Hey, you know that one story? The one with a cute blond protagonist? She has a traumatic backstory and a mystery associated with her identity?
And she goes on an adventure with a criminal with a heart of gold and questionable facial hair?
And also a cop?

Me @ the 100:
👌👍
Bellamy? Clarke knew you would come. She’s in trouble. We have to go.
when clarke’s motherhood was beautiful! and BELLARKE story was following the narrative.
Do you think after all these negative reviews the 100 could come back with a season 8 to « fix things »? (I still can’t believe that this was their final message and meaning for the series)
I don’t think there will be a season 8. The show is over. JR fucked it up.
This is one of the dangers of hollywood, and even though I believed JR wouldn’t sell out and I trusted him to follow his own story, he did indeed sell out and scrapped his story for a different one.
I don’t know why, but it doesn’t matter. This was the result.
Shit like this happens all the time with tv. And movies where there’s a series. It just does. Because filmmaking is a collaborative art and one person doesn’t get the say. Even if there’s a showrunner, there are still people above them. Money people. Political people. Studio heads. Producers. whoever.
Even thought JR put many years into this show, I don’t think he was as attached to the show as the fans were. He didn’t need to honor it and bring it to a good ending, for some reason, he just wanted it over, and it seemed like he was pissed off at a few people and took it out on the characters. (namely bob and bellarke fans.) But I don’t know. I’m just speculating.
But no. I dont’ think he’s going to fix things. This was the final message, and I find it VERY suspect. Partly because it’s the opposite of the message for the first 6 season and partly because it’s the EXACT same message as the real life conservative fascist cultists. That’s just too damn coincidental for me.
@sometimesrosy, I do somewhat wonder if JR started to relate to and ‘see himself’ in Murphy more and more as the story went on. And while there wasn’t a shift in main characters, per se, there definitely seemed to be a shift in favored characters in the later seasons, and the Murphy/Memori story was always on an upward trend.
That change in perspective, combined with the speculated Behind The Scenes drama and the ramped up focus on shipping within the fandom eclipsing the other storytelling aspects each year (esp. with regards to B/C/L & B/C/E) and subsequent rabid Twitter fandom–I think–explains a lot of what happened in Season 7.
Clarke–the main character–got a storyline that was very much what would have been given to a supporting character in the early seasons.
Bellamy got a storyline that would have (in previous seasons) been given to a reoccurring character–the supporting character TO the above supporting character.
(Think Season 2 Harper/Monty or Jasper/Maya for Bellamy/Clarke in S7)
While Murphy got a storyline that was more of what Clarke would have gotten if it had been an early season.
And the characters surrounding him (Emori mostly, but even Sheidheda to an extent) were the ‘main cast’ that surrounded the ‘main character’.
And while I do kinda get those same vibes in regards to real life political comparisons, it confuses me a bit. Looking at JR’s twitter (which has been almost completely inactive in regards to the show), he seems to politically lean more liberal (or at the very least is very anti-Trump regardless of party). Not to say that speaks for him completely, or the writer’s room as a whole, but it does add to the confusion.
It’s like, it all seemed like such a ‘fuck you’ to so much of the fandom, which seems so counterintuitive given that JR’s hoping for the prequel to be greenlit, and that’s why I’m convinced that it wasn’t DELIBERATELY INTENTIONAL. Like, obviously, he meant to do it–he wrote it–but I think his perspective was so warped (regarding the character’s storyline priorities), that I don’t think it occurred to him at all how OFF it would seem to the majority of the audience (who viewed Clarke and Bellamy as the main characters). Knowingly ending the series in a way that alienates so much of the fanbase when you’re also trying to hype them up for a spin-off prequel series just doesn’t track.
I see what you’re saying, and I get that interpretation… it makes sense, but I have three points that don’t follow with it.
1. I heard (not sure, but it was a BTS rumor,) that RICHARD was the one who guided Murphy’s ending. That wasn’t his ending but Richard suggested it… which means that is why Murphy’s ending fits with the narrative of his six season story. And no one else’s did.
2. JR is JEWISH. In season 2, he compared Mount Weather to the Nazis. Which totally makes sense. But in season 7, he said he wanted US to put ourselves in the shoes of the people of MW, and how Clarke destroyed them for her people, and that was why he had her kill Bellamy. He wanted US to feel the way MW did. So he put US, the audience, in the empathetic role of understanding what it was like to be nazis and how HORRIBLE it was to be exterminated by nazi killers or antifa. Like. He ABOUT FACED. He made the nazis the sympathetic center of the entire narrative. And that just doesn’t make any fucking sense. HE’S JEWISH.
