The smaller girl crosses over, settling on the foot of the bed. One hand reaches out to trail bubblegum pink nails over her girlfriend’s bare leg, a teasing little giggle escaping from the feel of cool flesh, “Oh, we can definitely get each other hot, babe.” She throws herself up the bed, hitting the pillows next to the taller girl. Those soft hands grab and tug the dark haired waif against her. The assumption of half nakedness is proven wrong, because there is absolutely no fabric meeting her cool flesh when she’s nuzzled against the blonde, those nails gently scratching along her scalp,“What do you suppose we do?”

❝ SHUT THE FUCK UP. ❞

All but throwing the woman forwards into the door, she reaches out around her for the door handle, jamming the lock shut with her thumb before slamming both hands against the door to entrap the woman between her arms.

Every inch of her is shaking, violently; her features strained as if she’s fiercely resisting the urge to drive a knife into the other’s chest. When she finally catches enough breath to speak, it’s barely above a whisper.

She gasps, staring up at the taller woman before opening her mouth and shrieking for all she's worth. Hoping to draw attention from outside the bathroom.

The temperature of the room has dropped into the low fifties, enough that the older woman is shivering a little, “I won’t move, you can’t pick me up.” That horrible sense of unease in the pit of her stomach is back and she’s feeling rather hopeless, “Look, you and her were an abomination, and this was all God’s work.”

☠ 𝕱𝖔𝖗 a few moments, she doesn’t even realize that she’s grabbed the collar of the older woman’s blouse, but it probably helps a bit with emphasizing her statement. Lacking in regrets, she just latches on with the other hand and stares down at her, all but lifting the blonde off her feet.

Her voice has dropped to an almost slimy-sounding whisper, as she hisses out her words, not even inches from touching foreheads with the other.

Esther claws at the hands clasping her shirt. Her eyes wide and her skin white as a sheet as though she's seen a ghost, "Unhand me now! Or I'll file assault charges against you!"

❝ Yeah, probably. ❞ the teen grumbles back, unfazed. ❝ And you realize I can just pick you up if you don’t get out of the way, so— here’s a chance to save some dignity. Move. ❞

Huffing, the teen shakes her head and steps forward, giving the older woman’s shoulder a rough shove as she tries to make her way for the door.

“You should have died with your mother.” Esther spits, shoving back, and barring her from leaving, “I’m not done speaking to you.”

☣ 𝕭𝖞 this point, she was agitated enough to finally stand up, cringing a little as her now-aching legs are forced to support her weight again.

𝕾𝖍𝖊 couldn’t bring herself to add ‘it wasn’t my fault.’ That, she didn’t completely disagree with yet. But hearing those words burned like twisting a knife in a wound.

❝ Maybe do your future kids a favor and go get your tubes tied, while you’re here. If you were my mom, I’d rather just not exist. ❞

“How dare you! You are such a disgrace, it’s no wonder, I mean having a mother that killed herself, oh yes, Margaret mentioned before you two started this fling that you didn’t have a mother in your life.” Esther hisses, shaking her head, “No one to teach you proper respect or manners.”

❝ Well, guess what? You don’t have to deal with me anymore. Can you just go away? ❞

She sounds much closer to the verge of crying, or possibly biting a chunk out of the woman’s arm. Both seemed optimal.

“If it wasn’t for you, she’d still be here, so no I can’t just go away.” She spits, glaring down at the ball on the floor, “Why couldn’t you have left her alone? She was a good child until you started coming around!”

“Baby, we’re in public. Y-you can’t do that.” The pink haired young woman goes scarlet, stammering a little at her girlfriend, “We’re in a restaurant, waiting on my dad to show up.”

❝ Who’s not here, yet. ❞ she murmurs without hesitation, biting her lip as she rests a hand on the smaller woman’s knee, trying not to grin.

She squeaks softly, worrying at her lip, “No he isn’t here yet, but what if someone notices, babe?”

She doesn’t clamp her legs shut though, like the taller was probably expecting.

Funny thing. The Lord texted me a few minutes ago. Said I should tell you to go drown yourself in one of these fucking toilets.

