a friendly reminder that microaggressions against asians can also look like this:

pretending to gag at asian food

pretending to be weirded out by asian customs and cultures

excusing cultural appropriation (often through ignoring the stories of asians who have been mocked for wearing their ethnic dress while praising a white person for doing so)

not trying to learn how to pronounce an asian person's ethnic name correctly, or asking, "can i call you by something else?"

adopting an asian name for the ~aesthetic~

using the words "oriental" and "exotic" to describe asian people, particular asian women

ignoring the experiences and stories of south, southeast, and central asians

making sweeping assumptions about asian countries (including their political, historical and cultural landscape)

treating the entire asian community as a monolith and ignoring the fact that the experiences of asian nationals are remarkably different from the asian diaspora/migrant community

co-opting asian aesthetics into creative media without acknowledging their history

for me tender is a very loaded word like it’s quite different from softness…softness is clean and light like cotton…tenderness is softness in the face of pain and shame it’s like that one quote “ I don’t want your love unless you know i am repulsive,and love me even as you know it”… softness is a form of innocence and tenderness is a form of grace…a lightness that can only be present as a result of time/experience and requires memory as a binding force

few things to note: 

1. i basically typed out what i saw first thing when the article was public and people on twt were talking about it, so there will have been updates that i mightve missed 

2. a clarification from the person who translated the article states that the sexual jokes were not directed at her, but she was uncomfortable being in mingyu (and his friends)’s presence when he would tell them. aside from that, the bullying (calling her out specifically) was 100% directed at her.