3. The BTS gossip said that JR had given up on The 100 and didn’t care anymore because all he wanted was his new show and all his attention and budget went to Anaconda. And that is rather evident in the story. He just blew off the narrative and didn’t care about the stories of his main characters. I’m actually going to argue that while Clarke’s role was more like a supporting character from earlier, so was Murphy’s. Murphy had NOTHING to do with the main plot line or the outcome of the story. The ONLY character who had an active role in how the story turned out was Cadogan. JR made the VILLAIN, the cult leader who sacrificed his family and the entire earth for his goals, into the protagonist. HE was right. HE was “saving” humanity. HE was “reasonable.”
So those points make me think that JR didn’t switch because he “forgot” the story or the characters or even because he wanted revenge of fandom (although that might add to how the story ended.) No, my theory is that someone forced or bribed him to make the main characters– who are basically antifa, they’ve been fighting fascist tyrants all this time– into the villains who don’t deserve heaven, and the villain of history, Cadogan, into the hero. My theory is that SOMEONE outside of the show wanted to force the narrative that antifa are the bad guys and don’t deserve to win, and the rebellion leads to death and tragedy, and that rebels are not the good guys, but paternalistic fascist tyrants are the ones who know what’s best for humaniity. It is literally what the Trump movement is trying to force onto us. And I’m freaking saying they forced JR to do it. I don’t know if they said they’d blacklist him if he didn’t or they have some dirt on him or whatever.
Bribed with his new show maybe. Forced and given the new show as payment? IDK, but that’s why I say he sold out. And then once that happened, he didn’t give a fuck anymore. He gave up on the story because he couldn’t do what he wanted so… whatever. A good ending didn’t matter. Taking the MCs home didn’t matter. And while he was at it, he said “screw you bellarke fandom, you assholes.” that’s my theory.
When you're writing and you suddenly realize you don't know what happens next
When you’re writing and you suddenly realise you DO know what happens next
When you’re writing and you realise you have to write what happens next
My god that last one though
I have personally experienced every one of these feelings 😂

Day 4: Favourite Group/Location: Clarke’s mindspace
When they actually referred Clarke as the wonderfull lead of the show (she truly was)..😊❤
You consistently and frankly being honest about season 7 being so wildly off-the-rails that it is a whole new story and doesn’t fit with the previous 6 season is honestly helping me move on enjoy Bellarke again. After that scene where Clarke shoots Bellamy, I was too disturbed by it to be able to fully enjoy their previous scenes without flashbacks of that shot to the chest and him falling. It was just so brutal for no reason. I’m fully coming to divorce s7 from the previous seasons. Closure!
Well I’m glad I could help.
I honestly kept hoping that they could pull it back together, that they wanted to focus on the secondary characters to tell their stories, which I thought was respectful of the story, although not traditional storytelling to take that break form the main characters… but then they just never got back to Clarke and Bellamy.
Period. Even when Clarke was back as a focus she didn’t drive the story. Her actions had no affect on anything. She was no longer the protagonist of the story. And ok I could have dealt with that… if they hadn’t come up with the concept that NOTHING that she’d done for the last seven years was her being the hero, and she was, in fact, undeserving of forgiveness or redemption. After all that damn work and suffering. She was THE ONLY ONE who didn’t deserve redemption or salvation.
And then BELLAMY was just completely irrelevant and erased. They gave him a stupid shallow indoctrination with no nuance, as if his past had not happened, as if his intelligence and his goals and his FAMILY were not important. And he meant nothing to any of the people he’d saved or loved or cared for. He was just shrugged away.
SO essentially, Clarke was the bad guy and Bellamy was a nobody.
AND THIS WAS NOT THE STORY WE WERE WATCHING.
They didn’t just erase Bellarke. They erased Clarke AND Bellamy.
Not changed the story. Pretended it didn’t exist. They did not wrap up the story they were telling or transform the characters into the new thing or take us down the new path, they simply dropped the Clarke, Bellamy and Bellarke story and said, “no that was never the story we were telling. see, Clarke is like the nazis, and you should FEEL how terrible it was when she killed MW, so we’ll have her kill Bellamy. Because that’s evidence that she’s not worthy. And neither are you btw. Stop resisting and be good kids and maybe the purple sparkly aliens will wipe you out and take you into their group consciousness where you will NEVER REBEL AGAIN. Oh yeah, because cadogan was right. Oops. Bye humanity, you suck.”
hi rosie! I know it's been months since the 100 ended and I've seen lots of people talk about how they failed bellamy and clarke but I was wondering what you thought of raven and her storyline in s7. do you think it was good for her character and her story arc?
