“And the Children Shall Lead” is an interesting ep for so many reasons but of course the one that struck me the most was what the children showed kirk that would scare him the most.

At first he says what you would expect from the captain. “i’ve lost command, i’ve lost the enterprise” but then, when he gets into the turbo lift he tells spock “i’m all alone. alone. alone. alone” giving textual evidence to my theory that kirk has abandonment issues lol

and the part that REALLY made me screech: the fact that when spock is trying to calm kirk, to bring him back to reality, not only are they hanging on to each other for dear life, but spock originally tries calling out to him saying “captain” several times. When that doesn’t work he finally says softly, tenderly: “Jim”

This almost instantly brings Jim down and he looks into Spock’s eyes. His hands slowly drift off his friends shoulders. it KILLS me how tender spock is with jim, but also tries to respect him as much as he possibly can i’m just softe ok!!
