Welcome to Maria Flores Appreciation Day!
February 3rd, 2025 marks the day when Maria would officially be celebrating her birthday (as determined here), and would be turning 24 years old as per canon! Let's take this day to celebrate our hot-headed, perfectionist, and our most favorite and loved Class President!
We of course do apologize for introducing this event incredibly late, but worry not! You don't have to submit your creations on February 3rd! Submit whenever you like! We'll be accepting submissions until the end of the 2025 year.

General Guidelines for Submission:
Posts must be Maria-centric and Maria-appreciative/positive. The prompts listed are not mandatory. Feel free to come up with your own prompts/themes!
If you want your post to be considered a submission and listed on the masterlist, you must A) mention this blog and/or any of the hosts and B) specify which prompt or prompts you’re submitting for.
The tags #MariaFloresAppreciationDay, #MFAW, #MFAW2025, are highly recommended, but not necessary.
If your post is very long in length (eg. if it’s a long fic, has images that take up a lot of length), we highly recommend putting a “Read More” button in your post.
Any submissions that lean into NSFW or suggestive territory, and/or feature sensitive topics should be tagged accordingly.
We will still accept submissions even after the event date has passed. You will have until the end of the year to submit posts/creations for the current prompts! Eg. For the MFAW 2025 prompts, you will be able to submit for them until January 1, 2026.

Pieces or posts that you made prior to this event and/or initially not for this event, but you've decided you want to submit them!
WIP/unfinished pieces.
Submissions can be works that you have made yourself, or works that you have commissioned from someone else.

The adoption center was bustling with activity with potential parents waiting, social workers finalizing paperwork and couples leaving with happy kids. Ria was sitting in the waiting hall, her leg jiggling and her teeth biting her nails. Maria was pacing around the room fiddling with her fingers from time to time. The only sound was the clock ticking slowly and the tapping of feet.
'Stop pacing Mari, you are giving me an anxiety attack.' said Ria, unable to hold her tongue anymore. Her brow was sweaty despite the air conditioner humming softly in the room which had pastel colored walls and baby posters.
'I know Ri…but I can't help it. What if something goes wrong? What if they change their mind and we are not gonna get our baby? There are so many things that can go wrong and…I'm sorry I know I'm not exactly helping your nerves by ranting like this.'
Ria puller her onto a chair, and held her hand 'Okay, stop. No more of this negative talk. We have come this far already sweetie. Our paperwork is solid, thanks to your meticulous checking and re-checking, we've completed our parenting classes, the home inspections have gone smoothly, background checks have been cleared, our finances are great, and most importantly…we have lots of love to give to the little one.' Maria gave a weak smile at those words. 'How are you so level-headed when I'm a nervous mess here?'
Ria shook her head, rubbing a thumb over Maria's knuckles. 'Trust me I am as nervous as you are babe. But panicking isn't gonna help us. All we can do now is trust our hard work and the social workers to take the right call. And if they deny us a chance at adopting a kid…we'll keep trying.' She hugged Maria close, stopping the last of the tremors coming from her. Maria pulled back after a few moments and took a deep breath.
'You're right. We've done all we can, we just have to hope for the best. It's just…this adoption means a lot to us and I can't stop worrying…'
'The fact that you are worrying already proves you are gonna be a great mom Mari. Don't ever doubt that. And I'm always gonna be here to remind you of that.' Ria squeezed her hand. Maria squeezed back. 'We are gonna be great moms Ri. No matter what anyone says.'
Their small moment was interrupted by the office peon calling them in. 'Monero-Flores? The judge is ready to see you.' They both got up at the same time almost immediately and held each others hand tightly as they stepped inside the office.
Judge Rita was an older woman with a stern face but kind eyes. She nodded as they both came in to take their seats. Once they were seated she said 'So, I have gone through your paperwork. The social workers who have conducted your interviews and home visits are satisfied with what they have found and there is no reason to deny your request to adopt the baby you have seen.' She paused, looking at both of them. They held each other's hands under the table, waiting for Judge Rita to continue.
'Before we sign the papers confirming the adoption, do you understand that by proceeding you both are willingly taking the full responsibility of parenthood for the baby and you will be responsible for their well-being physically, mentally and emotionally and providing to their needs?' They both smiled and nodded. 'Yes, we are.'
Judge Rita smiled at them and told one of the attendants to get the baby from the nursery room. She returned a few moments later with a carrier with the three month old baby girl tucked in a pink blanket inside it. Ria cooed instantly as the carrier was placed in her arms. The baby blinked and looked up at her and Maria with big brown eyes, gurgling happily and grasping the air as if searching for something. Maria chuckled softly and ran a finger down the baby's cheek. The baby grabbed her finger curiously, being perfectly content with the warm atmosphere around.
'Curious little one aren't you?' said Maria, tickling her a little which made the baby squeal. 'She's perfect' said Ria, not able to keep her eyes off the baby. It was only when Judge Rita cleared her throat that brought the two of them back to the present.
'Just sign the final documents and the adoption process will be complete.' She said, smiling. Maria looked through the papers and everything was in order. There was only one field left blank for the baby's name with a space for their signatures. The judge asked 'So, what name have you decided for your baby?'
Maria smiled at Ria and then replied to the judge 'Andrea. Andrea Monero-Flores…our Andie.' She wrote it on the document and signed her name at the bottom. Ria did the same and the judge handed the documents to them 'Congratulations, you are officially the parents to Andrea now.'
They smiled and shook hands with the judge and walked out of the adoption center. They had walked in a couple and came out as parents to the sweet bundle of joy that was now safely tucked in the carrier in Ria's arms. Andie, as if sensing the importance of the moment gave a happy squeal and kicked in her carrier for emphasis. Maria laughed 'She sure will be giving us gray hairs before she can learn to talk.' Ria laughed along 'Oh definitely if she takes after your headstrong nature'
'Hey! I can be delightful when I want to be you know' aid Maria giving a mock pout. 'Oh sure advocate' said Ria as they continued their light hearted banter till they reached their car, with Andie giving happy squeals along the way.
Very cute story! Thank you for tagging me! I'm so glad for Ria and Maria's step into parenthood <3 and I really liked how you portrayed just how nerve-wracking it is going through the adoption process. Even Maria, who is usually on top of things, can't help but worry that they might have messed up on one place or another. It was a wonderful read seeing them get to go home with their daughter after all the trouble they went through <3

Fiery, hot-headed, ambitious and determined. That describes our favourite school president Maria Flores in a nutshell, from being the perfect dance planner to being the spy on an evil principal, Maria is an all-rounder and does things with a hundred percent accuracy. This fandom has been special to me since the day I joined it. One of my favorite things about this fandom was all the events that there are. It's a lot of fun to find inspiration in monthly challenges or coming together to celebrate a book or character. I love seeing the fandom come together and create and share in celebrating the fandom we love. So this thank you goes out to event and data base hosts!

February 3 is Maria's birthday in canon (and by extension, Maria Flores appreciation day @mariaflores-appreciation ). It always skeeved me off that MC can get a fancy new outfit for Maria's birthday party but everyone else– the birthday girl herself included!– just wears their homecoming outfits.
I'll be making special outfits for all the characters soon enough, but today of course I want to highlight Maria's birthday dress! <3 <3 <3
Bonus: her wearing some of the gifts that MC can get her! Heart-shaped necklace, alpaca wool scarf, and both.
