How do I know I am a millennial? I require no explanation for anything entertaining. I show my folks a funny video of a cockatoo having an argument with a dude jumping on its empty cage, and they’re like, Where did you find this? Why is that happening? I don’t know. I don’t care. It was on the Internet. That’s the only context I can give you.
There's a friend I used to have who I really miss and think about a lot but I can't tell them because they stopped responding to me over half a year ago with no explanation and I'm afraid I did something hurtful to them unknowingly so I don't want to push it if that's the case but I really really miss them and it hurts and I have no outlet for this feeling except for making dumb Tumblr posts so here I am. I've been laying awake in bed for an hour tonight trying to think of what I did.

Ive been waiting for maslows hierarchy to become a meme
this lip syncing is better than all of my skills combined
Honestly, it’s irresponsible to treat Trump supporters in any way that suggests their actions and views are excusable. The ones you know, shame in both public and private. Shun them. Large-scale social enforcement works. Bigots’ going unrebuked is why we’re in this mess.
The deluge of desperate, whining pleas from so many Trump supporters circulating right now to not “bully” them, to extend them respect as though they didn’t just vote to strip it alongside actual, tangible rights away from masses of people, essentially to coddle their consciences and pretend their vote wasn’t a vote for injustice itself—this is evidence that enforcing accountability via social means WORKS, and plenty of these assholes are indeed afraid of it.
Could you specify what rights that Trump has threatened?
Yeah, sure.
“Sealioning is the name given to a specific, pervasive form of aggressive cluelessness, that masquerades as a sincere desire to understand.
A Sealion is a person who, when confronted with a fact that they don’t care to acknowledge, say, the persistence of systemic racism in America, will ask endlessly for ‘proof’ and insist that it is the other person’s job to stop everything they are doing and address the issue to their satisfaction.
Sealions are just ‘asking nicely’ but they are asking questions that have been asked and answered fully many times, and are unwilling to so much as open a tab to look up the answer, nor will they recognize the validity of your sources, your experience or expertise.”

I know the story but how did this meme even get started lol
People who are low income don't have to explain their purchases to you.
They don’t have to justify having kids, they don’t have to justify the tv they bought with their tax return, and they don’t have to feel guilty about getting a tattoo.
Low income people deserve to splurge sometimes too, get over it.
I got dragged to hell because I had the audacity to call out my employer for not paying their employees a living wage while having “nice” things on my social media - a bottle of whiskey, a lush face mask, pictures of food I’d made. if you did the math, it’s pretty obvious that those things were either 1. very expensive to me that I had to save up to buy or 2. purchased by someone else. I was even criticized for having glasses (which took me 3 paychecks to save up for and, with an eye exam, frames, and FREE lenses, cost $70). there’s this assumption that if you’re poor, starving, and in desperate need, that you’re going to focus on saving more for the future - when in reality, you’re treating every day like it’s your last because you don’t know how you’re going to be able to afford to keep going. poor people, especially those who’ve been poor their whole lives, justify “splurge” purchases like a tattoo or a bottle of booze as a little reprieve from the stress. an $8 face mask or making “fancy” biscuits from bisquik and food someone else bought are little staples of self care - the illusion of normalcy to keep you going. what you may see as splurging, poor people see as survival. what’s often ignored is how intense the guilt gets after a “splurge” purchase and the stress that comes from minor inconveniences. when you can’t pay your electric bill on time and a list of everything you’ve ever bought that wasn’t a necessity flashes through your mind. when you can’t afford to get a tail light fixed and it makes you consider selling the whole car - which you need - just to avoid the risk of a traffic ticket you know you wouldn’t be able to pay. when you grow to hate yourself because you should be able to survive, yet somehow you can’t seem to do even that right, and how you don’t deserve to be comfortable because you can’t see that the odds of being able to survive on a full-time job are stacked against you just because the only jobs you’re qualified for are minimum wage and “minimum” no longer means “living.” if you try to shame a low income person for their splurges or use those purchases as proof that they’re not struggling, you are automatically revealing that you have no idea what it’s like to be low income. even if you used to be low income and you try to criticize those who currently are, you’ve lost touch and are better off digging up some empathy in lieu of some snarky hot take. train yourself to see “splurge” purchases by low income/persistently poor people as life jackets, not yachts.
I just rambled or a half hour to my boss about Disney World and the Imagination Pavilion and Dreamfinder and Captain EO and Walt Disney’s anti-union sentiment omfg I regret my whole life.
I’m sweating she probably thinks I’m fucking weird but HEY she asked??
just so you know
the US minimum wage that we all agree is too low to live on ($15,080/yr) is far more than many legally disabled people receive in benefits
the maximum SSI for a single person is $8,796/yr if a disabled person marries another, each drops to a max of $6,600/yr
while you’re fighting for 15 maybe look at that too
Not to mention we aren’t allowed to have more than $2,000 saved at a time. EVER. Like EVER or we lose all benefits completely. In the bank, in cash, it doesn’t matter. The government literally keeps us poor, while also making us pay immense amounts of money for health care that we require to even survive or function (let alone work enough to be able to get off of benefits, not to mention that there are a ton of people who will never be able to do that anyways). It’s a very, very broken system and not one that was ever meant to actually help anyone.
Plus, “marriage equality” is still a huge problem for disabled people (as you can see), which is something almost everyone is ignorant to/doesn’t care about.
DO NOT LEAVE DISABLED PEOPLE OUT OF YOUR ACTIVISM.
Btw that’s $733 a MONTH they want us to use for rent, food, and everything else. I asked once why it’s so low- how that’s even fair. She responded that they only factor in how much it would cost for rent and for food (with food stamps). That’s it. That’s all the government thinks we need to live. Rent and food.
And in case you weren’t aware, the disabled cost of living is much higher than the fully abled cost of living.
Mobility aids are expensive. Medications and supplements are expensive. Special diets to accommodate illnesses are expensive. Avoiding a long list of allergies is expensive. Wheelchair accessible home and car modifications are expensive. Hiring someone to do all your cleaning and laundry because you can’t is expensive.
And yet they still give us so little money that abled people couldn’t possibly live on it.
Most states also have a State Supplement program. In New York, for instance, the monthly single federal benefit totals $820 because of the supplement. SSI recipients can also get SNAP (food stamps) unless for some reason their HH doesn’t pass a net income test of 100% of the FPL. Still, this is only $9.840 for a full year plus $194 per month in food (for a HH of 1). Even worse is the budget for Public Assistance recipients- many of which are disabled but don’t qualify for SSI. The max Public Assistance a single person in a HH of 1 can get in NY is $406 per month for a total of $4,872 per year. Plus $194 per month in SNAP. The highest rent DSS will allow for a Public Assistance HH of 1 is $325 outside of NYC. Can you imagine finding an apartment for $325 or less?
