WHAT WHAT WHAT
HI????
I'M IN LOVE WITH YOUR AU, I NEVER WOULD'VE EXPECTED THIS SBFSKNKSNDJSNSSK
THIS IS SO GORGEOUS OMG THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!
this but its grace on erid
maybe some special tattoo ink that allows the markings to be visible to eridians, or some form of supeficial scarification. hello. can anybody hear me
more erid!grace hcs below the cut
Simon's mutations mean Erid's gravity has no impact on him — and they don't know it, but he can actually survive fine in the atmosphere, too.
Meanwhile, the starvation and loss of muscle mass means Grace is even more susceptible to Erid's intense gravity. By the time they meet, Grace is already using a wheelchair to move around.
Simon's there four years before Grace's body gives up. The Eridians have no choice but to place him in stasis until they find a solution.
Simon's life the last four years has been a beautiful dream. For the first time in a long time, he's safe. He has people — well, one person and multiple aliens — who care about him. They find him funny! They seek out his company!
There's always food. When Grace finds out he's not from Earth and has never had cake or spaghetti or french fries, Grace moves heaven and Erid to make those foods for him. Simon cries the first time he tastes strawberry shortcake.
Simon gets to see trees and plants and can pick fruits and vegetables from the greenhouse.
On his dark days, though, he feels undeserving. Grace and the Eridians have given him everything, and he can give them nothing in return.
He can fix things, but he's no engineer. He's not able to teach the Eridians science they haven't discovered and change their society. He's just a freeloader.
But then Grace is put in stasis, and Adrian wonders aloud why it is that Simon isn't impacted by Erid's gravity. They ask for a sample of his blood, and Simon doesn't hesitate — he'll bleed himself dry to see Grace smile again.
And they discover a lot of things. How Simon was made less human by The Blood Ocean, but how it's this terrible thing that happened to him that will save Grace, that will allow him to thrive in Erid the way Simon has.
He's been treated less than human his whole life, and then he finds a place where he's respected and valued, and it's there that he finds that he's now the Less Than Human he's always been treated as.
Except no one even CARES how human he is or isn't, and they all love him just the same, and also he SAVED Grace, and Grace wakes up and smiles still a bit tiredly, and he's THANKFUL for The Blood Ocean, and that's a whole 'nother can of worms, and this whole thing has basically meant having about ten cans of worms he needs to deal with, except Grace is SAFE and that supersedes everything else, and — shit, is he in love with Grace?
The Fallout pt. 1
Part 2
I’ve been posting parts daily on my insta and twt but I thought I would share what I have so far here too
Masterpost for my "Mark Watney gets saved by his teacher, Mr. Grace" AU
I need a better title, I'm open to suggestions 🙃
Here are the links to all the snippets I've posted, and I'll add any new ones. Turn on notifications for this post if you wanna get the updates!
First idea + Part 1 (first contact)
Part 2 (first convo)
Part 3 (Back on Earth: Stratt and Kapoor)
Part 4 (Hailing Earth)
Part 5 (Crush)
For now, this au is just a silly concept and I'm posting whatever snippets enter my brain completely out of order (only the first 2 are a direct follow-up), so you can read them out of order too. This might become an actual fic as soon as I have an actual plot lol
(and of course I'll post that here too)
Normally I like to throw Simon into the PHM 'verse so he can be happy, but let's switch things around for a sec.
Grace fell asleep in his biodome on Erid, and wakes up in the middle of a submarine at the bottom of the blood ocean. He (and Simon) are understandably freaked out by his sudden appearance, and Grace is even more freaked out by his surroundings. They're shouting at each other, Simon is ready to fight, swearing up a storm, while Grace is trying to simultaneously cower away and not touch any of the blood-soaked walls. It's pure chaos.
Suddenly the radio kicks on, Ava demanding to know what's happening. Simon does his best to explain, but he's frustrated and confused and not entirely convinced this is real. But then Grace cuts in, and starts to ramble as he tries to figure out how he got there, talking about wormholes and hallucinogens and the side-effects of long-term heavy metal exposure. He's flustered, and when he gets flustered, he starts talking.
And up on the surface, Ava just freezes. Because she doesn't know how the fuck Grace got down there, but she knows what he is. And what he is, is a scientist, something humanity desperately needs. The Quiet Rapture wiped out most of the human race's scientific minds, and the few that remained were fought over fiercely by the different factions, often to their detriment. Grace would be an incredible resource, if he actually knows as much as his ranting seems to imply.
