There’s something to be said about the pedestal that Amuro (and to a lesser extent White Base by extension) is placed upon throughout MSG. He’s forced into a conflict that he didn’t choose, told adapt or die and when he does adapt, he’s deified as something beyond normal humanity.

They celebrate him like some kind of natural, ignoring how much he’s hurt and suffered to this point because that’s not part of his in universe hero narrative. He’s treated fear and envy, never again empathized with as a human. It’s no wonder he was so drawn to Lalah, she was the only person (besides Char but that’s another conversation) who could truly see him as he was.
