to live side by side, but that seems to work here in Asteria.

“--Um.. I’m not sure. Am I like.. sick or something?”

She wasn’t entirely convinced with the idea, but with all the medical procedures her parents made her to get through, it seems like a valid reason.

He blushes because it’s such a nice thing to hear from someone he had just met. He doubted he’d be famous, but he confident that he could achieve the dream. And sadly she was right, Asteria didn’t seem like a place that he could grow. He wanted a reason to stay, maybe someone to give him one, but the chances of that happening were slim. “You’re too nice. But, I have to agree. I have no doubt that I could have a successful life here, but it would make more sense to be employed somewhere with more programs, and room for advancement and potential.”

Jin smiles softly, reassuringly, “No, no it’s fine. It’s…hard to mourn for someone I didn’t know? And I feel like she wouldn’t want me too. Other people have had it much worse than I. At least I had Viola growing up.” He smiles fondly. Did he sometimes wish for his birth mother? Sure, it was a part of him he didn’t dwell too much on, a type of yearning he didn’t feel was his to have. He still had a good life with his father, and Viola. She was a mom to him. Besides, he didn’t regret his current life at all. Who new where he would be if he was with his mother. he might have never met his father, or Viola. He would probably be in Korea. 

He nodded along with her words, “interesting…do you have family from here? What do you feel like you can learn about yourself from here?” it was curious–why did she think that? perhaps she was like him–a connection to this place, one she didn’t even know about. 

“--I just knew that you have a bright future ahead of you. Just, don’t stop chasing for your dreams, ‘kay?”

A lopsidedgrin appears on her lips, before she finally breaks into a soft laugh. Back when she was at his age, she was hoping for someone’s presence, who will encourage her to take a step further. There are so much to achieve in life and she simply doesn’t have the courage and guts to pursue a better life. If only she moved away from her house a couple or more years earlier, perhaps it will be an entirely different story. Maybe she won’t find herself in Asteria, something that she can’t seem to imagine just yet. She eyed the photo which is currently sprawled on his side of the table, before she reached for it.

“--Will you tell me more about Viola, then? What did she like?”

She can only imagine how deep the bond they shared, until Jin was more than willing to come here, just to find her. She traced her fingers against the picture, taking in any details that hopefully will lead them somewhere.

“--Oh, I don’t and this is the first time I’m away from home -- which double the thrills. I guess, it’s refreshing to see how would you react, when you’re far away from your comfort zone. For the record, I didn’t think I would survive this far..”
