Saw Hathaway 2, absolute fuckin cinema. Will get into spoilers later, but just on its face I think this was an amazing follow-up on the last movie with, aside from one or two shots with wonky rotoscoping, was visually stunning. The additions made compared to the novel version I think were really really strong.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD the stuff with the MP Nu was so good.
The sheer seething anger Hathaway has at Amuro for failing to ultimately be more than a tool for the state. The conflict between an ideological commitment to following through on Char's goals and the trauma from Quess and thus the want, the need, to not be Char. The combination of the ideological drive and sexual hangups and relationship issues all tied together combining to make him so like char anyways! So Juicy. Hathaway you big ol ball of trauma yoouuuuuu
I also really liked the deeper look in Gigi, her position as this person fed up with being a tool, that's seizing the opportunity in front of her to free herself from the gilded cage she lives in as a courtesan and gain any sort of real agency. She makes for a very interesting inversion of Lalah.
Kelia's place I think is also really interesting, the link we have to Hathaway's life before Mafty, when his person isn't being dominated by the ghosts of Char's Counterattack and thus the way that that past he'd to some extent been able to move on from has come back and dominated his life and person. And also how the remaining part of hathaway from back then is weakened, unable to hold onto her, how it's come to be dominated and overridden by the trauma and weight of the past, by gravity, even.
I also thought the comment from Gigi about the weight of earth gravity on earth being heavy and stifling compared to earth was interesting, particularly cause of how it reminded me of Machu's line in gquuuuux about the gravity of earth feeling the same. Now obviously the difference here is owed to the difference in what the two are using "gravity" to represent but it did bring to mind and stand out for it.
Lastly, I really liked the scene at the end of the Xi/Alyzeus fight where Hathaway is lost in the mafty sauce and slowly inching the beam saber into the MP Nu's abdomen and the scene of Lane scrambling, that was really really hot, thank you whoever put that in there.