The blood ocean might be able to help humanity, but a scientist definitely can. Especially a scientist with as diverse a portfolio as Grace. He may have started off as a microbiologist, but during his time on Project Hail Mary and his mission to Tau Ceti, Grace has picked up a little bit of everything. He is arguably the smartest person alive in the universe at the moment. And while Ava might not realize this, she knows enough to recognize that he's valuable.
She orders Simon to come back up to the surface.
This is from my ever-growing Word Document of all the domains/epithets of Perses Diogenes.
Perses Diogenes - His main epithet. To say his full name was only used in ceremonies and religious processions and not used in vain, because saying his full name automatically could bind you to tell the truth, and his name was used in making oaths and serious promises. Some have said that saying his name and giving him an offering, after praying to one of his fathers, could calm their moods and show more compassion towards you.
Diogenes Pistos (the loyal one) - one of his main epithets. This epithet was used to wish people to be loyal, be it in a familial, romantic or job/servant context. He was identified as a personification of absolute loyalty. His name was sworn in special or everyday promises as a means of enforcing the truth of their actions and the weight of their promises. To lie after this was equivalent to damning oneself.
It also served a military purpose, as commanders and soldiers invoked his name and swore to protect their land and their people.
Diogenes Philopater (father-loving) is used together with the worship of his fathers. A lot of temples to Diogenes Philopator were in the vicinity of one of his fathers’ temples where in both cases there would be either a statue of him or one of his fathers. He famously was regarded as the favorite and most beloved child of both of his fathers.
Diogenes Philostorgos (family-loving) was worshipped in a more familial context. Could be used to symbolize the loyalty to one's family and the loyalty to the family in which you were accepted.
Diogenes Polyolbos (full of blessings) the epithet was mostly used in the context of cooking. This domain he shared with his aunt Hestia, the goddess of hearth and family. Him gifting human’s tomatoes, potatoes and various spices hailed him as a god of cooking and a patron of chefs and cooking households. To this day kyane-ah plakountas, or as they famously called the blue cookies, are regarded as one of Greece's traditional desserts.
Also, famously a lot of restaurants in Greece and abroad name their restaurants after Perses Diogenes.
Diogenes Kourotrophos (of the children) was the most prominent and important domain of Perses Diogenes. It encapsulated his calling as a “god of demigods” and overall was associated with parenting. Participating directly or indirectly in the upbringing and protection of heroes, he was the patron and protector of all demigods and was believed to protect kids from great dangers and was also worshipped as a god of orphans and adoption respectively, giving him quite a maternal role.
He famously also was the adoptive father of the great healer turned god, Asclepius by Apollo’s request. There are even sources of him raising his half-brother Dionysus after his birth as a means to protect him from the wrath of Hera.
Diogenes Limenus (of the harbor) - In this aspect the god was considered the patron or the protector of the harbor.
Diogenes Euplous (fair voyage) is a protector of anyone who was in the sea. Before any sea travels, people made offerings to Diogenes in exchange for a safe journey, placed somewhere in the port where the ships docked. Diogenes Euplous is often shown as a youth, accompanied by his sea father Poseidon, which is confirmed by the fact that a lot of the gifts were children's toys, as if asking the god not only to show them favor, but to also take care of their children back at home.
Euplous was also viewed as a companion to the god Hermes in psychopomp duties, delivering the souls of those who were lost at the sea to the Underworld, which gave him a quite interesting chthonic connection. He is portrayed holding a fisher net in which he caries the souls.
Diogenes Areios (war-like Diogenes) - The war-like Diogenes was most frequently worshipped in Sparta. Depicted as a young man in his late teens to early twenties he is armed with his titular sword Anaklusmos, bronze xiphos, and a shield. He is dressed in a lifted helmet, akin to his half-siblings Athena and Ares, who are also war deities, and a breastplate.
The net of Diogenes (more frequently used by Diogenes Euplous can be found by his hip.) He represents the soldier's loyalty to their homeland and people.
Diogenes Akhlys (of the poison) - the epithet being rather negative on its own, actually has a rather positive meaning in context. The god was regarded as a healer of any poison or toxin, which gave him a branched domain of healing. A lot of healers and apothecaries would pray to him to brew a perfect remedy, as it is only the dose that distinguishes medicine from poison.
