She was called Phillis, because that was the name of the ship that brought her, and Wheatley, which was the name of the merchant who bought her. She was born in Senegal.

In Boston, the slave traders put her up for sale: “She's 7 years old! She will be a good mare!”

At thirteen, she was already writing poems in a language that was not her own. No one believed that she was the author. At the age of twenty, Phillis was questioned by a court of eighteen enlightened men in robes and wigs.

She had to recite passages from Virgil and Milton and some verses from the Bible, and she also had to vow that the poems she had composed were not copied. From a chair, she underwent her lengthy examination, until the court approved her: she was a woman, she was Black, she was enslaved, but she was a poet.

Phillis Wheatley was the first African-American writer to publish a book in the United States.

Also, can we just really take in the true excellence and impact of Michonne’s character.

She’s a black woman whose story isn’t defined by the hardship of being a black woman.

She’s given incredible emotional range. She’s absolutely badass and strong, but not stoic and stiff. She’s allowed to be as compassionate and nurturing as she is fierce. She expresses grief, loss, anger, pettiness and annoyance; she also expresses hope, love, devotion, loyalty, and bravery. She’s tough and hardcore, but also soft and feminine.

She’s not the sassy best friend. She’s not the magical negro. She’s not the stepping stone for the male MC to decide he doesn’t want. She’s not forgettable or disposable. She can challenge white characters (including the main man) without the writing trying to humble or punish her.

She’s pivotal (the ratings and fan engagement prove that). She’s desirable. She isn’t chasing after a man who barely considers her to own detriment. Her love interest loves her unconditionally. He respects her and wants her in EVERY way. He dreams of her. He can’t truly live without her.

THIS is an immaculate character, brought to life by an incredible actress who is valued in production, and backed by the narrative. THIS is what characters such as Bonnie Bennett and Abbie Mills (amongst others) deserved. THIS is what we want to see.

🚨🚨 In the space of 2 weeks we’ve gone from a pilot project that involved my cousin making and distributing one pot of fortified stew a day to a fully fledged soup kitchen with 10 volunteers that feeds 160 families a day or roughly 800 hungry people daily, in Omdurman #Sudan

To do this we’ve cut out all possible overhead costs to ensure we can feed as many people as possible

In case anything happens

I usually don’t discuss private matters on social media. But something’s have been done that make me worried for my safety and the safety of my family. I am writing this so that if anything happens to me, physically or psychologically, people are aware of who the perpetrators are.

Earlier this year while living in a building managed by Red Shield Management in Elizabeth, NJ I was filmed showering by the employees from the instructions of Ramon who works at a high position in the company I presume. I wrote countless emails to the company in January of this year when I informed them that I would not be renewing the lease. 

During that time my phone and laptop were hacked. I found a new apartment in Orange, NJ managed by Benjamin H Realty, everything was done electronically so the person or people who had access to my hacked phone knew exactly where I would be moving. I was very happy to have a fresh start but after moving I began to suspect the same things were happening.

I spoke to my manager at work who recommended calling the police to come. She informed me that if I called and said there were hidden cameras in my apartment they would come with a device to scan the walls for cameras. That was not what happened after I called them. 

Instead two officers came, a middle aged one and a younger office. I showed the older officer a device I purchased from Amazon that detected hidden cameras, he used the device on a wall in the living room and on his body came it buzzed both times. So he was aware that it did work. The same officer told me that in order for a police report to be made I would have to get a psych evaluation. I was driven to the hospital on the back of an ambulance. I was at the behavioral health unit from Tuesday evening to Sunday afternoon, when I was a released. I had a CAT scan, blood and using test done nothing was wrong with those results. They diagnosed me with delusion disorder since they did not believe anything I said and the results didn’t show an issue.

I went to get a psych evaluation on Tuesday, and the psychiatrist informed me that there was nothing wrong with me. I was diagnosed previously due to no one believing anything I said. 

I don’t have any mental issues. Everything I am saying happened to me is sadly the truth. If anything happens to me please look into Ramon and Nala, the woman who spread a big lie about me saying I did something when I just walked into the parking lot and looked at me (apparently she found me simply looking at her scary. She was taller and bigger than me at time. I am black and she is not. I assume race placed a major role in her spreading that lie and ‘feeling’ scared of me for simply looking at her). Nala is related or close to the people who live downstairs in the apartment complex my fathers lives at. 

I am worried that they have made plans to harm me and I want it known if anything happens to look into apartment 6P in Orange, NJ and check the cameras around March 12 in the evening.
