the two tenets of being a sports fan that you must understand are 1. All sports fans are evil (this includes you) and 2. All sports fans are hypocrites (this includes you). once you accept these foundational ideas , it’s all good dude
have y’all seen this. give him all the awards
How did I know that Patrice Bergeron would eventually cross over into legitimate acting?
obviously jason collins’ life was far more than just this singular article but for me personally, it was one of the first articles that i read about coming out and it’s still incredibly inspiring to me.
when u just moved to moscow and now ur at a party and have no idea what is going on and ur man won’t translate for u and then he gives u a sideways look like YOU’RE the one who’s embarrassing for not clapping

Like, the good luck charms that many baseball fans practice are absolutely a form of ritual magic from an anthropological standpoint, there's no question there, but imagine what American baseball would look like if Protestants didn't have this whole hangup about ritual magic being Satanic and thus didn't need to maintain plausible deniability. Just openly casting curses on the opposing team, Roman style.
I believe with the recent Etsy Witch situation, it could be argued that we are moving in the direction of Openly Casting Spells For Teams. Still a bit to go towards fans engaging in ritual in the stands, but I 100% believe American society can get there. That is neither a positive or negative statement, just an observation about the trends in our society, and the intensity with which people identify with The Sportsteams.
Yeah, the Etsy witch thing still falls safely within the bounds of plausible deniability; folks selling spellcasting services on Etsy are popularly understood as offering an entertainment service, so you can play it off as a goof if you have to. It's a far cry from fans openly getting together to inscribe exploding scrotum curses on leaden tablets; I don't share your optimism that we'll get there soon, but I'd love to be proven wrong!

The Vegas Golden Knights are looking to sign Carter Hart. Take my hand, let's bully the front office <3
Per Chris Johnston via the Athletic (archived)
In the same article, he says the Canes have reconsidered their own hiring of Michael McLeod due to backlash:
You can and should bully the shit out of any NHL team for this. There aren't a lot of active Knights fans on here but a few are taking action over on Twitter, and it would be sweet if hockey fans across the league spoke up and added their voices to our efforts.

As a HR person, I'm going to very gently suggest another template that gives the same message in a way that will be more received by the target audience. In the end, the HC Five were not convicted of sexual assault, so arguing 'they did it anyway' is not going to go far (even if we all know that's what happened). The judge did not say there was insufficient evidence, but rather that EM's testimony could not hold the weight of evidence. Writing either of those things is basically telling the NHL that a Superior court conclusion should simply be ignored, which is not a strong argument for those who believe Hart 'won'. It also gives you little ground to stand on, because the Knights will just point back to the case and its verdicts.
But you can still strongly argue against Hart being hired. Maybe consider something like:
As I've pointed out before, use the league's own language:
troubling and unacceptable behaviour, poor moral judgment
falls short of standards we want to see in the league, not the values we want to see in role models
Be the pearl-clutching, think-of-the-children caricature that gets attention. Conservative executives listen to other conservatives. Use their language. Emphasize how we expect players to be role models for children. Even if you're a 20yo with no kids you can make up a persona (keep details to a minimum, the point is to be relatable to the audience they think they want) who won't take their kids to games, or buy merch, or will support someone else.
The league lives and dies by ticket and merch sales. Make a point that you will hit them where it hurts using language they can relate to and can't refute.
[ID: Two article excerpts that read:
(1) …Ontario, prior to these players' arrival in the NHL, were deepty troubling and unacceptable. The League expects everyone connected with the game to conduct themselves with the highest level of moral integrity. And, in this case, while found not to have been criminal, the conduct of the players involved certainly did not meet that standard.
(2) …Caroccia in her opinion, and the players’ acquittal, the League has determined that the conduct at issue falls woefully short of the standards and values that the League and its Member Clubs expect and demand. /. End ID.]

i think about that "the pop girlies yearn for espn" tweet a lot because like. everyone is so obsessed with stats now wrt music and like. sports is the ultimate stat play. there's stats about stats in sports. they make up new stats every single weekend in the nfl. "first player since the reagan administration born in the western part of the united states to throw for 25 touchdowns over 10 yards" "first player in the super bowl era to have a twin" like they just pull shit out of their asses for the sake of it and i think people obsessed with charts and sales would LOVE the nfl.
load bearing tweet for me
just met a three month old pomeranian named horchata. her paw was the size of my fingertip. she looked like half a dandelion fluff
this just got a hockey rpf tag. due to the nature of this website
other hockey rpf enjoyers now expressing skepticism and disbelief at the choice of man referenced above and tagging it with their preferred and more horchataesque men. i love it here and i'll leave when i die
