      “  i  won’t  take  it  out  !  i  swear.  ”  she  holds  her  hands  up  in  a  kind  of  surrender;  keeping  them  both  away  from  the  bag  resting  across  her  body.  it  held  NOTHING  but  her  camera.  her gun  was  hanging  VISIBLY  on  her  shoulder.  but  she  wasn’t  about  to  get  kicked  out  of  whatever  she  had  stumbled  across  by  filming  it  all  against  their  will.  despite  how  badly  she  loved  getting  new  stories  from  new  communities.  “  it’s  a  camera.  i  just  use  it  for  documentation.  that’s  ALL.  ” 

he observed her for a moment longer, perhaps too long than what deemed necessary. brows that had been knitted together, begin to relax, and he gestures the men — five of them — to lower their various weapons. what kind of business could a girl with a camera have in  his  side of town  ?  she looked as if the  ‘  welcoming party  ’ had threw her off her senses, as one would look when facing something unexpected. silly, he thought. it was the middle of the end of the world, one  should  be expecting guns to be held at one’s face. whatever, they way others chose to go about their lives / survive, didn’t concern him.

the house looks the same as it did from streetview when she’d pulled the address up, though the trees out front are a little bigger around and the grass is better maintained than it was three years ago when the car had made its rounds.   it’s a good pick, she’ll give him that—she probably wouldn’t have picked it out from any of the rest on the block if she didn’t know where to look in the first place.   the neighbourhood feels young and sleepy at the same time, branches of old trees building a scant canopy overhead that creates pockets of shadows all the way to the corner.

she rings the bell.   maybe she should have brought pizza.   they likely wouldn’t have opened the door to that any easier, but at least it could play peace offering.      @maelverde​

there's a reason as to why he made the decision to have various locations, and most — to not say all — were to avoid this moment : one where he didn’t expect anyone, and still, in the heart of the evening, heard the bell to his front door ringing. he had just dropped marcus back at his mom’s, but the guns were still stashed away  (  a rule followed carefully when the kid spent some days there  ). if seen from the outside, it could be taken as a sign of recklessness, in truth, it was that he trusted himself to be careful enough not to need them. hence, the secrecy with which he treated his home address . . . well, now he had to find a new home. great.

everything about the person standing on the other side of the door was unfamiliar, though the quality of the surveillance camera wasn’t the best.
