The Voltron characters if they were prehistoric animals headcanons:
Shiro would be an argentinosaurus. Like, I think the go-to for Shiro would be a tyrannosaurus rex (seeing as he's the leader), but I honestly think a sauropod dinosaur fits him better. A gentle giant, you know. Argentinosaurus is the largest terrestrial animal that we know of.
Keith would be a spinosaurus. I think Keith deserves to be such a confusing and mysterious dinosaur. It's been mischaracterised for YEARS, DECADES, and I think that really just fits his whole vibe as a character and as the "lone wolf." Especially with the way he was kinda mischaracterised as way more edgy than he really was in early fandom.
Lance would either be a quetzalcoatlus or a mosasaurus. I think quetzalcoatlus fits better because of his love for flying, but the mosasaurus would also make sense, seeing as his Lions element is water. I think quetzalcoatlus also fits because of Lance's unjust ending (RIP king, you deserved to spend the rest of your days soaring through the skies 💔).
Pidge would be an anomalocaris. It's the first Apex predator, but it also evolved during the cambrian period, when evolution was going batshit crazy and I think she'd enjoy living in such a time where change was so rapid, but also safe as nothing would hurt her. This one's more emotionally based but still, I think it fits her as a character.
Hunk would be an ankylosaurus. It's literally nicknamed the living tank. I think it'd be good for his character as, you know, he wants to keep his friends safe and all that. Also with the yellow lion being the most defensive. Also, I can not even BEGIN to imagine him as a carnivore, so I also think the herbivorous diet fits him too.
Allura would be a parasaurolophus. I think the large head ornament is a good nod to her princess side as it could have the colouration of her crown. It's also a herbivore, which I think suits her personality as to me she's a peaceful person. It's also the ONLY dinosaur that we know what sound it made, which is cool in itself, but could also reference to the fact she's a talkative/extroverted/friendly person.
Coran would be an amargasaurus. The sail on its neck, I think, could reference his slickedback hair. And again, with the fact it's a herbivore, it just fits in well with my perception of Coran. Also just like Shiro, a sauropod would suit him.
Lotor would be a therizinosaurus. The claws of the therizinosaurus can show how he's a sword fighter. The fact is that it's a feathered dinosaur could also reference his GORGEOUS hair.
James would be a tyrannosaurus. I think the tyrannosaurus rex fits James more than it would Shiro when it comes to leadership styles. He has a very deep respect for order and rules, and yeah, that does make him come off as rude sometimes to others, but he's is a good guy (yes he punched Keith, but come on they were like 12). And although it's an exaggeration, I think this can tie into the idea that the tyrannosaurus rex is often perceived more as a monster than a real animal, seeing as a lot of people don't like James because of how he was to Keith (who's obviously the fan favourite).
