My Application Process So Far
Hey, everybody! I'm Mackenzie, a 19-year-old human resources management major at Oklahoma State University. I'm in the process of applying for the Disney College Program for the fall 2015 semester, and I couldn't be more excited!
I first heard about DCP in 8th grade, when my friend's sister worked at Walt Disney World as a friend of Chip & Dale. Ever since then, it's been my dream to apply! And now that I'm in college, it's the perfect time.Â
For the whole fall semester, I constantly checked the DCP website for applications to be dropped. It took me longer than I care to admit to figure out I could sign up to receive an email when there were new applications available. Once I signed up, it was just a matter of waiting.
On January 30, I was going through my email and noticed I had a ton of spam, so I decided to clear it out. Imagine my horror when I found an email from Disney in the middle of Viagra ads! Luckily, it had only been sent three days earlier. I immediately rushed over to the DCP page and started the application.
The DCP application is pretty standard. It asks for your personal information and work history. It also asks what languages you speak, if you have a criminal record, if you've ever lived in a residence hall, etc. It's definitely the easiest part of the process.Â
Once you submit your application, you wait again. Some of you will be immediately passed on to the web-based interview. If so, congratulations! You've officially begun the interview process. If you end up "in submission" for a while, it doesn't mean you're No Longer in Consideration (NLIC), but it is harder to get in from that point. In my case, I was passed on to WBI in about five minutes.Â
The WBI is basically a personality test that takes about 40 minutes to complete. They ask all kinds of questions. I had everywhere from, "Do you prefer to work solo or in a group setting?" to "What do you do if your work area is cluttered?" The purpose of the WBI is for them to get a sense of who you are as an employee. At the end, you'll be given a list of jobs, or "roles", and asked to say if you have a high, moderate, little, or no interest in them. Be totally honest. I said I had a high interest in everything besides lifeguard (I can't swim. I know, I'm lame!) because I would want to do any job at Disney. However, there are people who only request one job and still get in. It just depends on other factors.
After the WBI, you wait again to see if you can schedule your phone interview. If you're not asked to move on, you'll be notified that you're NLIC. If you get a PI, schedule it as quickly as you can! Those spots fill up fast. Some people move on really quickly, others wait a long time. Again, I scheduled my PI within 5 minutes of finishing my WBI. I've just gotten lucky!
Now that all of that's done, I just have to wait for my PI next Thursday (2/12) at 10:45am. Wish me luck!
