Detox from Winter Accumulation: Triphala
In the winter, a more sedentary lifestyle and weakened metabolism often leads to accumulation of Kapha dosha that can cause congestion in the body. This congestion will often occur in the sinus cavaties and in the intestines. Accumulation in the intestines is referred to as âamaâ - a toxic build-up of undigested food particles that will ultimately lead to disease if it is not flushed out.Â
Triphala is a potent Ayurvedic herbal laxative formula that regulates apana vayu (downward moving air) and allows for movement through the bowels. It is a combination of three herbs - haritaki, amalaki, and bibhitaki - that balance all three doshas.
For a simple detox to expel ama from the system and a powerful remedy to constipation try this tea each evening before bed:
Take 1/2 tsp of triphala mixed with hot water
Add lemon or honey to taste
NOTE: The more accumulation you have, the more unpleasant the taste of Triphala will be. As you drink this tea regularly, you will notice the taste will become sweeter.
âYoga as a spiritual practice is only possible for the soul, for a person who has awakened his or her spiritual aspiration and longs to go beyond the cycle of rebirth. Yoga as a spiritual practice is not possible for the unawakened or immature ego, which will use it for purposes of self-aggrandizement or personal enjoyment. To awaken at the level of the soul is the first step of genuine yoga practice and precedes even the yamas and niyamas, which require a soul awareness to be able to practice. If you wish to practice yoga, you must ask yourself:
"Is the soul awake within me and ready to return to destiny?"

This combination of herbs will support: clarity of mind, opening of the heart, love and devotion, deep sleep, kidney function, immune strength, urinary function, hormone balance, absorption in the small intestine, nerve tissue, eye strength, sexual energy and rejuvenation of ojas.Â
"We all gravitate toward that which our soul has affinity. This is owing to the magnetic nature of the soul. We draw to us people and circumstances that are in harmony with our soul and the type of manifestation that it is seeking...Our soul's magnetism, which is its power of love, brings us into various relationships and links us with other souls who further our soul quality and help us grow...Yet sometimes the soul draws us to people or situations that test it and challenge its growth as well, just as an advanced mountain climber will seek difficult slopes to climb...The people we are drawn to in life reflect the nature of our soul's magnetism. So, too, the people we associate with in life hold our soul under their magnetic influences, which can either be hypnotic or enlightening."
- David FrawleyÂ
"We can put our knowledge of the philosophy of Sankhya into our daily lives and relationships in moment to moment existence. The moment we look at our bodies in the mirror, we start judging. Many of us don't like the face, hair, nose, or color we have. But we are not nose, face, or body; we are the dweller dwelling in this body. Something higher and nobler. We are Purusha. We are Shakti. In this way we can apply the philosophy of Sankhya in our daily lives for self-healing. We all must heal ourselves".
- Vasant Lad
Practice consciously and change will come to you. Notice your results. Validate the changes for yourself. This does not mean brag about how great you are. It means to clearly acknowledge to yourself the changes. Then pause to allow the connection to your deepest self flourish.
Freedom In Your Relationship With Food: An Everyday Guide (via myralewin)
My morning routine.
How to Oil Up â Ayurveda Style
Choose an oil. If you tend to run hot, coconut oil is cooling. If you run cold, sesame oil is warming. Sunflower oil is a good oil to blend with either of these two as it lessens their smell and heaviness (if you find them too intense). If you run really oily already, you may try dry brushing your skin instead of using oil.
Start by warming up your oil. When you warm the oil it âcuresâ it, allowing your skin to better absorb it. You can heat your oil in a small sauce pan on the stove. I usually just put some boiling water in a glass measuring cup. Then, I put the smaller glass bottle of oil into the measuring cup and let the oil heat for about 15 minutes before applying it. You can also just simply place the glass bottle directly in your bathroom sink. Close the drain and fill with the hottest water possible. Allow to sit for at least 15 minutes before applying to the body. Truth be told, sometimes I donât have time for curing it, so I just rub it strong in my palms to âheat itâ before applying.
Get naked.Â
For the full bliss treatment, you can start at the top of the head and pour the oil directly onto the crown. If you are doing this before work and do not want an oily head for the rest of the day, you can skip this part and save it for a day when you do not need to be âpresentable.â That said, Ayurvedic tradition placed heavy emphasis on massage the head and neck. Of the 107 energetic points of the body (called marmas), 37 are located on the head and neck.
Continue onto the face (gently) and the rest of the body. On the long arms and legs, use back-and-forth strokes. On the joints, use circular strokes. If you are looking down at your belly, do circular strokes in a clock-wise motion, as this is direction in which our long intestine moves, and will stimulate proper digestion.
How long should you spend massaging the body? Ideally, 15-20 minutes. If time is an issue, spend at least five minutes in total communion with your body vehicle. And by the way, notice the spots of the body you avoid. The thighs? The feet? Spend the most time there, as these are the bits that need the most love.
Sit for some time. I recommend 20 minutes. Why not use this time to do some meditation?
Rub off any excess oil with a towel and then take a shower. It may be a good idea to have a few towels designating for oiling, as they will not be of much use for drying the body after a few weeks. Showering causes the pores to open, allowing the herbal oil to penetrate even deeper into the skin. You do not need to soap-off the oil. The body will, most likely absorb it all, especially if you are quite dry.
Make sure not to leave the oil on for more than 45 minutes as this can actually clog the channels we are trying to cleanse. Also, make sure to use chemical-free, organic, cold-pressed oils.
Leave the house covered in a layer of L.O.V.E. (well-oiled).

The Durga Yantra is a powerful tool for meditation that will allow you to manifest your desires, remove problems in business and your personal life, and give you the power to overcome your enemies.Â
Place an image of this Yantra near your altar or place of meditation. Gaze lovingly at it, opening up your minds eye to it's potential, and chant the Durga beej mantra.
Om Shreem Hreem Kamle Kamlalaye Praseed ShreemÂ
Hreem Shreem Om Mahalaxmiyei Namah Â

People who are troubled by their enemies People who lack confidence and courage to face their future People who desire to acquire material comforts People who struggle to establish their talents People who seek relief from depression or despair People who have given up hope
"Durga, through all her forms, encompasses the essence of salvation and sacrifice. She is the mother of bounty and wealth, as also of beauty and knowledge, for her daughters are Lakshmi and Saraswati (Hindu goddesses of wealth and knowledge, respectively).
She is the embodiement of purity, knowledge, truth and self-realization. The highest form of truth present in any being or Jiva is known as "Aatman" or supreme consciousness. This supreme consciousness or the absolute soul is infinite, birthless, deathless, beyond time and space, and beyond the law of causation. Goddess Durga is the inherent dynamic energy through which this supreme consciousness manifests itself.
Goddess Durga represents the power of the Supreme Being that preserves moral order and righteousness in the universe. She is the energy aspect of the Lord. Without Durga, Lord Shiva has no expression and without Shiva, Durga has no existence. Lord Shiva is only the silent witness. He is motionless, absolutely changeless. He is not affected by the cosmic play. Shiva has no direct connection with the tangible elements in the universe and is obliged to emanate a manifestation, an emission of energy, shakti, through the goddess. It is Durga who is the doer of all actions. Shiva and Durga are regarded as the twofold personalization of Brahman, the primeval substance."
