Eddsworld AU Idea - Dedd End Reset

Inspired by: Kindergarten (Con Man Games series), WTFuture, Happy Death Day, Groundhog Day, Kenny McCormick (South Park), Madoka Magica

Premise: during each of the gang’s adventures, Edd is doomed to repeat the day every time he or one of the other’s dies until everyone survives until the end of the day, all while Edd does not have the privilege of forgetting previous loops, unlike the others.

Information about the loops:

The day resets if Tord, Tom, Matt, or Edd die. (He probably doesn’t find out that his death counts until a later loop)

^ it doesn’t reset until Edd falls asleep at the end of the day or he dies.

Objects, physical wounds, as well as memories (exempting Edd’s) reset. (Would supernatural objects/beings be exempt from this? Maybe)

Revival/undead (like during Zombeh trilogy or Matt Sucks) prevent failed loops.

not sleeping only works for so long. The minute Edd falls asleep in bed, the day resets.

Terms

Loop: a day in which Edd has repeated.

Failed Loop: a day in which one of the main 4 dies.

Reset: Edd dying or going to bed after a failed loop

Other stuff:

- I wonder if, during The End pt.2, when Jon dies, Edd considers killing one of the others on purpose just to try again in another loop and prevent it even though it most likely results in a bad end anyways

- ^ basically Dedd End Reset is the universe basically going “you think you alone can save everyone? Ok, prove it” at Edd

- DUDE THE END IN GENERAL WOULD BE SO DEVASTATING.

- ^ EDD INITIALLY IMAGINING HE’S GONNA HAVE TO RESET WHEN THEY THINK TOM IS DEAD.

- ^ EDD KNOWING AFTER THE FIRST LOOP WHY TORD IS REALLY THERE. OH MY GOD.

- also WTFuture????? That would be so cool and lowkey even sadder than the original in the way they both know there’s no feasible way for FuturEdd to meaningfully spare himself from his cruel future. But he’ll be damned if he doesn’t try.

- I think Edd would originally try to find some sort of silver lining like being able to eat good food and do fun stuff again but I know it’d wear off eventually.

- I also think he would be a lot more reckless, especially in failed loops, because he knows that no matter what he does, the consequences will be gone by morning

- Is there an end to the curse? A way to break it? I think it’d be a fun thing to explore in the way that Edd would become OBSESSED with figuring out how (or if) there’s a loophole or way to break the loop (his research disappears every reset.)

Edd: as the heart/central figure in this AU, changes the most from his canon self. He’s still the planner, still works more methodically than emotionally… well, at first. After a couple of loops, Edd becomes far more reckless, both with own life and even some of the others, and almost aloof and obsessed with the ‘curse’ that has consumed his life. To the others, he seems forgetful about mundane stuff, weirdly perceptive about other stuff, and a bit more stubborn than usual, but they have no clue that he’s lived in the same day several times, causing him to mix up the events of certain runs.

Tom: Because of his experience with the supernatural, Tom is the first of the others to notice Edd’s uncanny knowledge of things that haven’t even happened yet or that he feasibly *shouldn’t know.* He doesn’t know what *exactly* is wrong—Edd won’t tell him and says Tom wouldn’t believe him—but he can just tell that something is up.

Tord: although absent for a good deal of this AU, when he returns during the events of The End, he notices Edd is… not the Edd he remembers. Physically, sure, he’s the same—a couple years older—but… he’s more jaded, definitely knows more than he lets on. This, in turn, causes Tord to be somewhat more secretive and cautious about his intentions in returning.

Matt: innately, Matt has a lesser understanding of the curse, both because he has a little less intimate knowledge of the paranormal and because Edd is going out of his way to be secretive about it. Intuitively, however, he sometimes gets deja vu or an odd sense that *the events he’s experiencing have happened before.* He doesn’t have a clue how to explain it, but he just… knows something is wrong.

got bored here is what I imagine jerry could be like in present/pre-prologue blocktales

I don't think there was ever a phase of my life where I haven't loved Eddsworld. It was the reason I got into fandom at all, and I think it was (or is) one of the main reasons I'm so in love with art as I am. I think that Eddsworld and media like it are like dandelions: their seeds blown to the wind and scattering wishes to the world, planting those seeds, those wishes, in places near in far to grow more dandelions to make more wishes on. Thank you, Edd, for spreading your wish, your love of creation, to inspire artists like me and so many others. 🩵
