Festering Foundations
Chapter 2
Fester woke up in a dimmly lit concrete room. The hard cement floor was cold and harsh beneath her through the thin layer of clothes she wore. A storm of quetions flooded her head as she looked about the room. Where was she now? Where was her sister? Who was that...Thing, in the dark? She decided she wasn't going to get any answers here. Fester began to stand slowly checking herself for any possible injuries. She was grateful to find she was pain free. She glanced around the room once again. The room was small, maybe 15 × 10 × 10. The only thing in the room was a water bowl, and that alone freaked her out. Was she...in a cell? The only entrance or exit was a single door made of metal with a white door knob. Fester approached the door with caution her only motivation being to find her sister, no matter what. She gripped the doorknob in her hand carefully, and turned it being as quiet as she could.
Fester was surprised when the door opened easily, and even more so by the white tiled floor, white washed walls, and bright florescent lights that greeted her. She didn't know how to feel as she stepped out into what looked like the hallway of a hospital. Her gut screamed danger, but her mind was clouded by confusion due to the bizar nature of the place and situation she seemed to be in. Was this all inside the Mountain she had fallen into? How had she gotten here from her fall? She was hit like a freight train by the images that flashed in her mind, of the Pitch Black and the Thing that lurked within it. Fester decided to proceed down the hallway with extreme caution as she would rather not stumble upon that thing again. Taking her time, while keeping her footsteps light and silent, Fester steadily made her way down the hall for what felt like ages.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity she came to a four-way intersection of hallways. The hallways to her left and right seemed to go on endlessly in either direction. However, the hallway straight in front of her lead directly to a huge purple door. The door was unnecessarily large, about 10 feet tall and 5 feet wide, and seemed completely out of place in the bright, hospital-like hallway. The feeling the door gave her made her uneasy, but looking down the other hallways, and even the one behind her, hoping to find a different way to ended up looping her right back to the intersection. No matter which direction she chose she always, somehow, ended up back at the same intersection! Frustrated and tired after running around in loops, Fester finally decided that she would have to take her chances, and, despite the bad vibe the door gave her, go through the purple door.
Fester was anxious as she approached the door unable to be rid or the horrid sense of dread the door had building inside her. She gently took ahold of the doorknob, which came about eye level with her on the door, and swiftly swung open the door. The dread she felt was nothing compared to the fear she felt at the room behind the door was revealed to her. Behind the purple door was a sadistic looking operation room. Inside the room dead center was a person sized, metal table equipped with restraints and a drain. To the left of the large room was a wall lined with glass cabinets filled with viles, medication of various types, and jars filled with unknown substances. On the right side of the room was a large Infirmary of bladed weapons, torture instruments, and a variety of tools and such obviously meant for pain. However, the most disturbing thing about the room was the wall straight ahead, it was pitch black and glassy looking almost as if it were a large black mirror that stretched from floor to ceiling, and all along the back wall.
Fester could see her own reflection in the black mirror along with the reflection of the room. The feelings of unease before suddenly left her though as she looked into her reflections bright yellow eyes. Almost immediately she knew something as her body moved against her will further into the room. It was like she was in a trance looking into the yellow eyes that glowed in her reflection. As she stepped into the room even further, the trance was forcefully broken by the loud bang of the door slamming shut behind her. Simultaneously, a deep, baritone chuckle echoed within the walls of the operation room. Frantic she bolted over to the door in hopes of being able to fling it open and escape the horror she was currently facing. Unfortunately the door was locked and unopening, terror course through her veins, chilling her to her core, like liquid nitrogen.
"Hello, Child."
The, sonorous, voice from behind her had her body instinctually freezing in place like a statue. Who ever was behund chuckled in amusment at her reaction. Less than a second after the chuckle, Fester, was grabbed from behind by an unseen force which began to drag her backwards to the metal table. Fester screamed and struggled desperate to free herself from her unknown attacker. She fought at the invisiable force pinned her down on the table, straping her into the restraints. Once each of her wrists, ankles, and her head was held down by straps, a tall, skeleton of a man step out from behind the table to her side.
The man, if he even was a man, was wearing a white doctors coat, and glasses making him almost look like a scientist or maybe even a medical professional. He had pale ivory skin, and was extremely skinny and tall. She began to realize he had a face almost identical to that of the Thing she had met in the dark. However, he did not have the same evil grin, he also had larger pinpricks for eyes. After watching him circle the table she was on and study her, Fester found her voice.
