Hi guys! I’m getting a lot of asks about the new Tw*light book coming that’s apparently coming out. I know that for years I’ve made a lot of posts about the series for good fun, but I actually haven’t read any of the books since the last one came out in August 2008, when I was only 14. I never reread them.

It’s been literally 12 years, and in reality I don’t remember much about the books except major plot points.

As an adult, I’ve learned a lot about the problems in the series, and I can’t ignore them.

I won’t be giving Smeyer any money, even for a laugh.

However, with all the new hype, I would like to mention that the Quileute Tribe, who are taken from heavily for the series, is currently raising funds to move its school to higher grounds. The school and community are located in a tsunami zone on the Pacific coast, risking lives and access to their culture (via language learning, etc.).

I have been FREAKING OUT the past few weeks because I was stuck in the second step.

I got diagnosed with mild to moderate combined (hyperactive and impulsive) type ADHD last week.

I got some suggestions on how to work *with* my brain instead of against it and picked up a prescription, and both are doing WONDERS.

Ask for the help you think you might need. It’s worth it.

Personally I think the Laman and Lemuel comparison post was a bad analogy because it wasn't just "obey me already" that Lehi was telling them and it wasn't based on a dream. I mean, they beat up their younger brothers and tried to kill Nephi multiple times. They also didn't ask why, they just complained and didn't bother trying to get answers. The poster I think was going in with good intentions but it was a faulty analogy

A better analogy for me would be Sam. Because he had no good choices. When he followed, obeyed, and did as he believed was righteousness, he was beaten and threatened by his elder brothers (who should have loved and protected him!) if he did question and didn't have perfect faith then he'd be 'murmuring'... and despite being righteous and striving to be righteous even if he didn't always understand why... he is largely ignored from the narrative except to be compared to his brothers.

Metaphors, similes and analogies are like lamp posts, in that they shed light in just a certain range. Within that small circle of light, they can be illuminating and increase understanding. But if we try to stretch the comparison beyond that small range, they become increasingly murky and questionable in value.

Do I like queer people being associated with the villains in the Book of Mormon? Not especially, but I thought the comparison was a good one as far it went, that LGBTQ+ people start off being told we’re not gonna be good enough for the Church, and blind obedience is presented as our only hope. 

I also understand why you’d liken us to Sam. We’re basically ignored as long as we’re doing what we’re supposed to. However we still aren’t made leaders nor given the full understanding about our position. And we get abused by those who think we’re stooges and should stand up for ourselves. But if we speak up and have a different view from the leaders or ask questions, we get lumped in with troublemakers even if we’re doing our best and being what we’re told to be.

Okay so I just got off the phone with them. I talked to a trans girl named Aurora & she was super helpful! She gave me a few doctors to talk to & encouraged me to seek therapy instead of just rushing to get my pills. She literally found a trans friendly therapist in my town & I would definitely recommend giving them a call!

Your identities don’t contradict each other, and are not “just internalised homophobia”. It’s okay if you want relationships that are sexual but not romantic - it doesn’t make you predatory. It’s okay if you want relationships that are romantic but not sexual - it doesn’t mean you’re “just scared”. It’s okay if you want relationships that are neither sexual nor romantic.

It’s okay if you are on the aro/ace spectrums and do feel attraction but rarely, only under certain circumstances, or if it fluctuates/fades.

Your aspec identity doesn’t diminish your lesbian identity and vice versa.

•Lesbians who are in/want QPRs

Wanting QPRs but not romantic relationships doesn’t mean you’re less of a lesbian. A QPR is an equally valid type of relationship.

Your identities and experiences are valid. It’s okay if you feel like your experiences as a lesbian and as [insert other identity here] are inextricable from one another - you shouldn’t feel like you have to leave one part of your identity at the door today, or at any time when you’re talking about your experiences.

Ok but Jeffery R Holland just gave a very good talk. If you're looking for an uplifting talk that gives me at least hope for a more queer future of the church than that's a good one.

He also goes off about some very important things and it's worth it to hear a Prophet the world that all of the violence of hunger, prejudice, and all bad things are bad and is Not of God and must be stopped.
