Loaded up the For The Realm save again to do some work on it and did I instead just procrastinate...yes.
I made a character based on my BG3 character that I first beat honor mode with, Oliver. He has retired and is living a quiet life as an outdoorsy worker.
He can be forgetful after his brain worm encounter, but he saved the world from imminent squid destruction so I think he earned retirement.

As a result, the site owner has opened a Patreon so that the community can help cover the costs of keeping us online.
Important clarification:
The NRaas mods are NEVER going to be paywalled.
The project will remain open-source and free for everyone. Donations are optional.
These mods are still in active development!
The site and mods have been maintained by Chain_Reaction since Twallan's retirement, providing countless updates and support. Lots of cool stuff over there if you haven't updated in a hot minute.
There is no pressure to donate if your situation does not allow for it. Thank you for the consideration!
Long post ahead with information on the situation and some incentives for reaching membership goals.
If you've had some trouble accessing the site over the past week or so:
The situation is directly caused by the greed and encroachment of something we’re all uncomfortably familiar with: AI companies and the companies investing in them (of simmer relevance, that includes EA and Krafton (InZoi)).
NRaas is not the first nor will it be the last to be affected. Website servers already suffer from bots trawling and scraping their content – including your content that you write and share just about anywhere. Now they’re being bought off entirely.
Archives and file-hosting are at high risk. Myrient is a recent example of an archive that went offline for this very reason.
It can feel a bit grim, but I want to assure you that the burden isn't yours to bear as an individual. As a community, it's actually quite easy to become hostile - and more important, unprofitable - to these invasive species as it were.
The past 26 years of modding and storytelling was OVERWHELMINGLY built upon free software, non-profit websites, and shared resources. A few unscrupulous paywallers and corporate greed isn't going to rewrite that history. Greed is the minority - but it does try to eat everything in its path.
That's all I ask - if you enjoy the fruits of The Sims community or enjoy being a part of it, make it just a little more inconvenient to swallow us.
Do not tolerate GenAI in our community spaces.
Do not support EA or Krafton. Let obscurity and irrelevancy devour them.
Do participate in the community wherever you think you'd find a little piece of purpose - make a blog for your stories, come chat with us in the Chatterbox forum at NRaas, make your first mod.
Lastly:
In a separate post, I'll be posting some CC incentives that will be released as milestones are reached. This content will not be paywalled - it will be posted for free as thanks to the community.

I finally started one of the biggest "fixes" for the For The Realm Save. Logan's household.

Like a zillion kids yall. I wanted him to be the father of all werewolves in town and he has certainly been trying to accomplish that. I fixed him first, but realized that I am missing the skin I used for his werewolf form so before I left the game I grabbed some pictures.
Cause I had to, I went and found an old screenshot from when I first placed him in the challenge as a teen.
He is now a grumpy old aging werewolf.
Meanwhile the rest of the family...
I have more work to do. Now to go see if I can find that skin.

I ended up loading up my old For the Realm save, yes I still have that save BTW it just still needs a lot of love. I started touching it up a while ago and I think I want to work on it for a while. I need to bring that back I miss it.
The reblog chain is one of the things that makes Tumblr unlike anywhere else. All the notes on reblogs are attributed to the original post, no matter which branch people actually liked or reblogged. We want to keep encouraging conversations, and give contributors the recognition they deserve.
Soon, you'll be able to like, reblog, or reply to any part of a reblog chain, and that note will go to that reblog's author. Each reblog will have its own counts, instead of one aggregated number from every version of the post. And yes, you’ll be able to like multiple posts in one chain.
If a reblog doesn't add anything, the love flows up to the last person in the chain who did. Your post doesn't lose notes just because people spread it quietly.
Past notes will stay on the original post — we're only changing what happens from here on out. Retroactively re-attributing all of them would be... a lot.