"W-what do you want?" She hated how weak and pathetic she sounded. The man gave her a curious look, his floating pinpricks seemed to look right through her.
"I want a great many things, my dear. However, I suppose what you meant was, Why do i have you strapped to this table," he gazed at her as if waiting for a response, but Fester was far too terrified to confirm, deny, or even just reaspond. A smirk appeared on his face, seemingly from amusement, but she could read him very well, "I'll continue as if you said yes, my dear. The reason you are strapped here is so that I may do some....testing."
"What the hell do you mean by testing?" Her voice came to her finally, and she was pleased to find she sounded stronger. Her sudden confidence was cut short, unfortunately, as the man crossed the room to the right side. He casually walked over to a small table with a granite white surface directly next to it was a sink. After washing his hands, the man picked up a sharp syringe which contained a strange black liquid. Fester felt her heart pounding as he began looking for something else while he spoke.
"Well, I have been in this place a long time, and it has been, for lack of a better word, wretched. Fortunately, I think i can use you to finally get out. Now I'm not 100% sure, but I think if..." Fester listened until he started rambling to himself about some weird complicated words and... souls? She began looking for a way to get out, and tugged at her restaints hoping one would be loose.
"Hmmm?" The mans voice right next to her startled her and she quickly looked up at him. He was staring intently at her. Unease and vulnerability flooded her as she watched him bring his hand close to her face, " Humans are such fragile things. Ill have to use some of my magic to make sure you stay alive through my tests. Fester jerked away from his hand as best she could, the large hole in his palms werent the only thing freaking her out.
"What are you talking about? Where am I?" He pulled his hand away at her questions his eyes lighting up with curiousity once again.
"You don't know where you are? Intersting.....very interesting."
The way he said those words made Fester feel sick, especially, when he followed it by grabbing her restrained arm and began feelimg it with his hands. It was almost like her hand never seen a person before. He carefully felt the skin, muscle, and bone in her arm and hand. She tried to protest but everytime she tried he would pressed down with inhuman strength causing her to yelp in pain and writhe.
"Please.....ah!....Stop!" Fester had tried to plead with the man but was met with a rather painful jab to her wrist, "Please!....I-I DONT EVEN KNOW W-WHO YOU ARE!"
The mans eyes suddenly snapped up to lock with her own. She saw as his face twisted into a maniacal grin, and stiffened in fear. He went from looking calm and methodical to deranged and sadistic within seconds of her speaking. He snatched up the syringe in a movement so fast it eas impossible he was human. Deja Vu seemed to greet her like and old friend as he suddenly resembled the Thing from the dark a lot more now. Scared, hot tears streamed down her face as he stuck the needle in her arm, and began injesting the black fluid into her veins. She tried to struggle but he held her down with ease laughing the whole time. Agony washed over her withinh minutes, whatever he had injected into her was making her feel as though she was taking an acid bath. Pain semmed to drown her as she heard him begin speaking again.
" I see, you already forgot my name," she tried to speak but the anguish coursing through her body like a stampede only allowed her to make pitiful, agonized sounds. To her horror his grin grew listening to her, and she could almost see the malicious intent burning in his pinpricks, "Well, then it would seem I'll have to engrave it, permanently, into your very soul~"

Festering Foundation
Chapter one: part 2 Aiming her flashlight she knelt down in an attempt to move the shrubs away so she could better see the size of the hole, but she got to close to the edge in her excitement, and instead she landed on unstable ground which quickly gave way beneath her. *back to present* She had fallen? Had her sister fallen too? Is that why no one could find her? Fester tried to look around again, but the darkness was too much. "Frisk?" she called out but the darkness seemed to swallow up any sound she made. She fought to move, and with rigerious effort she found she could stand. Her body felt both unbearably heaving, and feather light at the same time. "Frisk-" "They aren't here, child." she was about to call out again, but was cut of by...a voice? No, not a voice. Nothing could possibly speak by making such gut wrenchingly inhuman noises, but...something had spoke, and she had understood its nightmarish language. "W-who's there?" she had meant to sound loud and tough, but the sound that left her was barely above a whisper and tremblingly pitiful. Did she really want to know who it was? "Do not worry, child," the noises spoke. She attempted to focus her eyes on where the sound was coming from, but immediately regretted it. The sight before her made her want to scream and run. A pale ghostly white face looked back at her from the dark. Its eyes were lifeless black pits in its head with small yellowish white pinpricks that seemed to float inside for pupils. Cracks, or gaping black lines ran from each eye in opposite directions up and down its face starting at its eyes, and radiating outwards. It had no nose, but its mouth....oh god....its mouth was stretched into the most twisted, evil, black, toothless grin that almost seemed to split its face in half with how large it was. Then there was its body, which was just a black oozing mass, and if it weren't for the slightly purple glow she would have thought it had no body as it was as pitch black as the dark itself. She stared at it in absolute horror for what felt like an eternity before she finally found her voice. "W-what are you?!" she hated how its grin seemed to get impossibly wider at her words, and before she could register its lightning fast movements it was standing before her. Closer than she would ever have wanted, and it towered over her small frame by at least a foot or two. Its sinister eyes bored into her own, and she could almost taste how amused it was with her utter terror. "My name...is Gaster," it screeched in its ghastly voice, " and you won't soon forget it, child."

