Day 29 - Psychosomatic Bullshit
Found the post!
fun fact: tigers also contract their muscles to make a slow tiger into a fast tiger
A trans woman was just sentenced to 15 years in prison for defending herself from an attacker. She wanted no part in the fight and witnesses described her actions as self-defense. With right-wing media constantly portraying her as "evil" since the incident, the trial was over before it began.
Jaia's prison ID number is 3492500039. The state of New York handles commissary money transfers through JPay. Monetary support is crucial for even a 'short' stay in prison, all the more so for trans women who are disproportionately mistreated by corrections officers and other prisoners, and frequently placed in solitary for their 'own safety'.
JPay offers convenient & affordable correctional services, including money transfer, email, videos, tablets, music, education & parole and p
Have to share this omg.
for a long time i lived alone, but then i got a service dog. after a lot of training, the service dog came to live with me—except, the same day the trainers brought quincy, an orange tabby tomcat also showed up.
"you didn't tell us you had a cat!" said the trainers, both very upset (because they hadn't trained quincy to live with a cat).
"i don't have a cat," i said. "I don't know who this is."
the cat never went away. i named him poe dameron and he lived with me and quincy. they got along fine, in their own way.
we had our quiet adventures. poe was very cuddly but sometimes he just took off for a day or two. once he got into some paint.
after a while, i found out that poe dameron really lived across the alleyway, and belonged to my neighbor elizabeth's teenaged son, and his real name was PUMPKIN. but poe apparently didn't like the teenaged son (probably not least because he named him PUMPKIN), so he had come to live with us instead. elizabeth was fine with it.
the years went by and one day poe dameron crossed the rainbow bridge too soon. i took his ashes to elizabeth. we were very sad.
a few weeks later, she asked me to come over to see something.
it turned out that poe dameron had also lived with a THIRD lady, a few streets over. this lady, whom neither of us knew, was a painter, and she had made this painting of poe dameron. i don't know what she called him, but she painted him like one of your french girls.
"i think you should have it," elizabeth said, tactfully. "after all, he spent the most time with you." i was quite sure she just didn't want this hideous painting in her gabillion-dollar house, but i agreed.
the painting now hangs in the kitchen over my stove—not least because its brick-red frame matches my curtains. and because it delights me to see poe dameron every day, looking so fluffy and sultry, like an orientalist renaissance odalisque.
United Healthcare getting sued by its investors, because it didn't warn them that the CEO getting murdered (by the tendrils of their unmitigated greed) was going to lead to them approving more claims (for covered services that they had no right to deny) is a cartoonish example of exactly why their CEO got murdered.
Their argument is essentially "You promised us a specific profit margin that is not possible to achieve under this increased public scrutiny of your unethical practices. We only agreed to invest because of those unethical practices. So we demand compensation because you didn't warn us that you'd be behaving more ethically"
And idk. Satire isn't just dead. We've pissed on its corpse and now it's dissolving in lye.
this is one of those little details that jumped out and stuck with me since hearing about this.
crazy to take a business to court because they need to take “aggressive, anti-consumer” tactics. like right, making life increasingly harder and worse for everyone in the pursuit of short term profits is very intentional, and sometimes someone will just come right out and say it.
Can we also talk about how batshit fucked up it is to refer to patients as health care "consumers"? Like we have a choice in needing care?
Truly optional shit already isn't covered.
THEY feed on US.
u know that reminds me of this tweet going around making fun of dark mode users like 'haha do you guys need your books on dark paper' and it's like yeah some people can't read text printed on white paper? regular books aren't accessible to some people for that reason. whats the joke.
source: used to work for a company that produced large print documents and one of the services we provided was putting documents onto different coloured paper for people who couldn't read black on white 👍
My mom!!! My mom!!!
My mom is very dyslexic and has always had a really really hard time with reading, especially black text on white paper. When she went back to college to get her degree, she found that using a colored transparent folder (she says that highlighter yellow and greens worked best for her) over a printed paper helped her distinguish words a LOT easier!! Of course, this may not work for everyone, but it helped her a lot!! She says it's the only way she was able to pass her ethics class :]
tag by sunderwight: #people mocking accessibility stuff always end up going 'what's next? another thing that is actually a good idea and already done sometimes?'
People who are afraid are easily manipulated.
Republicans keep their fragile voters very afraid.
The math aint mathin'.
i hate when rich people condescend with the whole 'money can't buy happiness' argument like listen. just because buying your fourth car didn't fill the void in your deluded disconnected-from-reality life doesn't mean not having to worry about food/ bills/medicine wouldn't greatly improve the mental health of literally everyone else on the planet
Fun fact: they've done studies and money DOES buy happiness, but it tops out after a certain amount (nowadays around $500,000)
So yeah, having food / bills / medicine & a fair amount of leisure covered by income DOES buy happiness, but excess wealth depletes the effect exponentially.
I think we as a website are sleeping on the potential of Microsoft teams default memes
Hey guys, an extremely fucked up new crab just dropped! Look at them beady ol’ eyes!
