COMING NOV 22 - CATS KNOW THINGS
CATS KNOW THINGS is a light-hearted game meant to tell a humorous story of intrigue, all while pretending to be a very nosy cat.
But you are no ordinary cat.
You are a very special feline who, through some magic you cannot explain, can communicate with your human, an individual who wishes to make their mark in society by any means necessary. The two of you decide to start a society page, (a very fancy type of tabloid newspaper dedicated to a particular location) revealing the glitz, glamour, and inner turmoil of the town’s most notable individuals.
As the cat you will travel across town, using your stealth and wiles to listen in on the most intimate conversations and encounters. At the end of the day you return to your human to relay to them all the town’s salacious gossip for the society page. The goal is to prepare 6-8 items for the newspaper before your human sends them to the presses for the week.

The two of you decide to start a society page, (a very fancy type of tabloid newspaper dedicated to a particular location) revealing the glitz, glamour, and inner turmoil of the town’s most notable individuals.
This game , inspired by Natsume Sōseki's I Am a Cat, will be available on our Itch.io store November 22!! In the meantime, bookmark our page!
Tumblr 200-Word RPGs 2023
Last November, we did an informal game jam for folks who wanted to write something for Writing Month, but would prefer to write fewer than fifty thousand words of it. You can find the complete list of participants for that event in this post here. There's also an off-Tumblr archive of entries whose authors gave permission for them to be preserved here, if any of those links turn out to be broken.
Last year's collaboration went over well enough that I thought we might dust it off again this year. To be clear, this is just for fun – it's not a curated jam, and nobody's judging winners or handing out prizes..
If you'd like to throw your hat in, just follow these steps:
Step 1: If you're unfamiliar with 200-word RPGs, read a bunch of last year's entries (linked above) or browse the 200 Word RPG Challege archives at https://200wordrpg.github.io/ to get your brain-meats properly configured.
Step 2: Write your own 200-word RPG. If you're not sure whether you have 200 words or not (and with RPGs it can genuinely be difficult to tell!), you can use the word counter at https://200wordrpg.github.io/wordcount to check.
Step 3: Reblog this post and append your 200-word RPG.
Step 4 (optional): Please indicate in your post whether you're okay with having your 200-word RPG archived off-site for posterity – if you don't say anything one way or the other, I'll assume the answer is "no".
(As before, as a courtesy to anyone who's creeping the notes, please restrict non-200-word-RPG commentary to replies and tags until November 2023 is over – let's make the actual games easy to find!)
CATS KNOW THINGS
(Yes, this game can be posted off-site!)
This game requires two players - two cats of any breed, a timer and 6d6 for each player. If you want, also have something to record the conversations with (pen and paper, voice recorder, etc) for posterity.
Take the time to create your cats. Assign six points over three stats - Charisma, Persuasion, and Intimidation.
Charisma is about telling a story with flair and panache.
Persuasion is about making the listener believe in the story.
Intimidation is about keeping the listener's attention (by any means necessary).
The first cat starts a story - it can be about other cats or the humans they are living with. Start with a Charisma roll - for every success (4-5-6), the cat can tell their story for 30 seconds without being interrupted. Otherwise, the other cat can interrupt their story. If this happens, the other cat can roll for persuasion while the storyteller cat rolls for Intimidation. Highest roll wins. If the storyteller wins, they can keep telling their story for another minute. If the listener wins, they can start their own story.
The game ends when one cat is able to triumphantly finish their story in it's entirety.

4 WALLS, 4 DOORS, 4 POSSIBILITIES
(yes, it's okay to add it off-site!!)
You are a individual who finds themselves in room alone, with stark white walls but each wall has a door of a different colour - Red, Blue, Yellow, and Green.
The Red door represents an opportunity to pursue a lost love or to right a wrong related to a romantic relationship.
The Blue Door represents family - the opportunity to reconnect with a loved one you are related to that you are somehow estranged with or has long passed away.
The Yellow Door represents an memory that makes you happy. If you go through this door, you will be able to relive an event that changed your life in a positive way.
The Green Door represents the opportunity to take up a past chance at prosperity.
First, describe how you ended up in the room (a dream, white truck of doom, etc). Then, you may choose to go through one or all of the doors. Describe in detail what and/or who you are returning to and why. Explain everything that happens in detail and how it makes you feel? Is the experience positive or negative? Did you make the right choice?
The game ends when the player chooses a door (pleased with their choice) or chooses to leave all possibilities behind.

Abandon Hope Dev Log #5: You know what's scary? Busy Work Weeks!
I'll be honest - work has been very busy this past week so writing for the main draft is paused for now. More suggestions have been received by a beta reader so we are taking the time to digest the information before tweaking the main game. But that doesn't mean there hasn't been workings going on in the cursed town of Hope...
Walking Alone in the Dark has been sent for layout design!
Walking Alone in the Dark, a solo journaling rpg that takes place in the Abandon Hope universe has been edited by a professional and has now been sent to a graphic designer for layout! As soon as it's done and is looked over, we'll announce firm release date. Though, we should apologize for not being able to release the game by Halloween!
Another Solo RPG is in the Works!
We can't talk too much about it now, but another solo journaling RPG is in the works. We're hoping to release it early next year, in time for the creator's birthday! Stay tuned for more details!
Our Ko-fi will have it's grand opening November 1st!