Ahh. Raven’s arc.
Yeah, so the problem with Raven’s arc is JR hasn’t known what to do with her since season 5. Season 4 was the last season with a good character arc for her, and even that one had a major character glitch as he tried to take her from the pragmatist who would blow up a bridge or dam or tell Clarke to kill Lxa while surrounded by her armies, to a person who said “it’s not your blood that matters, it’s your heart.” Which was one of the worst lines in this whole show. It’s not even funny like “we’re back bitches!” It’s just corny and soppy and dumb. Her character shift on science island always felt false to me. It should have been Bellamy who held Clarke in check with morality, since that had been HIS character arc. I thought it was a misstep then, and now knowing the entire narrative arc, I think it was where they started to go wrong with Raven. Until then she was my third favorite character after Clarke and Bellamy.
I ALWAYS had a problem with this, but I was giving them the benefit of the doubt that they could pull it out. Season 5 was the least bad for her, with her sacrifice for spacekru on the ship, but honestly I didn’t think they went far enough with that. I feel like they should have explored her feelings of guilt more at not being able to get her friends home, or leaving Clarke behind alone. And there was great potential in the scene where she and Clarke took McCreary down using her own body as the weapon (especially for a character whose body was always in pain and whose body had failed her… idk that’s quite some symbolism there,) but instead they chose to retreat and turn her back into the judgmental shrew that told Bellamy he shouldn’t have saved the slaves, and told Clarke she was the one who said whether everyone lived or died.
So like. She never addressed with Clarke what happened with Finn at his death. The blame she put on Clarke, when SHE wanted to instigate a war that would have had them all exterminated, including Finn. For some reason, the genius couldn’t connect those dots that her plan would have caused all of her people to massacred? I mean, it’s normal for her to have that failure in such a time of high emotion, but six years later, she still thinks Clarke was wrong to do what she did? No. Plot hole. Forgetting all the times that she enabled Clarke’s plans, or eagerly set about torturing and killing (remember SHE’S the one who electrified Lincoln without a BIT of the remorse that Clarke and Bellamy had,) is a failure of character.
Also, she never addressed the FACT that she wanted to trade Murphy to the grounders for Finn’s life and have him tortured to death in place of her boyfriend who was a literal mass murderer, AND she blamed Murphy for Finn’s actions when Murphy was the one trying to stop him the whole time. And THIS is a plot hole for a character arc and narrative line that was about Raven having learning about forgiveness and morality and leadership and sacrifice and hard decisions, and making judgments on Murphy, who frankly has been one of the most moral characters of the show since season 2. His morality might not be the SAME as everyone else’s, but it was the most firm. So, this narrative arc again did not go FAR enough.
In season 5, I figured that they would make up for the s5 scanty Raven storyline with a stronger s6 one.. That didn’t happen. I thought maybe it was because her love interest left, so she took on his judgmental role, but it didn’t work well. I also thought that part of the problem was that it would make her into too big of a character and they needed to keep the focus on the main characters, Clarke and Bellamy. But from s5-7 MURPHY got a large role, too, that brought a thorough narrative arc and finished out his character journey. So he got the focus that they never managed for Raven. I hear tell that Richard helped Murphy’s story in season 7, so that might be why. But idk. It shows that they were capable of finishing a character story with attention and detail, but they just failed with Raven.
So season 7 had Raven confronting her own leadership and putting her in Clarke’s place to face the judgment she put on Clarke. And…oh she was sad and felt guilt and had to face the repercussions of that. But… it didn’t go far enough. She was reunited with Clarke and was no longer angry at her, and they were a team again. But this wasn’t HER story arc. Her story arc just kind of went *sad trombone.*
I know she was the one who went into the anomaly and met with the sparkle aliens, but that just seemed so forced and fake. Yes, they built up the morality narrative, but… like. It should have been Clarke. Instead they turned her into the crazy vengeance lady, like Daenerys, even though her entire narrative was about her dealing with her pain and she kind of never killed anyone in vengeance? I mean she spent 6 years ALONE and she only wanted to kill herself? IDK. It doesn’t make sense that THIS was the end. She sent madi into battle too save Bellamy and that did make her crazy lady. She had her after death reckoning and we saw no crazy lady.
Sorry, that went off into failure of Clarke’s story.