Seriously, this is a tumblr-killer feature. This breaks the most fundamental way tumblr is different from any other social network. This makes tumblr just another blueskytwitterthreads. Or worse: An unfederated mastodon clone.
Please, mutuals, post about this, comment and reblog the original post (while you still can without making it your own quote-post). I don't know if staff is looking or if the feedback would matter, but seriously, this is a terrible change that would kill tumblr as we know it. Please, don't roll it out.
look, I can endure any kind of UI changes that are supposed to help tumblr-rookies to understand how this works. They may be a nuisance, but that's ok, we have x-kit or we can get used to buttons being here or there.
But this. This changes the data architecture. This changes the SINGLE THING that makes tumblr the "... yes and" website. This KILLS THE COLLABORATIVE POSTING THAT MAKES THIS SITE DIFFERENT FROM ALL THE OTHER MEDIA PLATFORMS.
Tumblr has explicitly said in the past that they do not look at comments on their updates posts. You have to PUT IN A SUPPORT TICKET AND SELECT FEEDBACK FROM THE DROPDOWN

Tried to load up my Sims game and it just went to a black screen. I have changed nothing with it, just decided that it wasn't going to load I guess.

Yeah it’s a pain getting it going. I remember setting it up on my new PC, and it taking almost two days, but it was well worth it, imo!
Plus, as with any Sims game, the real hell doesn’t begin until you turn it on, create your sim, build their house, exit the game several times to download some CC you realized you needed, then repeat that cycle until the day you die.
Just reblogging this because it has been my limbo with this game for the last few months. Load it up. Poke around in CAS. Poke around in building. Close game. Download CC. Repeat next time I load it up. I need to just play for a bit, it normally inspires me.
With DXVK and S3SS living their high days, older Sims 3 installment guides are rapidly starting to become outdated. So here's a brand new and up-to-date step-by-step guide to go through when you do a fresh install of your game that will help you get the best performance you could possibly imagine for this old and laggy gem of a game.
Have Sims 3 installed, but is it performing abhorrently? I highly recommend a fresh install. You don't have to delete your saves or mods. Just get yourself a fresh bin to work with by uninstalling, going into your program files The Sims 3 folder and deleting any remnant files still in there. Then follow my guide!
All of the steps to follow are below the line ->
Step 1: install your game through your respected platform.
Just follow the regular steps and install the game without adding any other stuff yet whatsoever.
(I personally have a legit copy of the Sims 3 on Steam. If you use another app and have any questions, I'll probably not be able to help you.)
Step 2: run the game once through the official launcher. Once you get to the main menu, you can quit again.
It is very important you run your game through the original launcher at least once after installing it. Not doing so can cause problems with programs like CC magic. You only need to do it the first time. After that, we'll be skipping the launcher entirely.
Step 3: Create a short cut of TS3W.exe on your desktop.
You'll be skipping the launcher from now on. This helps with performance and it starts up your game much faster. It is also important to do this because of DXVK.
You can find TS3W.exe in your bin folder. For me (Steam version) it's in this location:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Sims 3\Game\Bin
Right click TS3W.exe, click 'show more options' and choose 'create a shortcut'. Place this shortcut on your desktop and Run Sims 3 from there from now on.
Step 4: Run the GPU Add-on Support patcher
You can find this patcher here. It is essential to run this because Sims will otherwise not recognize your graphics card unless it's over 10 years old. This patcher helps to get your GPU recognized.
The patcher will create a new Graphicsrules.sgr and new Graphicscards.sgr for you in your bin folder. After installing this, you can move the ones that have _old behind them somewhere else (or delete them).
P.S.: if you pirate your game you'll have to do this manually, there's guides online for it but since I have a legit copy I can't help you here.
Step 5: Install DXVK
Make sure you follow this guide by Nornite and do every single step. Don't skip anything!
I'd say DXVK is pretty essential nowadays, especially if you have a modern graphics card with 6GB of VRAM or higher. It'll greatly help to keep your game stable and can prevent a lot of crashes. The way Dxvk works, is that it loads textures through your VRAM instead of your RAM. Especially when you use a lot of CC or HD textures, this will make a huge difference for your RAM usage. Sims 3 can only use 4GB of RAM at once and will start crashing once you hit the 3GB mark in your task manager. With DXVK, you will use a lot less RAM and it'll take much longer for your game to reach this hard cap.
When not to install DXVK: if you have a shitty GPU (like an integrated graphics card on a laptop, or one with 4GB of VRAM or less).
Step 5: Start up the game
Use your new desktop shortcut that also has 'run as administrator' permissions now if you followed the DXVK guide properly.