☢ 𝕭𝖚𝖙 she resists blurting out the words she actually wants to say. Unhealthy mindsets or not, this was still a grieving mother. Probably. Her earlier reaction suggested she actually had the capacity to love in there, somewhere.

❝ Can you please just — not do this right now? ❞ the teen grumbles, voice barely above a whisper, not moving from her balled-up position.

“You know she was always such a good child, and then she wanted to go to public school for her last two years and met you.” Esther shakes her head, “She was a straight A student, and had all these scholarships lined up. Had a full ride to the university she wanted to attend. And now she’s gone. It’s only to be expected, I mean the Lord works in mysterious ways, and He obviously did not like the idea of you and her.”

❝ I'll finger you right under this table and then lick them. I don't give a fuck. ❞

“Baby, we’re in public. Y-you can’t do that.” The pink haired young woman goes scarlet, stammering a little at her girlfriend, “We’re in a restaurant, waiting on my dad to show up.”

Margaret Glendale-Paulson was declared dead at 1:24 AM, despite the best efforts of all paramedics and doctors involved. The skin on her arms and chest was severely burned, most of her insides were bruised, and had she survived, her left leg would have required an amputation. As it was, now, none of her limbs would ever work again.

In the women’s bathroom across the hall from the trauma ward, the teen sat curled up against the cold, hard, wall, curled into a dark-clothed ball, hugging her legs with with her head on her knees. She’s not going to cry, but she won’t do anything else, either. As nice as a cigarette sounded right now, she couldn’t find the energy to even reach into her pocket.

She hadn’t bothered to lock the door, but if anyone came in, fuck it. They’d probably all seen this shit happen before. And if not, they’d hopefully feel too uncomfortable to ask.

For a long while, the lovely paramedic Lisa had sat with Amy, trying to comfort the worried teen, while fending off the now fuming Esther, but eventually she had to go back to work saving lives. It had only been a short while after she’d left that the doctors had exhausted all means of reviving the blonde.

Esther had thrown herself atop her daughter and sobbed, hoping her dramatics would make up for her lack of decency. Though some small part of her was deeply grieved by the loss of the girl who used to call her mommy and do as she was told. After she had watched the tall brooding younger woman leave she’d settled down to the business of making sure that all valuables were removed so that no one could rob her daughter’s corpse.

She enters the bathroom across the hall, intending to clean her face and touch up her make up. She shakes her head, spotting the dark ball of her daughter’s girlfriend, “Figured you would be gone already. I mean there’s nothing more for you here. I just hope the Lord forgives her and she’s not burning eternally. Though if the accident says anything, it’s that the Lord isn’t happy at all with her.”

Esther has already stomped off to belittle the officer.

“I’m sure that your girlfriend will wake up, let’s get you settled. So that you can be there instead of that one when she does.” The paramedic gently squeezes her shoulder, “I’m Lisa Apetti, and I’m gonna make sure that, forgive my language, bitch doesn’t get to see your girlfriend.”

☠ 𝕰𝖛𝖊𝖓 in her seething state, that manages to put the tiniest smile on her face.

❝ . . .Thanks. Can’t really be avoided in the long run, since that’s— y’know— her fucking mother. But any amount of time you can keep them apart is valuable. ❞

She’s trembling from sheer adrenaline (probably), even colder to the touch than usual with the rain soaking into her jacket. It’s almost tempting to just turn around and hug the new woman, just to relieve a bit of stress. But it’d probably be safer to squeeze something unbreakable.

“How old is your girlfriend, if you don’t mind my asking?” Lisa seems to be thinking, “Because if she’s over 18, her mother has no legal right to be involved. I can at least delay her for several hours, I’ll tell her that I need her to fill out the extensive family history.”

She sighs, rubbing her temples, “Do you need a hug, hon? You look like you could use one.”

“Miss, I’m going to need you to sit back down, with your head injury, it isn’t a good idea to be upright.” The paramedic gently rests a hand on Amy’s arm, not pushing her back down, but trying to steady her, “I’ll deal with this woman.” “And just what exactly do you expect to gain by being an absolute horror to me? Is this how you win over people?” Esther huffs, rolling her eyes, not intimidated by the angry goth in front of her, despite the unease that seems to have popped up out of nowhere in her stomach, “Now, I’m going to ask the nice officers for a ride to the hospital so that I can be there when Margaret wakes up.”