How did that affect Raven? I think that from about season 3, Raven was used as a substitute to fill in gaps where they lost characters, or moved characters around. Where they changed their narrative ideas, and they needed a narrative tool to do something, they would stick Raven in… because she was a strong character who was involved with all the other main characters (except maybe Octavia.) She became like a swiss army knife who would take the place of characters that were needed but didn’t fit. And that meant that HER character was not really consistent in the later half of the series. And it feels WRONG. Someone’s judgy? Make it Raven. Someone’s empathetic? Make it Raven. Someone’s mean? Make it Raven. Someone’s righteous? Make it Raven. Someone’s a sister? Make it Raven. Someone’s a daughter? Make it Raven. Some main character needs a supporting character to prop them up? Make it Raven. They just moved her around to fit the other character’s stories. Even her big morality arc was to support Abby, Clarke, or Murphy. :/ THAT’S why it didn’t work when they made her the Clarke proxy in the transcendence narrative. Because she hadn’t actually worked through HER story, but through Abby’s Clarke’s and Murphy’s. Bleh.
And she also basically disappeared in a lot of season 7, too. Same as Octavia. Who had her story with Sky Ring and skyringkru, but then disappeared until she gave the inspiring peace speech with the goddamn petty, dumbass stupid grounders, whose main flaw FROM SEASON 1, is that they are too stupid to have survived this long. All they want to do is fight. And blame everyone else for what they did. And the eligius prisoners, and the brainless cult sheep. Honestly.
And what do we have? The most unnuanced, flat character in the show. Sheidheda. Like there isn’t even any symbolism or archetypal energy in there. He’s just there to make them fight for NO FUCKING REASON.
These are the characters who had decent story arcs that were resolved.
Murphy and EmoriDiyozaGabrielAnd Indra a bit. Better than most.
Fucking DEV had a better character ending than Clarke, Bellamy, Raven, and Octavia.
Actually, Mackson was satisfying, although skimpy. But then the characters didn’t have a really deep narrative line, so their ending was in keeping with their story. But it fit with their long term stated goals, what they wanted out of life. Just to be together in peace with maybe some chickens, by the shore, right? That was THEIR goal. The ending was theirs.
That was never what any of the other characters wanted. Or not ONLY. Do the right thing. Live a good life. Create a better society. Save humanity. Be good people. Live morally.
nope. But it worked for Murphy’s ending too. He didn’t want to die alone. He died, with Emori. Then he came back and got to life his half life with his friends.
I just can’t get over how they tossed the main story of being the good guys and saving humanity. I suppose there was always the question of whether they’d get a happy ending emotionally, but I never thought they’d destroy humanity, erase Bellamy and say Clarke was never the hero.
I guess I needed to address the endings of the other characters to see how they all fit in with Raven’s. Because none of the characters stood on their own, so we have to see how they were woven together and compare and contrast.
Raven was my biggest disappointment as a character in this show from season 5 on. I kept waiting for her character arc to come together or get the attention Murphy got. She had the weight to be major character, but her story just wasn’t told. She became a supporting character and really lacked meaningful development.
Hey Rosy, so I haven't finished the last season of the 100 yet, I stopped about half way through when I heard about the Bellamy atrocities. I just don't know how I can bring myself to watch that, to finish the series, when it feels like they spat in the face of everything they've written, everything the was cannon, the entire story they had built. So I'm now in the place where maybe if I ignore I can pretend it didn't happen that way. What can you suggest to help me get through watching it? Xx
Oh, not sure I can suggest watching it. Once you get through the episodes of Sky Ring to see Hope and Octavia and Diyoza, and see princess mechanic getting back together, and see emori and murphy and indra taking charge in sanctum. and see Diyoza’s sacrifice and Anaconda with the backstory of the first apocalypse. I think it’s pretty much done.
Just understand that this show does NOT have an ending. They failed to wrap up the main storylines and went off book to make it about something else that is rather offensive to me, the concept that it doesn’t matter how hard you try to do better or stop tyranny, you will fail in the end because fighting the power makes you a villain. It’s the same thing they did in GOT.
And in times like today, when people irl are fighting the power to stop tyranny and create a better world, that makes it no better than the propaganda of oppression.
