Lately I haven't been able to stop thinking about my Pikachu character Romeo and the Pokemon shelter he lives at. Namely, I haven't been able to stop thinking about different Pokemon that might end up there, so I did some sketches of them.
I wanted to draw cryptids, and one that I hadn't drawn yet was The Squonk. The Squonk is a sad little guy who is described as having misfitting skin, warts, and a visage so hideous it avoids seeing itself at all costs lest it burst into more tears.
Look upon the Squonk and weep
I'll be honest, my version of the Squonk is my favorite. Did I take this thing that is supposed to be so ugly it dissolves into tears by looking at its reflection kind of cute? Well, I think so.
We're at the "JK Rowling is personally funding litigation to try and destroy AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL" stage of rabid UK terf brain.
Screenshot via Alejandra Caraballo @esqueer.net on bluesky
Tldr Amnesty International, global human rights organisation, published a report called 'A growing threat: the anti-rights movement in the UK'. In it is detailed, amongst others, a whole bunch of transphobic groups and organisations, including Beira's Place, JK Rowling's trans exclusionary sexual violence support service. JK Rowling threw a shit fit and got Amnesty to take the report down by threatening libel. This was obviously not enough, because you can't appease a fascist, so now she's going to bankroll a bunch of lawsuits anyway through the JK Rowling Women's Fund.*
You can read an archived version of the report here, please save it and share it.
*Not so friendly reminder there is no way to engage in the wizard books without enabling this shit.
Adult ask game: 27/28
Answered, but I'll continue: 27. My other favorite household chore is folding the laundry. I'll usually listen to MrCreepyPasta or some podcast while I'm doing it. It's peaceful. 28. I mentioned this in the tags of my other post, but while I love being outdoors, I have really bad allergies, and that means when I need to do stuff like mow the lawn, I turn into The Snot Monster and can't breathe or see things because my eyes are watering so much. It's evil and I hate it
1 and 20!
I already answered these, but it's a new day so why not 1. My other favorite kitchen utensil are these ceramic/covered pots and pans I have. We got them as a wedding present and they're the fucking best cookware I've ever had.
20. I said my favorite beverage was tea, which is true, but I'll be more specific: Early Grey is a constant favorite, but my current favorite for the summer is a "milky" oolong (which describes the smoothness, there's no milk in it), and a green tea with dried coconut in it.
For the ageing userbase prompt: 1, 3, 4, 12, 16, 20 (an excuse to post your header image lol), 25, 27, and 28 <3
Okay, I already answered 1 and 16, so let's go down the list:
3. Best job I've ever had:
It's kind of hard to say - my old art store in California has a huge part of my heart in it, and my old bosses are basically family now (they've been better parents to me than my actual ones in every way). But I also love working in an elementary school enough that I'm literally going back to school so that I can become a certified teacher. Do those two!
4. Worst job I've ever had:
This is more of a gig than a proper job, but it would have to be the time I cleaned out an old married couple of clown's house. It's been almost 20 years and that haunts me.
12. Most expensive purchase I've ever made:
The monkey's paw kind of curled with this one, but my house.
20. Favorite beverage:
Despite my header image, it's tea! (My header image, for reference)
This was based on another ask game like 3 years ago, and it was probably funnier then because my online handle for a decade had "tea" in it.
25. "would you rather own a dishwasher or a laundry machine if you could only have one or the other":
A laundry machine. Every dishwasher I've ever owned has broken down in some catastrophic way to a point where I just plain don't trust them anymore.
27. Favorite household chore:
Piggybacking off the last one, washing dishes. It's kind of my zen "listen to music and think" time.
28. Least favorite household chore:
Cleaning the cat litter. I love cats but my god they're gross
Yeah. It was a bizarre experience, they were former clowns and their house really reflected that aspect of them. I don't want to malign the people because they were hoarders and that's a serious mental illness that I don't want to stigmatize. I, however, was 16 and it was my first time walking in to a situation like that without any prior knowledge of what the job would entail. I was hired by a mom's friend to just "help clean a neighbor couple's house." So it was kind of jarring. The thing I will say, however, is that their entire ceiling - a sharply peaked ceiling, I might add - was covered with action figures. Many of them were in boxes, but some weren't. I remember seeing Buzz Lightyear in his plastic package staring down at me while he was pinned up there like some freak insect. To this day, I don't even know how they managed to do that, considering they were at least in their early 70s, and some of these action figures were 18 feet up. And again, while some were pinned in their boxes, not all of them were. Did they drive nails straight through the abdomen of Optimus Prime? I don't know. I don't think I ever will.

for the ask game: 1,5 and 6? :3
My favorite kitchen appliance would have to be my electric tea kettle, by virtue of how much I use (and abuse) it. Though also just having a cutting board is really, really nice. 5. My favorite piece of furniture is an old table that a friend gave to us. It was hideous yellow and really nasty (he had people renting from him and they trashed it), but we cleaned it up, stained it, and carved into it ourselves. It's pretty neat <3 6. My go-to minimal effort recipe is pierogis and green beens in a pot together. Toss in some oil, garlic, and finish with sour cream, and you've got a whole meal!
15 and 21 for the ask game pls???
15. I have a small collection of calico cats in memoriam of my old cat, Tanali.
21. All of my grandparents have passed.
23. what's the coolest place you've visited?
The coolest place I ever visited? There's so many ways for something to be cool, though! Like, I went to Germany and got to visit my friend and check out some 1000 belltower, and that was awesome. But I *also* got to go into a famous weirdo illustrator's personal home in NYC and play with his cat once, soooooooooo
16
Damn I forgot that I reblogged that ask game and then watched a documentary about oarfish on youtube uuuuuuuh
16. How long have I known my oldest friend? About 16 years! (And we're married now, laughs)

I have a few things lined up for TDoV today but here’s this years painting.
This time around I’ve done an 80’s au version, I know i do these ‘in the mirror’ images a lot, it’s just very close to my heart. I spent so many years looking in the mirror and not recognizing who I saw looking back at me, probably since i was about 13, until sometime in my mid 30s. It’s a really weird and uncomfortable feeling. I like to draw Carrie seeing the person she’ll become when she can one day, when she’s safe and able to live freely. Until then, Caro exists inside her, cheering her on. And one fine day, Caro will wake up and look in the mirror and go, oh! There you are. I’ve been dreaming of you my entire life. ✨
Love you, stay safe, i know things suck right now. But we’re gonna to make it, hand in hand ok?
Bringing this one around for Pride <3
I missed this when you posted it, but God, this piece really speaks to me -- both what you created, and the words you shared. I love the look on Caro's face in the reflection: they might be tired - and how exhausting it is to not allow yourself to be who you are! - but there's also a sort of confidence in their look, like they're looking back at Carrie with the wisdom of patience and saying "you have a future, we're okay, I love you."
I have a lot of feelings about your characters, thank you for sharing them ❤️
