Once again I come to vomit my thoughts about Nienna and Melkor, because I can't get enough of thinking about them.
I've already compared their dynamics to Van Helsing and Nosferatu. And now I need to compare them to Loki and Sigyn.
I don't know how much you all know about Norse mythology, but I am passionate about Norse mythology, almost all mythology, actually. And obviously, one of the gods I love the most in Norse mythology is Loki, the Trickster God.
After the events of the poem Lokasenna, the gods, enraged by the evils caused by Loki, go looking for him. And they actually find him in his hiding place.
As punishment for his actions, Loki's children with Sigyn are killed (remembering that his three children with Angrboda were already imprisoned) and he is imprisoned against a rock with the serpent's venom dripping on his face until the arrival of Ragnarök.
Sigyn stood by Loki's side until the bitter end, holding a bowl above his face to prevent the serpent's venom from dripping onto her beloved's face.
What could be more Melkor and Nienna than that?
“Before the gates of Valmar Melkor abased himself at the feet of Manwë and sued for pardon, vowing that if he might be made only the least of the free people of Valinor he would aid the Valar in all their works, and most of all in the healing of the many hurts that he had done to the world. And Nienna aided his prayer; but Mandos was silent.”
Just as Sigyn stood by Loki's side, I'll never get over Nienna begging for Melkor. All the anguish, all the grief, all the despair and search for forgiveness. Yes, I live through all the anguish that surrounds Melkor and Nienna.
Loki's chaining reminds me a lot of Melkor's chaining. This beautiful art, for example, defines well the similarities between the characters and my ideas.
