Not to be *that* guy but omg, went to a punk show last night after accidentally falling in my kitchen prior to and it just took me a literal painful hour to get out of bed at the hotel. Granted, I have a connective tissue disorder, but costochondritis is NO JOKE. I don't know how Henry did all of that. (Am literally getting irl kolaches in a bit though!!!)

its actually easy to de-enshittify your digital experience all you need to do is install this browser extension and this browser extension and this browser extension and input this custom script into the advanced box and go into your system settings and reconfigure all these options you didnt know existed and change your entire workflow and switch to this alternative operating system and this alternative web browser and this alternative chat client and this alternative word processor and this alternative- sorry that one turned out to be malware delete that one okay now double check your task manager for unwanted background processes and element block these ads and invest in a good VPN and append all your searches with AI blocking keywords and wait a few years until everything you just did becomes shitty too so you can do it all over again okay kitten. its literally that easy.
Some photographic record of my husband and I's KCD-inspired campsite from Bonnaroo 2026, for those who may be interested! I rarely share personal things here anymore, but I was proud of how it all came together. Our neighbors ended up being fans of the game and into medieval LARP/reenactment and were compelled to make friends because of our totem, so it was truly a wonderful time.
Also, my true condolences to everyone from 1403 who lived what we term "rough" 24/7, this is my 7th Roo but sustained primitive camping teaches you a lot about yourself. In a way, I think I actually practice better self care under those circumstances. I have about 7 diagnoses that impede my physical limitations but showering in the rain is definitely liberating. I actually think I care for myself better when I'm limited by the circumstances, but also I have ADHD, so I was meant to listen for sounds in the woods biologically anyway.
Making peace with Procreate
Boomers really love to tell me I'm an "old soul" or "Bohemian" when we meet but really I'm just gay, lol
"In these times, in the manner of monkeys, which try to do or imitate whatever they see humans doing, people took on the depraved and damnable custom of other lands, and in their manner of dress gave up the way of their ancestors, making for themselves garments short and cropped (more truly, shameful), so that all of the thigh and even the buttock could be seen, and so tight that they were hardly able to draw breath. Around the chest, they had a great thickness of padding, so that they seemed to have the breasts of women. Around the waist they were so constricted that they looked like the hunting dogs which are called greyhounds. Around the backside they bound themselves up with so many ties that they could hardly move [even] at a slow pace. They also wore little hoodlets, four of which were made from one ell of cloth, with broad borders or large letters around the neck like country dogs, which are protected from the bites of wolves by this precaution. In the same way they wore beaked shoes with very long noses, so they could barely step or walk. . . . And so it happened, in the month just past of this year, that certain noblemen of the kingdom of Bohemia, having gathered some of their people, hastened to Saxony against the lord of Wedrow, and at the moment of battle, both armies dismounted their horses and began to fight on foot in the custom of their countries. And because of the tight clothes and beaked shoes, the Bohemians were defeated by their enemies and cruelly slaughtered. Let them reckon with themselves who hasten to battle and do not leave their tight and constricting clothes at home."
From the Cronica ecclesiae pragensis of Benesch of Weitmuhl for the year 1367. Latin here (ctrl+f "Hiis temporibus more symearum"); translation errors entirely mine. I was just here for the slightly red-faced puffing about young men wearing tight clothes, but I thought the moral lesson was funny too.

the memoir of a ghost
Started watching The Boys and forever thinking about how one time at my former job I was texting a co-worker about how her wife's comfort show was Supernatural and accidentally announced to the wrong chat that my husband thought Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy was the most attractive a man has ever been (it was the staff group chat 💀)
because sometimes there are invisible tests and invisible rules and you're just supposed to ... know the rule. someone you thought of as a friend asks you for book recommendations, so you give her a list of like 30 books, each with a brief blurb and why you like it. later, you find out she screenshotted the list and send it out to a group chat with the note: what an absolute freak can you believe this. you saw the responses: emojis where people are rolling over laughing. too much and obsessive and actually kind of creepy in the comments. you thought you'd been doing the right thing. she'd asked, right? an invisible rule: this is what happens when you get too excited.
you aren't supposed to laugh at your own jokes, so you don't, but then you're too serious. you're not supposed to be too loud, but then people say you're too quiet. you aren't supposed to get passionate about things, but then you're shy, boring. you aren't supposed to talk too much, but then people are mad when you're not good at replying.
you fold yourself into a prettier paper crane. since you never know what is "selfish" and what is "charity," you give yourself over, fully. you'd rather be empty and over-generous - you'd rather eat your own boundaries than have even one person believe that you're mean. since you don't know what the thing is that will make them hate you, you simply scrub yourself clean of any form of roughness. if you are perfect and smiling and funny, they can love you. if you are always there for them and never admit what's happening and never mention your past and never make them uncomfortable - you can make up for it. you can earn it.
don't fuck up. they're all testing you, always. they're tolerating you. whatever secret club happened, over a summer somewhere - during some activity you didn't get to attend - everyone else just... figured it out. like they got some kind of award or examination that allowed them to know how-to-be-normal. how to fit. and for the rest of your life, you've been playing catch-up. you've been trying to prove that - haha! you get it! that the joke they're telling, the people they are, the manual they got- yeah, you've totally read it.
if you can just divide yourself in two - the lovable one, and the one that is you - you can do this. you can walk the line. they can laugh and accept you. if you are always-balanced, never burdensome, a delight to have in class, champagne and glittering and never gawky or florescent or god-forbid cringe: you can get away with it.
you stare at your therapist, whom you can make jokes with, and who laughs at your jokes, because you are so fucking good at people-pleasing. you smile at her, and she asks you how you're doing, and you automatically say i'm good, thanks, how are you? while the answer swims somewhere in your little lizard brain:
how long have you been doing this now? mastering the art of your body and mind like you're piloting a puppet. has it worked? what do you mean that all you feel is... just exhausted. pick yourself up, the tightrope has no net. after all, you're cheating, somehow, but nobody seems to know you actually flunked the test. it's working!
aren't you happy yet?
.... and people ask us why masking is so difficult.