There can be found lots of myths where the god personally healed someone from a poisonous plant or a venomous snake bite. The cult of Diogenes Akhlys is one of the only cults that, mythologically speaking, was not constructed with the help of his fathers, which made some scholars believe it to be one of his eldest cults.
Diogenes Akhlys was seen as a kind and benevolent deity and most often than not was worshipped together with his half-brother Apollo, the god of medicine and plagues.
The saying “only loyalty can root out poison” came directly from this epithet.
Diogenes Halosydnos (sea-nurtured)
Diogenes Ombrios (rain-giving)
Diogenes Androgynos A quite rare epithet given to the god. It was most likely derived from the fact, that akin to his half-brother Apollo, Perses Diogenes wore longer garments of clothing covering his knees and calves and giving illusion of a female gown. Some statues of him were even mistaken for women if not for his short hair, shroud on his shoulders and holding a sword.
It is also interesting to note that Diogenes was the only male god that was constantly portrayed as fully dressed in chiton, cape and sandals, compared to the statues and artworks of other gods who had some amount of nudity to them. It is unknown if was a religious requirement, considering the god was categorized as an unmarried youth, or simply a blind luck of more such artworks surviving.
Diogenes Krokopeplos (saffron dressed) - A lot of the statues of Diogenes can best be recognized by his orange cape. The colour of the cape gives him one of his most well-known epithets, saffron-clad. In some myths the cape was used as a funeral shroud for the demigods he held dear.
The greatest example for this being the death his adopted son Asclepius. When Diogenes’ father Zeus struck Asclepius with lightning, no body was left, so the god collected his ashes in his cape and buried them together.
(Diogenes Nymphios (Diogenes the Groom) - is often spoken in the context of unfulfilled romantic desires of many gods who pursued Perses Diogenes although none were found worthy of him.
He is closely linked to Hera and Aphrodite, as the god was considered the perfect groom- eternally eligible yet never attainable. He represented young boys that would soon be wed and widowers whose wives died young.
Both male and female parties could pray to the god for loyalty in their marriage. Mothers would pray to be wed to a kind and gentle husband, and families would pray for a virtuous wife. It is the most ornate depiction of the Diogenes. Often depicted as a youth around the age of 20, with his signature orange cloak on his shoulders and one arm outstretched, as to invite someone to take it or offer gifts. An eternal groom waiting for his chosen one.)
(I am still unsure of this one )
Diogenes Philogynos (fond of women) - One of the most iconic epithets used to describe the god, Diogenes Philogynos was seen as a symbol of protection specifically to women. Many myths describe his kindness and fondness towards women, and many accounts speak of him referring to women as equals, what was uncharacteristic for the time of ancient Greece. In marriage processions his priestesses could serve as guardians for the bride. In some cases, they could even advocate on the side of the bride and offer some degree of protection until the bride has been ceremonially accepted into the groom's house.
This protection could even carry towards women seeking divorce. If a woman faces a danger of being in, or being returned to an unstable home, she could go to her local temple and petition for a sanctuary, before all contracts be signed. During this time, a woman could become a priestess of Perses, since his temples did not have a requirement of celibacy or virginity. The temples of Perses also served as a “safe harbor” for women who bore out of wedlock, widows and those who suffered abuse within the household.
Abuse and mistreatment of women, especially in marriage will invite his wrath, and misfortune upon men. Many myths tell about him taking the women and children away to his temples and severely punishing the abusers.
Feel free to add anything that comes to mind.
P.S. I tried to make the domains more varied, so to say, as the mythological gods are not as neatly categorized and thematically coherent, as we think, and a lot of them, had a lot of domains that were either one specific domain or to have many that overlapped and were completely different from one another.
CANON. I DECLARE THAT THIS IS CANON TO THE PERSES DIOGENES UNIVERSE.
so I've been thinking. about zeus' plan in toa and how this world works and
mythological figures can't die. it has been established. the belief system guarantees that as long as they stay alive in the cultural zeitgeist, they will return
but what zeus was doing in toa... he bound apollo's consciousness into a mortal vessel. his emotions and feelings and personal opinions and moral values. all the things that you can only gain with lived experience
and most importantly all things that are not known or written about. those are his inner thoughts. and they were all carefully isolated and bound into a permanent fixed state. solid and material in the ways a god should never be
a god's sense of self is remarkably fluid and fragile after all. they have to fight for every bit of personhood and to hold onto it... is an active effort. it's not their natural state
so I wonder... was that the plan then. since to kill "apollo" is impossible by the rules of the world. then to kill all his self sustained parts. his interiority, the things only he would have known, the things that made apollo apollo
and then when "apollo" ended up reforming it would be someone purely made out of the cultural perception and mythology of "apollo". without any of his personal opinions or unknown to the public experiences. his public image that is, of course, completely loyal to the king of the gods
Clytemnestra
I turn to Ares.

