I went to Bali to surf and had the best time. The waves were amazing, it was warm but cool enough for me, the water was just as blue as you would hope, and biking around was really easy.
The water is great everywhere in Bali, but if you’re going surfing alone, I would recommend Kuta Beach. There's always a decent crowd around so if you try and wipe-out they’ll be there to help you get back on your board.
Surfing in Bali is done year-round, with waves ranging from a small occasional slow ripple to the 6+ feet waves generated by the seasonal wet season (December to February) and strong persistent winds. The best time to surf in Bali is determined by when you want to surf.
Depending on weather conditions: October - December are usually more consistent with 4-6 ft beaches, but dead low tide; June - September can be absolutely amazing for surfing, but again dead low tide. Dry season (April - September) can be unpredictable; October or November will keep a good wetsuit handy just in case!