Step 6: set up all your settings through the ingame options menu
The best graphics settings for you will highly depend on what computer you're using. But there are some things you should always turn off because they negatively affect performance. I will share my (relevant) settings with you (I use a custom UI so your screen style will look a little different from mine). Click on the images to enlarge them so you can read them:
Things of note about these settings:
I recommend you play in windowed mode, especially if you plan to use ReShade. Playing fullscreen is possible, but it does make Reshade presets behave differently in your game. I will include a step in this guide that you can follow to play windowed borderless. So, when you plan to do this: make sure you set the resolution to your display resolution.
Enable object hiding helps with performance. Advanced rendering is essential because otherwise your game looks like absolute shit.
Set your High Detail Lots to any value between 2 and 4. Don't go lower or higher, because you'll get rendering issues that lag out your game.
All other graphics settings can be set to your heart's desire. I'd say start with the highest settings and only go down if you notice your frames per second are bad.
Disable shop mode and lessons and fully disable memories or use this mod to severly limit them. Disable interactive loading screens as well. These are all performance eaters. Interactive loading screen also causes crashes. Memories also don't do anything for your sim, it's just a scrap book with no in-game effects.
Disable any online mode feature. This also lags out your game. Unless you really want to use these features it's best to just play fully offline.
Save your settings, close the game again.
Step 7: Install Sims 3 Settings Setter
This is the most recent magic genie that Sims 3 was blessed with. Especially combined with DXVK it is a life changer. Installing it is simple. You download the most recent version here and drop the .asi file in your bin. Also grab 'wininet.dll' from here and drop that one in your bin too.
Start up your game and load up a save. Once you're inside your save, you press 'insert' to open up the menu for Sims 3 Settings Setter. Go to the 'patches' tab and enable what you like. These are my enabled patches and they all work really well for me, but feel free to experiment with them to find your own performance sweet spot:
Only enable uncompressed textures if you have a GPU with at least 8gb of VRAM. My game will use over 6gb of VRAM easily with this enabled, so you've been warned.
Once you have everything you desire enabled, press 'file' in the top left corner and click 'save settings'.
Step 7.5: if you're playing windowed mode: go into the Other/QoL tab and enable 'Borderless Window'. Set it to 'Full Screen'.
Save your settings and close your game again. No need to save the game you entered for this unless you want to.
Step 8: Install Nraas Errortrap, MasterController and Overwatch
These 3 mods by Nraas are pretty much essential to keep your game from breaking down in the long run. You can download the mods here. Have you never installed a mod for Sims 3 before? Here's a guide (skip the part about Sims3pack and go straight to the part where it explains how to install .package mods).
That's it! You can now play The Sims 3 and it'll be as smooth and stable as it'll ever be. From here on, you can stock your game with more mods and CC (check out my mods masterlist!), or you can install Reshade (here's a guide).
Some important things to keep in mind while playing:
Clean up your game regularly. You can easily do this by using Regul Save Cleaner.
When you install a new mod or update/change Sims 3 Settings Setter, always restart and clear your caches.
Use CC Magic for installing CC, because it merges your files and this really helps with performance. Here's a handy guide on how to use it. Don't put your script mods in here, just your CC.
If you plan to travel to vacation destinations in the EP World Adventures, Nraas Traveler is a must to prevent most of the bugs and crashes that happen in this expansion.
Always keep in mind: mods and corrupt CC can still break your game, make it laggy or unplayable. Always be mindful of the mods you add, so you can always trace any issues you're having back to the mod causing it. I highly recommend not downloading a ton of mods in one session, but adding them step by step and see what they do to your games performance.
Use 'Reset the entire town' from Nraas MasterController at least every other sim week. It'll help clear up any lag that happens because of NPC sims getting themselves stuck routing or annoying stuff like that.
Got a slow CAS? Use Nraas MasterController Compact mode! (Make sure you have the Nraas MasterController Integration module installed).
Navigate to NRaas > MasterController > Settings > CAS.
Set the following to True:
Show in Compact Form: Accessories
Show in Compact Form: Clothing
Show in Compact Form: Hats
I just did a full PC rebuild this year for the first time in like 10 years so that means I had to get the Sims 3 stable again. I got it running pretty fast but it was still not as stable as I would like so I wasn't playing it too much.
I hadn't gotten around to trying S3SS and this guide got everything set up super easy. My game does feel a lot smoother now.

