Coins and "masc version"s

I am writing this a calm informative tone. If you read me as angry, then you are reading me wrong. Now onto the actual post.

As some may have noticed, on all my woman history month event coins, I have put a banner saying in essence "Don't ask for a masc version". This is because of a trend that often occurs. A trend that has been occurring for a long time. In fact, one of the first terms I ever requested to be coined in 2021 had this done.

A request for a masc version.

Now, on it's face, this is fairly innocuous. Most of all when it comes to terms that doesn't have binary (Or trinary with neutral) association. But this is rarely done. You only commonly said in terms related to feminine folks or woman. And often times this is one of the first things said about, if not one of the only things said about. Which just by itself is extremely disheartening. It also creates this idea that fem/woman/etc related coins must have a masc counterpart. That a fem term can't exist without as masculine counterpart. Which is wildly untrue. And if the coiner is a woman and/or doesn't take requests, it can really feel like one is being asked to do labor that one didn't even indicate they were open to do.

Requests for fem versions, at least before I started talking about misogyny in mogai, wasn't/isn't nearly as large of a phenomenon, most of all on masc terms. Women are expected to just do it ourselves most of the time. So why don't You just do it yourself as well? Instead of having the first thing said about it be "Cool! Are you going to make a masc version?"