❝ Going to be civil to her for once? That’d be nice. ❞ the teen spits, willingly sitting back down on the damp curb and planting her chin in her palm in a sulking pose.

The sidewalk getting her skirt wet doesn’t bother her. Really, it’s one of the only things right now not bothering her.

She cringes to think of the accusations that poor girl will awaken to. Before she can even remember where she is.

But she wanted to experience it, thought it would look good on her applications having a well rounded schooling experience.”

“Ma’am, I’m going to need you to step away, because I don’t know about my patient, but I personally cannot stand your presence any longer.” The woman bandaging her forehead snaps, glaring at the older woman, “So I’m going to need you to calmly go stand over there by the cop car, so that you can have a ride to the hospital, if you refuse, I will have them arrest you for hindering treatment of a patient.”

“You wouldn’t dare. I’m Esther Glendale, formerly Esther Paulson, and I own half the town, you wouldn’t dare.” Esther stomps her foot and looks ready to call the supervisor.

❝ . . . Is this a joke? Are you trying to cheer people up with your best snooty bitch impression? You cannot be a real person. ❞

𝕿𝖍𝖊 self-control effort didn’t last long, and she’s already standing up as quick as she can with the bruises covering her sides and legs. Although she wobbles a bit, she still towers well over the older woman, looking down on her with a twisted scowl.

❝ Why don’t you welcome the reality check that everyone hates you, and think about whether you should try improving yourself? ❞

☢ 𝕴𝖙 feels like the first time she’s spoken in hours, even though it can’t have been more than fifteen minutes. Everything feels physically and emotionally numb, and the sound of her own voice hits her like an unexpected sensory blow.

𝕳𝖆𝖓𝖉𝖘 balled into fists under uncomfortably soaked black sleeves, she struggles to hold back the burning ball of something cold and unpleasant deep in her soul, keeping her response relatively tame for now.

❝ How’s this because of me? You think she let me drive? ❞ Her voice doesn’t raise above a threatening grumble, and if the person carefully cleaning and bandaging the wound on her forehead is acknowledging this in any way, she’s not about to process it. ❝ Just used to blaming me for everything? You could find a better coping mechanism, y’know. One that doesn’t make you seem like a shitty person. ❞

☢ 𝕰𝖛𝖊𝖗𝖞𝖙𝖍𝖎𝖓𝖌 feels bleary. Similar to the feeling when you just woke up in the middle of the night, but were still so out of it you could barely process existence. There’s more pain, though. That’s becoming clearer by the second. Ringing pain in her head. And on the outside of her head, which had become wet with something- though it’s flowing too quickly to be her own blood. That’s good. Maybe.

𝕱𝖆𝖎𝖓𝖙, unfamiliar voices are echoing around them. And something hard and sharp is digging into her side. Grunting weakly, she takes a moment to conjure up all the strength she can,before pushing herself an inch or two to the left. The dented metal is mostly out of the way, now, but her left side is huddled up against something limp, and warm, that smells like burning hair. And…something else, much worse, but she’s not coherent enough to process what it could be.

❝ Maggie? ❞ she weakly rasps out again, not sure whether to direct it at the crowd apparently surrounding them, or the limp body snuggled up to her.

“Can you hear me ma’am?” One of the paramedics is crouched by her door, peering in at her, “If you can hear me, we’re going to try and get you out now, can you tell me if anything hurts?” There’s a horrendous screeching of metal as the rescue squad begins cutting the door from its frame, levering it out of the way and letting the paramedics get to the pair. Gloved hands work efficiently at securing a C collar around her neck, and then she’s being carefully moved out of the car.

Maggie makes no sound as they remove her from the ruins of the vehicle, unlike Amy, she’s strapped down to a backboard with nearly an army of paramedics working on her, administering this or that to try and make her stable.

“If my girl dies because of you, I’ll never let you forget it.” Esther is on top of Amy as soon as she’s settled on a curb, the paramedic tending to her injuries as they wait for another ambulance.
