THE SOPRANOS Season 5 | Episode 1 "Two Tonys"
Everytime I criticize my art skills (or lack thereof), I draw from reference and immediately think “wait I’m goated”
Full piece for @ pleaseinsertcoinzine !
I feel stupid for not putting the pieces together sooner

No shit.
Larissa Wolcott did an alright and really admirable job, but there really was just no topping how hard Jessica Calvello went here.
a heart made fullmetal 🦾💕💥
This is important, please pay attention.
discord i do not believe you are acting in good faith here
like, i know that i'm a high school graduate who knows shit about fuck when it comes to privacy and data protections but i'm pretty sure "tracking the number of messages" and "frequently used emojis" does not need me to enable "use data to personalize my discord experience"
Like, one of the things really is your most-used emojis for the year. You’re telling me there’s absolutely no way to count that without me giving over the keys to my kingdom? If you can’t do that, then how come I can search my message history?
My point is, this is clearly a ploy to get more people to opt-in to data collection, because that makes discord money. There’s no actual reason they can’t do this without that box ticked. They just want you to think that.
Why did “be critical of your media” turn into “find all its flaws and hate it” why did people become allergic to FUN
Because people confuse “critical as in critical thinking” with “critical as in criticizing something,” so they think that “look for something bad, no matter how far-fetched” is what “being critical” means.
They also don’t realize that “literary criticism” means…
Okay. What literary criticism IS, is like taking a mechanical clock apart to see all the gears and learn how it fits together and approach your next clock with more knowledge of what makes it tick.
What they THINK literary criticism means is, you take the clock apart and beat all the pieces with a hammer, then scream at it because it doesn’t tick for you the way it used to.
You see this a lot on twitter. People use the phrase ‘critical thinking’ in exchange for actively looking for problems in media without analyzing if your biases might be flawed.
I also think YouTube media “analysis” is to blame. Negativity illicits more responses in the human brain than positivity, so people are more receptive to someone dunking on something popular and in today’s age something being popular is a death sentence. People nowadays don’t have the time or energy to sit down and watch an entire season of a TV show that’s popular, and the frequency of which a show/game/anime is talked about online is enough to irritate someone. The Critical Drinker made a platform off of shitting on wokeness and the MCU after he realized he can garner an audience of insecure men who hate ‘agendas’ being pushed into their movies.
Y’all “critical thinking” does not equal “criticism”.
I am very tired of saying positive things about characters and getting told I need to do some critical thinking (so that I’ll see the characters are actually bad). No. That’s not how that works. I already did some critical thinking and came to the conclusions that these characters are wonderful. Criticism or straight up character bashing is not more enlightened and is not how critical thinking works. “Critical thinking” is not “thinking about all the bad or problematic aspects of something.” It’s looking objectively at evidence, looking at context, recognizing and examining personal biases and assumptions, considering what assumptions and biases are being used in a given argument by other people, etc. Sometimes this process brings up criticisms, yes, but sometimes it also leads to the conclusion that something is actually good despite it being made out to be bad.
vampires are so full of shit. "oh the human race is beneath us, you're just livestock to us" I don't think you know what livestock is. do you feed us? care for us? protect us from predators? no. you just slink around dark alleys and ambush people. that's not what a higher being does. that's a bottom feeder. a parasite. karate punches your head off