Chapter one: part 1 It's so dark. Darker, darker, yet darker, something's wrong. Where was she? Who was she? The darkness seem to be consuming her, filling her mind, leaving no room for memories. She called for help... But nobody came. The darkness was blinding, it hurt just to attempt to look past it, or into it, trying to find something other than pitch black. And the silence...was deafening, the ringing produced by her ears was so loud in the dead silence that the dark seem to create. She couldn't move, couldn't even see her own body to know she had one to move. She felt numb. Maybe it was better to give up, to stop struggling, stop trying to remember. Maybe it was better to be content in the dark, to become one with it... No. She couldn't, something in her soul seemed to resonate, telling her she needed to fight. But why? She began to push the darkness from her mind, fighting to remember. It started off small, but she began to stumble upon memories. Her name...her name was Fester...she is 21... her parents...long dead, but... suddenly she gasps memories flood in like a damn breaking free. *Two days ago* " mmm..." she grumbled as another poke to her face disturbs her sleep. She peels her eyelids open momentarily blinded by the sunlight streaming in through the blinds of her bedroom window. As she regains her vision, she snorts at the sight before her. "Frisk? what the-" her 10-year old sister stands before her covered in paint. Frisk grins widely at her and begins signing. " I made you a surprise! you have been working so hard I wanted to thank you with a gift!" Frisk begins tugging her hand trying to get her to follow. Slinging the covers from her body, Fester gets up to follow her little sister through her messy room, then down the hallway of her tiny apartment to her office. "Surprise!" Frisk signs waving around jazz hands. Fester stares at the obvious fingerpainting that sits on her easel. It is the night sky painted in black and dark blue with tiny yellowish white dots mapping out her favorite constellation. The lion, which matches her zodiac sign, Leo. "Do you like it?" Frisk signs after first getting Festers attention by quickly tugging on her pajama shirt. Fester smiles brightly in response picking up her little sister in a hug. "I love it hun, thank you!" Frisk is beaming as Fester pulls away from her, and sets her back down. "Im glad!" Frisk signs as Fester suddenly becomes aware of something wet on her cheek, and after further examination, by touching her face, she finds that it is blue paint. Fester giggles looking down at her sister who is a total mess. "You need a bath, messy." Fester states. Frisk nods in agreement an rushes to their shared bathroom. * * * * * * * Fester had already cleaned her office, noting the small handprints that littered her desk. She then washed her face, and had begun making breakfast in the kitchen when Frisk finally emerged from the bathroom. Fester noticed her sister had put on her favorite outfit, a long sleeved blue and purple striped sweater dress, with blue jean shorts, black socks, and black tennis shoes. Fester had bought the outfit for her sister as a gift during the previous Christmas, and the small child had loved it. "What's for breakfast?" Frisk signs as she sat at the small dining table. "Bacon and eggs," Fester replies bring two plates of the aromatic food over to the table setting one in front of her sister and sets one in front of herself, "I thought that since its the weekend and we have nothing to do today, that we could go for a walk up the Ebott trails for a bit after breakfast. How does that sound?" Frisk freezes momentarily with a fork full of food half way to her mouth to deliberate for a second before finally nodding and stuffing her face. Fester grins at her sister cheerfully, and begins eating her food as well. Frisk finished before her as usual, and Fester threw in a quick joke that Frisk was more garbage disposal than human, to which her sister countered by sticking out her tongue. Fester continued to eat while her sister sat in front of the TV to watch something while Fester finished. Once Fester was done with her food she cleaned the dishes, and headed back to her room at the end of the hall to get ready for the day. She sighed as she stepped into her room, it was a disaster. Her tiny room had art supplies, clothes, and school work strewn about. Her matrass, which was situated on the floor in the corner of the room, looked as though someone had had a wrestling match on it. Closing her bedroom door she looked over herself in the full length mirror that hung on the back of it. Her cat-green eyes stared back at her framed by slightly distinguishable circles, brown eyebrows, and thick dark lashes. Her heart-shaped face, though pale like the rest of her, was almost completely clear of all blemishes, which she took a moment to admire, and haloed by her thick wavy reddish brown hair. Her short body was thicker than she would like, but her slightly larger than average breasts and full behind always made her feel confident. Fester turns from the