I've been rewatching Red Dwarf and I forgot how absolutely unhinged Rimmer's childhood is:

Spent every morning a literal medieval rack because his dad wanted him to be tall

Nearly died of malnutrition because his parents wouldn't feed him until he got test questions right

He grew up literally incapable of imaging his father was proud of him (although that might not actually be his dad anyway)

Spent every Sunday hopping because his religious parents had a bible with a typo in it

Legally emancipated at 14

Could have been rich thanks to an idea sent to him by his future self, but missed the opportunity because he was forced to play rugby

Almost held back a year

First French kiss was with his uncle who thought he was kissing his mum

Roman is Ready to Go!

After being assembled, our Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope has passed final tests, and is being prepared to move to our Kennedy Space Center in Florida, where teams will work to prepare it for a launch in early September 2026.

With a field of view at least 100 times larger than Hubble's, Roman can potentially measure light from a billion galaxies in its lifetime. It will also be able to block starlight to directly see exoplanets and planet-forming disks, complete a statistical census of planetary systems in our galaxy, and settle essential questions in the areas of dark energy, exoplanets, and infrared astrophysics.

The observatory is named after Dr. Nancy Grace Roman, NASA’s first chief astronomer who made cosmic vistas readily accessible to all by paving the way for telescopes based in space.

I lovvveee the intro to series 1 & 2. Really emphasises the loneliness of Red Dwarf. God I just love series 1 & 2 so much in general. Red Dwarf could've been just that and I'd still be in love with the show

Ford Prefect knowing that everyone he's met for the past fifteen years is going to die shortly and being completely unable to prevent it? Mr "I'll think of something" having to accept that there is nothing he can think of, and having to choose who to save between everyone he knows. Mr "when you have to leave a friend behind you don't talk about them and get super drunk about it later instead" having to leave all of his friends behind.

It must've been an awful choice and every outcome must've felt like shit, but the thought of Arthur dying was THE most unrivalled feeling of shit. And it's the snarky lumbering man who's been "saving himself up" for the right person and thought London was too chaotic and Ford was like yeah I absolutely need him with me