Hello! I hope you're having a beautiful day. Can you perhaps suggest a fic or few where Apollo doesn't ascend to godhood (whether by his choice or not)?
Hey there! You can start with this post, and here's some to add to that...
I Pick an Age When I'm Gonna Disappear (Until Then, I Can Try Again) by y_vanille
Apollo finished his trials. But that doesn’t matter to Zeus. No, he’s still stuck on earth as a mortal until he dies, because the unfairness of Zeus knows no bounds. — Or, what if Apollo stayed mortal until he died, and now he’s running around doing gods know what, like helping a stray demigod!

I sat down on the street and took a look at myself Said where you going man you know the world is headed for hell Say your goodbyes if you've got someone you can say goodbye to ~"How Far We've Come" by Matchbox Twenty AKA The Fates, upset at Apollo refusing to return to Olympus and regain his godhood, unwind the tapestry and return him to when the story started going off track. This was a fatal mistake.
Til Death Do He Part AU by ArtJunkyard
A Trials of Apollo AU in which Apollo finishes his trials, but is seen as unfit to rejoin the olympians after the embarrassing things he has done, the insults he has thrown at them and the sensitive, Olympian-only information that he has shared. Zeus doesn’t want him to rejoin them on Olympus, and his word is law. Apollo is cast back down to live as a regular mortal who’s forbidden to enter the camps and have contact with deities. Hopefully he’ll just forget about them… right? There’s more information/art on this AU on the ToA discord, my instagram (my_art_junkyard) and my Tumblr (artjunkyardsdoodledump) This takes place nine years after the end of the trials, Lester is now 25.
We hope you enjoy! Leave kudos, leave a comment, and happy reading!

time travel au where lester and meg from tower of nero suddenly end up in the original pjo timeline, get mistaken for runaway demigods, and proceed to be accidentally recruited into kronos’s army.
problem: they’re stuck on the princess andromeda. problem: they have to figure out how to stop kronos from rising without being discovered. problem: the fact that lester is quite literally the god apollo is unbeknownst to luke castellan, who very much dislikes (huge understatement) the gods.
what follows is that encounters with camp half-blood don’t go too well, considering they’re nominally on opposite sides. lester and luke have some complicated conversations about the gods and their parenting. apollo realizes belatedly that most of his kids haven’t died yet. in ways, the older-brother-younger-sister dynamic between lester and meg vaguely reminds luke of annabeth.
also the obligatory secret identity shenanigans (‘the gods doesn’t care about us, lester. apollo hasn’t done shit for you. you don’t owe him anything.’ ‘well. um. about that—’)
somehow this becomes a fix-it ??

HEAR ME OUT! Percy Jackson as a love god; more specifically, as a god of faithful love (not to be confused with his sonetimes-brother Anteros as a god of requited love). This love can come romantically, platonically, familial, or just love of a concept (humanity, a passion, animals, you name it)
It's the love that empowers bravery and the willingness to sacrifice for others. It's the love that gives hope for a better future, if you're willing to work for it. It's the love that will let a person fall into hell for their loved ones. It's the love that causes a demigod to willingly take on an entire prophecy to protect his younger cousin.
Because face it, Percy Jackson is made of love. From the very first book where his main concern when fighting the Chimera were the innocent people around them to the SOM where he became protective of Clarisse the moment he noticed her looking truly nervous around her dad. It's love when looks out for Thalia even when they first didn't get along on the quest. It's love when he keeps searching for Nico and keeping his parentage a secret. It's love when he refuses to leave Nico behind even after Hera guaranteed him and his quest mates safety. It's love when he respects the nymph enough as a person that even the thought of him using his status as a son of Poseidon to strong-arm her into using her river makes him feel bad. It's love when he leaves Calypso's Island and it's love when he grieves that he couldn't remember everyone's names who were lost in the battle at camp. It's love that warns the enemy demigods to get off the boat he and Beckendorf were going to blow up and it's love when he welcomes them back into camp after the war. And most importantly, it's love for the demigods that cause him to turn down immortality in exchange for a better system.
