Summer Trials...

Our AC unit is finally fixed! It only took the complex 21 days to fix it. And it took two angry visits to the office to get window units in place to keep us cool in our own home. And on that second visit, the leasing consultant had the fucking nerve to get mad at us, the residents who pay her salary and were enduring 80+ degree rooms at night. Because we were bothering her in her climate controlled office. I’m not one to wish anyone to be fired, but I sent many complaints about this woman’s lack of compassion and concern for the residents. After weeks of being ignored, management got back to us apologizing profusely for their error.

I’m tired, man, the start of summer has been me demanding basic amenities to our sorry excuse of an office rep.

I’m alive! Been crazy month, I quit my job for another one that fell through days before I was supposed to start. So I’ve been scrambling online looking for other job opportunities. Have some leads, at least. Don’t get me started on our apartment woes. AC broke a week ago, and our dryer has been out of commission for half a month now. The repair guys tried to fix the unit Thursday, and said their supervisor needs to look into it, which hasn’t happen. I sincerely doubt they’ll get to fixing it when our lease is up, knowing their track record, so we’ll be looking for ways to beat the Atlanta heat.

Investigators trying to determine if the arson against the black LGBT center was hate-motivated.

Last week in Dallas, Texas, an LGBTQ center that primarily serves Black gay and bi men and transgender women suffered fire damage in an intentional arson attack.

Abounding Prosperity was broken into on Friday morning, and someone set a fire using an accelerant. A back office was destroyed and the rest of the center had smoke damage.

The center, which operates out of a renovated home, provides counseling, medical, and STD prevention services to an estimated 2,000 people each year and seeks to address health, social, and economic disparities affecting queer black men. Its services are on hold while the staff deals with the fire damage.

One of its clients, Marcus Simpson, has been relying on Abounding Prosperity since he was a teenager. Whoever committed the arson is “a monster,” he told WFAA. “I mean, to see them do something like this in a small community that’s trying to help build the community, it’s sad.”

Although authorities are unsure of the arsonist’s motives, Abounding Prosperity CEO Kirk Myers told the station he believes the perpetrator wanted to intimidate the people the center serves. “You know where my mind immediately goes is that the political climate in the world we’re living in today is creating an atmosphere where this sort of activity could be acceptable in someone’s mind,” Myers said.
