He looks so… small
I know this scene was set to the funny music and all, but this image is a small knife sinking slowly but deliberately into my heart. You ‘forgot,’ Teru? Focus & determination are some of his very greatest talents. Is he getting too good at pushing things he can’t quite deal with yet out of his mind?
I have every confidence that he will be fine, physically. He’s Teru. He’ll get everything cleaned up, and/or find a new place, but. Why, why why does he have to be the one to do all that? Why is Reigen the only person he can turn to here? Why are his parents not even an option, and why am I so goddamn mad at fictional characters that barely even exist in the fiction. Who exist as a passing mention and a single image in a flashback.
Did anything irreplaceable get destroyed? His knick-knacks on the little shelf look ok, which I’ve always headcanoned as the few small gifts he got from his parents, off wherever the fuck they are, placed carefully together on a shelf where he could see them often, remind himself that maybe they do care, deep down… Does he go and inspect them all, one by one? Clean away the smoke damage as best he can?
In the manga he just walks off alone, away from the school, into the night, which always left me wondering where, exactly, he went. A hotel, or hostel, I’d assumed. But Bones adding this scene leaving him standing there looking at his destroyed apartment with, apparently, nowhere else to go, is truly a punch to the gut
