     uncharacteristic pep in her walk has some doing a double take at the usual reserved mikaelson heiress .      itâs almost excitement but not quite - more like a quiet contentment reserved strictly for the feeling of the two most important people in her life finally saying welcome home, hope .     we missed you ,     weâre glad youâre back with us .     it had been a long journey to get this far ,        one she wasnât sure was ever going to end in a way that didnât lead to a forever feeling of ache in her and the other twoâs chest .     hope loves landon ,     there is a part of her that always will and despite what she told lizzie she knows that their destinies are far too intertwined to simply not exist without the other .      josie - well ,      josie has always been a more subtle part of hope but no less important .     josie was the first person hope had felt connected to in ways that no one else could .      their darkness ,     their fears [ . . . ] josie saltzman was the first person hope truly trusted in a long time .     seeing them together that first night ,       hope would admit to herself it hurt .      but not in the way lizzie thought .     they were so happy together - so good .     it wasnât just them trying to fill a void left by her and penelope - maybe before ,     maybe a little bitterly ,     hope tried to convince herself that was it .     it wasnât .     she knows that now ,     and after everything she thought ,     well [ . . . ] everything was okay .     they were okay .
     she knows that their relationship is complicated ,      those months after malivore when everyone had forgotten her had helped her heal and she knows that not telling them was the biggest mistake she made by far .      the feelings they all share and both new and old ones she has had time to accept and move on from .     hope sometimes forgets that these things are a domino effect ,     and just because she had a head start doesnât mean that when those dominos fell they didnât get enough warning to move before they got crushed .     its when she hears the quiet voices coming from the twins bedroom that she slows then ,     heels soft as she rounds the corner and pauses because thatâs landons voice drifing from the cracked door and -  â   who knows , if she never showed up what would have been .   â     it hits like a physical blow to her chest and sheâs not even aware of her hand coming up to steady against the wall .     she canât breath ,     canât think past the overwhelming feeling in her gut .      she knows who she is - knows that what landon really meanât was :  if hope never came back from malivore what could we have been ?     happy .       hope knows the answer already .
