Here's some shots of my heavily customised doll to look like the Baker from Cinderella 2 as I'm going to cover him up in his outfit when I get around to drafting and sewing the pieces up.

When I sculpting him, I knew I wanted some heft behind the placement of the fat since bakers are known to have really strong arms from all the physical work that goes into the profession. 

And I'm really proud of how he turned out as I did not have anything doll related to even reference, and most of the things I looked up were too realistic or unsavoury to reference.

Also he's wearing a towel because the gaps in his joints really detracted from the pictures and I really wanted to show off his sculpt.

Ryan’s tattoos: progress/ process.

I bought a doll and got the urge to start wiping and painting people, so Ryan (migidoll ell) is always a good candidate.

I remembered someone using cricut removable vinyl to make stencils, and wondered if I could use that for his arm tats. And holy shit,am I pleased with how it went.

I used removable vinyl and black gouache paint for the first step. Gouache can be re-wet, unlike acrylic, but it is much thicker and more opaque than watercolor paint.

Once the gouache dried, I wiped it off. Like I suspected, it stained the top layer of my sealant a really lovely gray. (Sealant: two coats of testor’s and two coats of golden liquid matte medium/drawing ground)

I then was able to work back into the shapes using Golden High Flow Acrylic paint and a dip pen. This was the part that made a huge difference—no messing with watercolor pencils or brushes on an uneven surface. I will probably seal another couple of times to cut the gloss on the linework and blush it but I am SOOOOOO pleased with how this works. I’m posting this here so I don’t forget how I did it, and maybe it’ll spark something in someone else!!

she’s here and she’s so freaking cute. I am SO happy with the AE girl body omg. It’s the first MSD body I really fell in love with and almost bought when I was looking at buying Clara (in 2014, jeez) but I ended up buying a Mirodoll that turned out to be a recast Domuya Flexi body. Whomp whomp. That’s what you get for trying to skimp on price, I guess! I’m not 100% sure who new girl is yet, but time will tell.

Her face up is so cute I almost hate to wipe it even though it’s not my style in the slightest!!!! She’s super yellow, a lil neon in some lighting but that just means she fits right in 😂 I’m not very delicate with my dolls so I’m thrilled to not be too worried about scuffs, scratches,etc. She might be a great candidate for a de-yellowing if I ever get around to it.

I haven’t bought a BJD since 2017 so this is lots of fun excitement for me! And maybe some doll project motivation! We will see!

Hmm! So some doa users have been experimenting with rooting wig caps using a rooting tool (and sealing the ends after). I gave it a try using both fresh doll lynette hair and straight nylon and it seems to work! I'm definitely not going to do the whole head like this but it's nice to know there's an alternative to ventilation.

Ooh that's cool! How do you secure it to the wig cap, gluing the underside? But then how would you get the right shape..

I actually didn't do anything more than punching the hair in but that's the idea! The post I read said that after gluing the ends down, to put it back on the covered head to dry. But now that I think about it, that seems like it would take some time since it wouldn't be exposed to the air🤔

If the wig cap can hold its shape and withstand Fabri-Tac, you can thin out the Fabri-Tac with acetone and swipe it around the inside with a popsicle stick. I suggest doing a couple thin layers and letting them dry, with the wig opening facing up, in between.

That is what I did with the Rainbow High Avery wig that I had that wasn't probably rooted and it worked just fine.

oh you’ve just solved something for me, I’ve been trying to figure out an adhesive like fabritac but thinner, for different wig reasons, and knowing i can thin it with acetone is SUPER HELPFUL ty 😭