Season 7b is such an about face from the rest of the series, it makes me suspicious. It becomes a different story. Season 7 is no longer about the hero of the show, it’s no longer about Clarke, nor is it about the secondary protagonist Bellamy, it’s no longer about the head and the heart. It’s no longer about doing better or making sure humanity deserves to survive or rising from the ashes. And they used the wanted us to look at Clarke’s murder of Bellamy from the point of view of the inhabitants of Mount Weather, remember them? The vampires keeping grounders in cages and experimenting on them to turn them into cannibalistic weapons against their people? Yes, so they wanted us to see it from the nazi’s pov and how Clarke was the villain of the story for stopping them from consuming the delinquents. See? Her killing OUR fave Bellamy was equivalent to her killing Dante. See? In season 7, they made the ultimate villains of season 2 into US, and they made the HERO of the show, who has been fighting to do better even when she failed or made the wrong choices sometimes, INTO THE ONE PERSON NOT WORTHY OF REDEMPTION.
no seriously. fuck that.
skip. this isn’t about shipping. he could have pulled the shipping out at any minute, though he chose not to. it’s about the philosophical under pinings of the story and how it seems to now support the tyrants as the good guys.
and the deus ex machina of magical all knowing aliens bringing about the rapture and the end of humanity is a dumb ending made worse by the narrative explanation THAT THIS IS A HAPPY ENDING.
fuck.
that.
it was the worst of all possible endings and it tainted the show. so skip it.
I have seen many people use Jason’s malicious mishandling of Bellarke in S7 to assert he baited us all along. Truthfully, I am hesitant to agree with this evaluation, repentant as I am to throw my weight in defense of that man in any capacity, for as little as it means to fandom at large.
For six years, he made them vitally central to the story. In a story that grew increasingly more symbolic of an epic, he made their dynamic thematically essential as nomon & nontu, the mother and father of this new age of humanity. He made them transcendent without the need for nonsensical, retconning sci-fi. He made the story dependent upon the success of their partnership. He gave them depth. He gave them nuance. He gave them structure. He inched them closer together in planned, measured increments. He suffused within their development, widely-recognizable romantic tropes and countless parallels to established couples. They grew. They fell. They broke. They rebuilt. He made them strong. He gave them evolution.
This was the norm for every season, without fail, consistent for six years.
That is a lot of effort and screentime to expend on alleged carrot-dangling meant for only one subset of shippers. If his ambition was the same with the CLs utilizing the same method, he put in considerably, ludicrously, less work to keep them on the hook than he did for our viewership. They had posthumous, blink-and-you’ll-miss-them namedrops and likenesses. Before S7, we were bestowed with the dignity of a cardinal love story constructed with care.
The stance I am more comfortable in accepting is that, somewhere in S7′s production, he simply changed his mind. I didn’t see enough incriminating evidence to conclude he had no intent in providing Bellarke with a fulfilling ending to their romance. I still believe, for the first six years, there were plenty of fans mistaking slowburn for “never gonna happen.” Just because Jason reneged on them at the eleventh hour doesn’t mean we lacked prior sufficient cause to have faith in Bellarke.
i was studying today, and the line “a failed story is one which leaves the audience wondering why anyone bothered to tell it in the first place,” jumped out at me.
tell me this isn’t the 100 i’m– this is exactly the issue with the entirety of season 7. it erased the whole point of the show.
I hate JRoth as much as anyone, but the idea that he just got so mad that he was like “THAT’S IT I’m taking romantic blarke oUT of the scripts. Make Clarke call Bellamy her best friend a few times and they’ll forget all about it!” and the other writers were like “Okay but what about all that chemistry bob and Eliza have? You can’t just make that disappear?” “Get rid of all their scenes this season!! There will only be two of them, and in one she is killing him! Problem solved!” “Okay but I don’t know if the audience is just going to forget about 6 whole seasons of romantic direction we literally wrote” “Clarke already has a soulmate!! The one we haven’t seen in literally 3 years. And she’s super dead still, but comes back as an alien for a hot sec. It’s called distraction people. I know what I’m doing. Watch the ratings be great!!” ................... kind of funny.
😂😂😂
saw this and i just loved it because i think this one meme get’s the point about transcendence across perfectly.
season 3 was about why the city of light was a bad thing, it put a solid message forward about that you don’t erase pain you over come it. which is something i personally believe, perfection is unknowable and it should be that way because it’s not about the destination it’s about the journey. season 3 was not the best season of the show but that was part of the season i really liked and i for one thought made for good tv.
also that general sentiment continued to be a part of the show Kane saying “do better today than you did yesterday” would be a great example of that so Transcendence is out of left Field and there’s no way around that fact. Transcendence is little different from that what they all thought again in season 3 so why do they all except it now, it doesn’t really make a sense when you think about it so the ending of the 100 was just bad.
