do you ever see something and just. get hit with the most visceral and distilled emotions over the nature of humanity
this note was inside the only copy of the qur'an we have in my school's library. this man, one year out from 9/11, one of the worst times to be muslim in america to date, decided to donate a copy of the qur'an to a school library in hopes that it would make people understand each other better and stop hating each other. doesn't that reach into your chest and twist?? doesn't that make your heart ache? is humanity doomed if someone can do something so small and meaningful and kind while experiencing some of the worst hatred the world has to offer?
@elodieunderglass Massive continuity of...goslings?

Girl…those are not all your children. You need to stop taking those things.
thinking about this bit from an article by Ann Druyan in 2003:
“When my husband died, because he was so famous and known for not being a believer, many people would come up to me – it still sometimes happens – and ask me if Carl changed at the end and converted to a belief in an afterlife. They also frequently ask me if I think I will see him again. Carl faced his death with unflagging courage and never sought refuge in illusions. The tragedy was that we knew we would never see each other again. I don’t ever expect to be reunited with Carl. But the great thing is that when we were together, for nearly twenty years, we lived with a vivid appreciation of how brief and precious life is. We never trivialized the meaning of death by pretending it was anything other than a final parting. Every single moment that we were alive and we were together was miraculous – not miraculous in the sense of inexplicable or supernatural. We knew we were beneficiaries of chance… That pure chance could be so generous and so kind… That we could find each other, as Carl wrote so beautifully in Cosmos, you know, in the vastness of space and the immensity of time… That we could be together for twenty years. That is something which sustains me and it’s much more meaningful… The way he treated me and the way I treated him, the way we took care of each other and our family, while he lived.
That is so much more important than the idea I will see him someday.
I don’t think I’ll ever see Carl again. But I saw him. We saw each other. We found each other in the cosmos, and that was wonderful.”
start a prayer journal, stretch your hips every day, drink fresh pineapple juice, herbal teas with honey, apply oils to your skin and hair, take lavender baths, sleep naked on 100% cotton sheets, read under the sun.
Always serve your future self ✨🍸
No one is watching you as much as you think they are. No one cares if you're biking alone, playing basketball by yourself, or sitting by a river with a blanket and a book. What actually matters is how those things make you feel. Do they bring you peace? Do they make you happy? That’s what counts. Not some random stranger’s opinion that won’t even last ten seconds. think again
And even if they are watching you, you aren’t that important to them or their day and they will simply move on and go back to focusing on their own endeavors. Don’t let the momentary eyes of others prevent you from living your life.

Whatever you do, keep on moving. Lack of action will have you going down into mental spirals that will cause confusion, anxiety, and depression. Regardless of how things may appear like in the moment or what fears may be clouding your mind, you have to keep moving. Be mindful of the present, and focus on the things you can change today, not on what could happen tomorrow. Do not become paralyzed, because more often than not, things tend to end up being much better in the end than we previously thought possible.
ur tellin me a strawberry pounded this cake
Obsessed with beautiful things, feelings, smells, language, sounds because that is all i have to remind me what it is to be fully alive. I can’t allow myself to miss out in what life has to offer!!! I need to be awake for it, because one day i will look back at the life that i was given and know that I loved it fully even in my grief.
I'm 23 years old and I have no idea what I'm going to do with the rest of my life……… and I'm fine with that
but i do have a coffee order in mind
I was reading one of my childhood diaries the other day and there was a whole paragraph saying how hopeful I was that my writing will help the archeologists in the far future. Then it proceeded to describe my lunch that day and how my dog was probably secretly able to talk.
#it IS of historical value#children's experiences are underrepresented in historical sources#it doesn't need well written or profound to be of historical value#comic#funny#art
there is a fucking statue of a kid who lived sometime in the 1200s, around 800 fucking years ago, because we have pieces of his homework that he doodled on while learning how to write. this is one of his drawings:
when I was googling him (because I couldn't remember his name), I stumbled across this twitter thread about him, which includes a different doodle by an italian boy in the 1400s of knights besieging a castle:
It's at the back of one of his schoolbooks for learning Latin.
ALL WE KNOW OF THESE KIDS IS STUFF THEY DREW WHILE THEY WERE BORED AND IT'S STILL HISTORICALLY IMPORTANT.
stepped on a plum (overripe plum) (barefoot) it was on the driveway got out of the car and accidentally (didn't know it was there) stepped on the plum (warm) (on the ground) (it had fallen from the tree) barefoot (no shoes) wearing long pants (too long) (need to hem them) plum viscera got on them (the pants) unexpected plum on the driveway (hot plum) (97 degrees out) already super hungover (throwing up all morning) (should not have been driving at all) and I stepped out of the car (black car) (97 degrees out) and onto the plum (unexpected) (didn't know the plum was there) and it burst (plum nightmare on my only good pair of sweatpants) still we find ways to keep ourselves going from day to day