mirror pealing her eyes from her form to hunt for clean clothes amongst the sea of laundry that currently spilled from her dresser on to the floor. It takes her ten minutes but she manages to finally find an outfit she deems worthy enough to wear. A dark blue half top with a green cartoon bow design on the front, highwaisted jean shorts, black thigh high socks with blue and green bows at the top, and a pair of brown hiking boots.Content with her clothes she quickly brushes her hair, and goes to collect her sister whose attention was still glued to the TV. "Ready to go?" Fester asks, looking expectantly at her little sister. Frisk nods and quickly shuts off the tv. She then quickly joins her sister at the front door, and together they walk out to begin the day. * * * * * It had already been about four hours but Fester was thoroughly enjoying the beautiful scenery, and didn't want to go home just yet. They were currently about halfway up mount Ebott. It was absolutely gorgeous, wild flowers of all colors were blooming everywhere, and the sun shone brightly through the trees into the small clearing they were relaxing in. Fester watched as Frisk ran around chasing butterflies through the flowers, and shuffled around through the tall blades of grass. Fester always enjoyed getting to spend peaceful days with her sister when neither of them had school, and Fester didn't have to work at either of the two part time jobs she had as an artist and a burger-flipper. Fester didn't mind having to work so much as long as it meant her sister had everything she needed to live a happy, healthy life. Fester laid down in the tall grass looking up at the passing clouds, she could almost forget all her worries during such a peaceful and relaxing time. She could forget her past, her parents, her demons, and just be in the moment. After a few minutes she realized it was well past lunch time and that her sister must be hungry. "Hey Frisk, you ready to head back?" no response, "Frisk?" Fester stood up noticing quickly that it was quiet.....too quiet. Panic set in rather quickly after that. Fester called for her sister, hoping that the girl would hear her and come running....but nobody came. Fester rushed about the clearing searching frantically for any signs of the small child, but there was nothing. She screamed, and cried hoping for something, anything to help her find the missing girl. Self-haterade and blame seemed to drown her. Why hadn't she been watching her? This was all her fault! After two hours of screaming her throat raw she finally came to her senses and called for search and rescue. She met up with police and the search team explaining what had happened, to which the team immediately began their search for the girl. Fester stayed with them to help them search till well past dark, but when no signs of the girl could be found the team suggested Fester return home while they continued to try and find Frisk. Fester protested not wanting to just leave while her sister could be lost somewhere in the dark possibly injured. However, the police insisted that she leave it to the professionals to find the girl, and escorted her home. Fester entered the small apartment her and her sister shared...had shared. No. She couldn't give up. She needed to have hope that Frisk would be returned home safe and sound. Fester paced about for most of the night unable to sleep in the empty apartment without knowing where her sister was. Morning came, slowly, and with it a call from search and rescue informing her that they had found nothing but would continue the search for another 24 hours. Fester thanked the team for helping her, but after hanging up she couldn't hold back the sobs that wrenched her body. Curling up on the sofa she cried herself into a restless sleep. * * * * * * * Fester woke up at around 7 that night. In her heartbroken state she had hoped to wake up to her sister watching tv in the living-room, and that the day before had just been a terrible nightmare. However, that wasn't the case, instead she woke up to a missed call from the police who said that the search team needed a break for the night, and that they would continue the search for her sister the next day. Fester felt her chest heave at the thought of no one looking for her sister. She couldn't allow that.Fester quickly grabbed a flashlight and headed out to search for her sister herself. After she finally made it back to the clearing where she had last seen Frisk, it was well past dark. She searched for a total of three hours before rage, stress, and desperation exploded from her in a blood curdling scream. She began kicking at pebbles under her feet and crying. This was all her fault. If she had been watching Frisk none of this would have happened. If she had just been a better sister. If she had just- Suddenly something caught her eye. In her fit Fester had been kicking at dirt when a few pebbles seemed to roll and fall down along with loose soil into what looked like a hole. The hole had a large amount of over growth over the top of it which made it nearly impossible to see.
