Even before he went to sleep he started talking to me about meat and fruits.. And he said to me dad buy us fruit I love fruit..Why haven't we bought fruit for so long? What can I do? There is no meat or fruit in Gaza right now. We can barely afford flour. It has been a long time since we last ate meat. I don't want meat or fruit for myself. i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again: what we want is for these things to be run like a HOUSEHOLD… a home. A household still has a budget and an income and resources to manage; all the moving parts are the same but the focus is different.

a business will let every person in it die a terrible death if it makes the business profit. A household will spend it’s last dollar to keep the people in it safe and healthy.

A household will use money as a resource to add value to the lives of the people in the household. A business will use people as a resource to add monetary value to the business

We don’t want a government run like a business, we want a country run like a household. Because we live here.

nothing funnier than the shock on someone's face when they try to be condescending to you about your autism & fail miserably. i was in a course and the instructor said something so extremely bigoted it was a genuine safety risk so i raised my hand and when he called on me i very calmly took him to task about it and then a few classmates backed me up and he backpedaled so all in all it worked out.

later one of my colleagues approached me in private and said, "hi. i know you've said that sometimes with your autism it can be difficult to read a room and know when it's appropriate to have certain discussions so i just wanted to tell you that the issue you brought up in class earlier, well, it wasn't the time. you could have waited to talk to the instructor after class or emailed him. it sorta caused a scene, and i know you don't mean to. : )"

i laughed and said, "yes i did. i confronted him about it in front of everyone because what he said needed to be challenged in front of everyone. it would've been dangerous for people to leave today believing what he said with no other points of view."

and my colleague looked SO shocked. he said, "oh! well, huh. okay!"

he really heard an autistic person calmly and succinctly articulate an argument about human rights and thought, "well that must be a mistake."

this doesn't just apply to autism tbh. the issue here is that so many people spend their entire lives desperately trying to adhere to the status quo, whatever it is in any given moment, and remain neutral, that they stand by while bigotry thrives in their company.

obviously there are people who need to do that for safety, but many people, like my colleague, do have the power and position to speak out, but they don't. so when they hear something they might even recognize is unacceptable, and someone says, "that's unacceptable," they see the person challenging the problem as the actual agitator.

my colleague was uncomfortable with conflict, and it was convenient for him that i'm autistic because he could assume it was simply a lapse in judgement that i said anything. not that it was responsible to say something, and i'm the person who did, and perhaps next time HE should.

the rest of my classmates agreeing with me? well, just ignore them i guess.

Btw for those of you who aren’t in the know, we doctors here in the US just got a nice little note from the CDC this past week basically saying anyone testing positive flu A should have reflex testing to H5N1 (bird flu). They know it’s in the population. This quadruple season of COVID, Flu, RSV and Norovirus is hitting very hard and now the ICUs are filling up with flu patients but guess. what. administration. Just stopped all external communications?! Girls. Wear a fucking mask. Bird flu is likely in the population and the current US government does not give a shit and wants to watch us all die.

Uhhh, btw, the mortality rate of Covid (percentage of infected people who end up dead) was approximately 0.7%. Bird flu right now has a mortality rate of 49%. This is probably mostly because only severe cases are tested (and hence detected), so in the end the number might be much lower. Probably in the single digits.

Yet, what most people don’t realize is that in terms of a pandemic Covid is very very easy going. Beginners level, so to speak. The flu is not. Covid is enveloped, meaning most disinfectants work. Bird flu is not. The normal hand desinfectants do not much against it. Covid, while mutating quickly, was still limited to traditional means to evade the immune response. Bird flu, as all types of flu can change its entire outer appearance in a few steps using recombination.

As of yet, the bird flu isn’t a pandemic. Good luck to all of us if it becomes one, because it will make Covid look like a child’s game.
