#Dili #timor #leste ceases to surprise me. This statue is of Nicolau dos Reis Lobato, who was a politician and soldier. Story about him later. The astonishing part is that this statue is made by the #northkorea. Apparently; building statues for #African and new countries has been a big business for them since a long times and they have earned millions of #usdollars for a long time. More about the great soldier here - Historic statue Hero In Dili, East Timor Nicolau dos Reis Lobato (24 May 1946 – 31 December 1978) was an East-Timorese politician and national hero. He was born in 1946 in Soibada, Portuguese Timor. Lobato was prime minister of East Timor from 28 November to 7 December 1975. Upon the arrival of the Indonesian military Lobato, along with other key Fretilin leaders, fled into the Timorese hinterland to fight against the occupying forces. On the final day of 1978 Lobato was ambushed by Indonesian special forcesled by Lieutenant Prabowo Subianto (later son-in-law of President Suharto). He was killed after being shot in the stomach, and his body was brought to Dili to be inspected by Indonesian press. Nicolau Lobato was made an East Timorese national hero. You know when the #airport of the #capital #city is almost non existent and the main building has #tin #roof, it's a new country. And yes it is. It's #timorleste, one of the youngest country in the world. #timorleste came into existence in 2002 after being under #Portuguese rule till 1975 and then #Indonesian thereafter till their independence. Not much is known or found on the internet about this place, but it's worth a visit for people who seek non touristy destinations. After a brief hiccup at the #Bali airport where I was asked to present a letter of authorisation by the Atal consulate, the information of which is non existent till you reach the ticket counter. According to the internet there is nothing here, no ATMs, no money exchange, no infrastructure etc etc. Which is all false. It's a revelation, clean roads, planned layout. Food options include #chinese, #american, #turkish, #european and so on. (at Dili)

The #umbrella #boys of #jakarta. Everybody wants to go out and soak in the rain, especially as kids. These young kids have made it into good pocket money making idea. It's thriving business for the kids around #offices, #malls, #train and #bus stations. They come out in huge numbers and offer their uniques services of escorting people who don't have umbrellas from one place to another. They would give the umbrella to people and walk without one in the rain.
