biography.
Malia was born into a very happy family as an only child. Their family resided in the suburbs of Brighton, her mother a midwife and her father a professor. The little girl was very much into figure skating and gymnastics (mostly because she loved the cute outfits and has a lot of fun with her friends). She did OK at school (not good but not bad) and had loads of friends. She hardly ever got into trouble and enjoyed a great relationship with her parents. All sunshine and rainbows, really!
At 15, she got into a relationship with W/C. They were together for a few years but eventually drifted apart. There were no hard feelings, at least not from Malia’s point of view. She drank occasionally (her parents knew about this) and smoked weed a few times (not about this). However, she never got into any big trouble.
(tw family death & cancer for the next few paragraphs) Then, all of a sudden, when Malia was 21, her mother became ill. Seeing her like that confused the entire family. She was so weak and losing weight rapidly. Eventually, she was diagnosed with very aggressive breast cancer. Those months were hard on the family - the illness took her in just a summer.
Malia’s father arranged for her to go to therapy to discuss her mother’s death, which was a huge help for her as she processed the tragedy. After a few months of grieving, Malia moved back home from University to take care of her father who had not processed the death as well as Malia - she was studying early education but dropped everything in a heartbeat once she realised how poorly her father was. In that time, the two got even closer than before.
A few years ago, her father received a job offer from NYU and decided to move over to America. He felt the need to start all over again, to rid himself of past ghosts. Malia didn’t have a choice but to go with him because she couldn’t bear the thought of them being in separate countries, on the opposites sides of a huge ocean.
After moving to New York, Malia couldn’t afford to continue her University education and instead got a job at a kindergarten. She had always loved children and seemed to be very good with them, so it worked well for her.
(tw family illness for the next paragraphs) In the beginning, her father seemed to be doing better with starting a new job and seemingly starting afresh. But Malia could see that his health was declining - grieving her mother had taken a toll on her father.
Terrified of losing him too, Malia stays with him and helps around the apartment. A few months ago, his mental and physical health started declining to the point where he had to resign from NYU. Now, he is struggling for money and afraid of having to go to the hospital because he doesn’t know how to pay for the medical bills.
Luckily, after only a few months in New York, Malia realised how easy it would be for her to make extra money and enjoy the luxuries of life if she just looked cute and talked sweet things to rich guys. The men seemed to like her looks and slightly ditzy personality, and they simply adored her accent. Older or younger, she didn’t really mind, but she was always clear that she would never have sex with them, and the men were usually okay with this.
Being able to support herself in this way meant that any money she made from her kindergartener job would go directly to her father, as well as any cash the men gifted her. She would often bring leftovers from fancy restaurants and give them to her father, and would also sometimes steal medicine from the fancy penthouse bathroom cupboards.
Malia loves the children at her kindergarten and has only recently realised that if the parents of the children found out about her second source of income, she would be in deep trouble with her employers. However, her dad is increasingly in need of money and so she is unable to quit either profession.
She is afraid of someone at the kindergarten finding out about her employment which would lead to her possibly getting fired, which could then lead to her losing her father. Just like she lost her mother.
