ragatha’s first instinct here was to panic and brace herself for some kind of verbal backlash because of the outburst earlier. pomni didn’t even sound mad or irritated in her delivery, but ragatha’s expression still 100% reads “she must be upset with me for yelling”

First of all, you are reading fiction but Secondly,

A man gaslighting a woman in order to gain control so he can kill her is one of the most realistic reasons women need to escape.

Why didn’t she call the police? Well to that I say yet again it’s fiction, but it’s her word against the man who has control and is gaslighting her and cutting her off from her resources (her money and car). If she went to the police and they didn’t believe her and she went back home for him to find out it would just get more dangerous.

She was not only protecting herself but Bel and Carter too. She had to be careful he wouldn’t take anything out on Bel and unknowingly Carter.