I can try, though that was made so long ago I am pretty sure I don't even have all the CC I used for that build anymore. It was before I redid my CC and I purged and rebuilt everything since then. I normally don't delete lots since I will still place the builds and redecorate but it probably won't look the same anymore even for me >.<
Not sure if its still worth it since I can't even tell you where I got the CC from at this point.

Howdy, I just wanted to say that I adore your sims 3 content and your new series is really refreshing. Around the beginning of the year you said you wanted to bring "For the Realm" back. Any updates for that? I know it's been a real pain with all the broken cc. If the save is unsalvageable do you think you'll start a new similar series? Perhaps recreate some of the most recognizable FTR sims as townies?
I have to bunker down and do some serious building edits to that world and I haven't been in the mood for long building sessions lately. Even after building everything back up I have to "fix" the relationships cause I created a fresh version of the world and moved everyone over so the relationships are also broken >.< and family is no longer family etc.
Starting a similar but new challenge is an idea, I would have to think on that. I do love playing the game in a more fantasy like setting and I have been in an "off" time with the sims lately. I go through phases where I am obsessed and then I kinda loose interest for a while until I get obsessed all over again. Maybe playing in a more fantasy style will bring back my spark.
Heyy can you share what sliders do you use on your sims?
So my sliders are one of the few things that when I redid my CC a while back I just pulled over the big combined package file so I don't actually know all the individual sliders that I have anymore.
To be fair, my sims a quite basic and I haven't downloaded new sliders for a very long time, hence why I just pulled them all over and didn't start from scratch again since I had more sliders than I even use now.
That being said I always recommend checking out @oneeuromutt who has a really good comprehensive slider list separated by location

If you want to know some of my favorites personally that I know I use a lot:
Head size (I have always thought that the sims heads are bit too large), Head Shape, Jawline Height/Rotate/Soften, Chin to Neck Line, Eye Length/Stretch/Width, Neck width,
And I also have the eye mesh that allows sliders to manipulate the eyes so the Iris size and Pupil shapes are another that I use frequently.
There is also the ones that are for accessories like the Glasses Sliders
I have more but those are certainly my top used, my sims are pretty basic looking so I don't always use some of the others as often. All these are linked on that master list plus a lot more that I don't have but you might be interested in so I would give it a look.
Someone asked a bit ago if I could upload my ReShade Presets and I am keeping my promise. Sorry it took some time, I have been a little busy lately and I thought I should actually update my ReShade first...though I don't actually know if that matters.
If it does my ReShade is version 6.5.1
I wanted ReShade to enhance the game a bit and make it a little more vibrant and bright without deviating too far away from the feel of the game.
If you want an idea of what the preset looks like, I am going to do a shameless plug here, you can check out my sims videos on YouTube I am currently trying to complete every lifetime wish and I play with these presets active all the time.

I use Reshade currently. I switched when there was some malware stuff around GShade at the time, though I think that has been resolved now? (Don't quote me on that)
They are personal settings that I created cause I like to mostly improve the look of the game without changing everything completely. I haven't shared them really, but I should...I should probably update Reshade though too cause to be honest I never do and I am sure my version is super outdated. Let me look into exporting.
Hey I love watching your videos on YouTube, especially the Every Lifetime Wish series and I was watching your newest one with the Monster Maker wish and I was wondering if you ever thought bout uploading the shells of your builds that u make for the series. You always pick some of the more interesting lot sizes to make great builds that fit the story you create for your sims and I just wanted to see if you would be down to share some of the lots?

That build was actually a quick one that I threw together cause I wanted to upgrade to a bigger space. I don't even have that one saved to my library, since it was made in the middle of the gameplay.
