I know I'm on a social media break right now but...
can we talk about the scrutiny that Black lesbians get for being Black4Black or even just Black4POC in general & how white queers refuse to listen to or understand the racial minorities that share the community with them?
These are all replies that have been directed specifically towards me over on Pinterest. The post I commented on was a Pin about different lesbian flags, one of them being the Black lesbian flag. The comment I made that warranted these responses?
Verbatim: "& this is why i'm strictly pocles4pocles. y'all are exhausting. immediately speaking for us about why we shouldn't have a flag specifically for us black lesbians bc we're all fighting an equal fight. newsflash: we're not. y'all have the privilege of hiding being your whiteness while you do jackshit to do anything to help & protect us besides having a surface level "we're all equal" mentality bc the reality is, we are not equal & never will be with the way y'all constantly ignore & speak over us."
Literally copied & pasted with quotation marks added. Nearly the entire comment section was just white queers refusing to understand why we'd want a lesbian specifically for ourselves. Instead of people being understanding of my (rightful, in my opinion) comment, I instead get:
1. Being told that I'm racist... after stating the fact that Black lesbians are constantly ignored & talked over due to racism, but I'm the one who's racist for wanting to be in a relationship with people that I have a shared experienced with & feel safer with. Because a lot of white queers need to realize that they are not safe to be around & it's because of behavior like this.
2. Being told that I'm not a lesbian because I use he/they even though both he/him lesbians & they/them lesbians have been part of our community for years, so it's only a matter of time that there's going to be lesbians who use both. & I find it ironic that somebody with a David Bowie profile picture & neopronouns, pronouns that are also outside of the norm, is trying to dictate what my sexuality shouldn't be because they don't understand or care about lesbian history.
3. A gay man turning my comment into "who hurt you bro?*" even though my comment is talking about an experience that Black lesbians (plural, more than one... probably more than two if you wanna get crazy with it) have had. Not only is he a gay man coming into the conversation about [Black] lesbians, but he's also turning the shared experience into "that's just a you problem."
4. I even got a response telling me that I'm "not even black enough" to be speaking on this issue when they didn't get the response they wanted from me after replying to my comment with the "we should all be equal no matter what! 🥹😝🥰" mentality that I criticized in my original comment.
Because I guess instead of listening to people in your community that don't have the privelege of hiding behind their skin color, it's easier to have your White Ego get hurt & try to dismantle & put down a Black lesbian to make yourself feel better because you don't want to hear or face the truth. A lot of white queers are white before they are queer & therefore, I will never truly be safe in a romantic relationship with a white person. Until then, I guess I'm just gonna be proudly racist & only be with people I can relate to on a deeper level.
happy disability pride month! reminder that quite a few of us are also queer & just want to remind some of y'all that there is no marriage equality if we can't get married without losing our benefits
