In quiet moments when peace feels sustainable, some (maybe masochistic) part of my psyche reaches for the tendrils of others’ pain.

She lets them brush along her fingertips, observes, grasps, braids them until they feel like her own—because they are.

Finding center is exquisite, a sunrise solace, a deep breath amid the chaos, a sign that I can hold and lovingly process more than I am or have.

So I reach. I feel. I hope, testing the tension, til the center trembles slightly then holds.

Metabolizing these heavy times demands energetic reciprocity. If we constantly doomscroll (receive, consume) without verbal, emotional, and/or physical release, the fear, rage, and grief will eat us alive—and that helps no one but the oppressor.

Keep what feeds you. Use what fuels you. Share what you’re able, but take care of yourself. Just know that indiscriminately clinging to what weighs you down isn’t an effective strategy when you’re already drowning.

I refuse to have darkness thrust upon me as daily the light more boldly returns. There is no power without empowerment. In revoking our belief in the validity and reality of their power, we diminish it. In so doing, we reclaim our right to empower those more deserving, to exert that energy toward a common goal rooted in justice and empathy for all.
