Summary: Mike was great at lying to others, but lying to himself? Not his cup of tea.
He had enough on his plate with holding up an entire second life. Adding self-deception to the list when he was alone with his thoughts? That was not only unnecessary but also required far more energy than he was willing to invest in hiding the obvious:
He liked seeing Harvey like that. Not lawyer-Harvey, not the NYC best closer, not even the man who sometimes let his guard slip in rare moments of honesty. Noāstoned Harvey was different. Stoned Harvey was real.

thereās not a day that I donāt go crazy upset when I think about the ending of Supernatural.
Like how did they really get away with that???? How did we ALLOW it????
I donāt lose my faith on them making a project later on (be it a miniseries, a movie or whatever they can afford) to tell us everything weāve been wondering since 2020
What happened when Dean and Cas talked??? How did Dean tell Sam about the love confession? HOW DID THEY SAVE CAS????
these and many other questions that wonāt let me sleep tonight
Thereās only one way out of this coffee shop and Dean wonāt get a flu on Casā watch.
āDonāt be stupid, Dean, you could get a flu.ā
āItās just two blocks, dude!ā
āAnd itās pouring rain!ā
Dean sighs. He looks at the completely fogged windowshop of the bakery shop.
āYouāll get wet,ā Dean complains.
āItās fine, at least I wonāt get a flu.ā
Dean rolls his eyes. Cas knows itās a sign of resignation (or victory, depends on whoās the one speaking).
Cas takes off his trenchcoat and hands it to Dean.
Dean takes it, annoyed, but somehow humbled at Casā gesture.
He puts it on and canāt help but feel like heās wearing a costume. Paradoxically, when he looks at Cas, he finds a complete different person, somewhat naked only with the black suit, white dress shirt and navy blue tie.
Dean walks to the door, opens it, and a small bell rings. He takes the neck of the coat all over his head and they both step out of the local shop.
Cas and Dean start jogging back to the motel a few blocks away, looking ridiculous because everyone else around them was carrying umbrellas.
Itās not like Dean doesnāt get wet, but at least he doesnāt get soaked like Cas.
Summary:
Dean is restless and tired. Cas wants to help. But Dean just wonāt let him.

The Impalaās engine is revving. Not in the way it does when Dean hits the gas pedal because heās angry, but in the way itās the only thing that can be heard in the 287 N route.
Itās nearly 2 am. Sam is asleep in the backseat and Cas is riding shotgun.
Deanās eyes are itchy. The past 20 hours without proper sleep are finally kicking in. Itās been a long day and a half since they started driving to a case in Idaho. Theyāre already near, though, so itās better to continue all night long and be there by sunrise.
Casā elbow rests on the window. He sighs.
āDean.ā Dean just gives him a vague look before fixing his eyes on the road again. Cas continues, āI can drive for the rest of the road.ā
āI donāt-ā
āNo, you never think itās a good idea,ā Castiel replies calmly enough. āAnd at what cost? I donāt need to sleep and you do.ā
āIāve slept-ā
āDonāt give me your talk about the ā4 hoursā of sleep,ā Cas replies, making air quotation marks.
āWill you let me finish a sentence?ā
Cas sighs. āSorry.ā
āWeāre only 2 more hours away from Idaho.ā
āTheyād suit you well, Dean. Youāve been going nonstop since last week.ā
Dean gulps. Itās been a fucking miserable week. Theyād been after a Belial, a powerful demon gone rogue, for months. Did they stop him? Yes. Did it cost the lives of hundreds of people? Also yes. If only he couldāve gotten there sooner, if only-
āDean?ā
Dean comes back from his thoughts. āUh, uhm, yeah, I havenāt exactly been sleeping well since last week, Cas. At all.ā
Cas meditates on the answer for a moment, thoughtfully picking his words. āDo you see them?ā
āEvery single one of them, every time I close my eyes.ā
Cas nods. āYou know I can help you with that.ā
Dean eyes him again, slightly raising his eyebrows. āThe nightmares?ā
āYes.ā
Dean doesnāt reply further. His pride wonāt let him ask Cas to do his mojo so he can actually rest.
Cas doesnāt say anything, either, because he considers heās pushed enough for the night. He doesnāt like to annoy Dean, and he knows heās done his fair share of lecturing already.
But. But.
He canāt just stand seeing him like that. It's well-known Dean has regular self-destructive behavior, but sometimes it gets ridiculous. If heāll piss Dean off for this, then so be it, because Dean will thank him later anyway.
Cas breaks the heavy silence in the car. āCan you just⦠let yourself be helped, Dean? Why is it so hard to let me help you? Me. Weāre friends, thatās what friends do.ā
āYouāre right. Except for the friends part.ā Cas looks at him, confused. āWeāre family,ā Dean corrected. āAnd I know you want to help. But you know me, man, I mean, youāve seen my soul. You saw it when it was at its lowest and you have to know I feel responsible-I am responsible for not catching Belial earlier. How could I sleep well at night?ā
āWe all feel responsible, Dean, but weāre not. We did everything we could. We tried our best. You tried your best and Sam and I and everyone who intervened knows it. And you certainly donāt deserve to punish yourself like this. Please,ā he begs, ājust give me this one. Let me drive us to Idaho, help you sleep better, and that will make me feel better about myself too.ā
Dean thinks. The highway is lonely, the chances something comes up in their way are minimal, and Cas is right: he needs to sleep or maybe heāll kill them all three.
āYouāve never driven Baby before.ā
āNo, but I know how to drive.ā
Well, okay, If Cas was competent enough to defy Heaven, defeat the Leviathan, and come back from the dead, he certainly can drive a 60ās car.
Dean pulls over and gets out of the driverās seat. Cas, triumphant, slides behind the wheel and Dean walks in front of the car until he gets up again, sitting on the passengerās seat.
āDonāt make me regret this, alright?ā he says, as he closes the door.
Cas nods, turns on the engine again.
Dean evaluates the way Cas holds the wheel, how not-cautious he is to get back on the road, and how easily he starts speeding up again.
āWatch the-ā
āThe RPMs and the temperature gauge, yes.ā
Cas adjusts the internal rearview mirror to his height, making sure the whole back windshield is visible.
āAnd donāt-ā
āForget to switch gears without engaging the clutch?ā
āOkay, alright, you know what youāre doing.ā
āThank you.ā
Dean stops being defensive, confident his precious car is in good hands.
He leans his head on the backseat, but finds the height uncomfortably low for his neck. He tries sliding down so his head can rest on the seat, but discovers thereās no enough room for his legs. He realizes, then, heād never tried to sleep on the shotgun place while someone else was driving. At least not since he was an adult.
He looks at Cas, who gives him this amused look like heās something between the lines of cute or adorable. Not like Dean will ever accept Cas or pretty much anyone defines him as any of those things, though.
Dean stretches to reach the floor of the backseat, grabs a jacket from the floor āhis? Samās? No idea, but itās hopefully cleanā and fumbles it into an improvised pillow on his shoulder.
āSo, will you do your, uh⦠thing?ā
Cas smirks. āHave a good rest, Dean.ā
āThanks. And for driving too, Cas.ā
Dean closes his eyes, Cas taps him in the forehead, and man, wasnāt Dean grateful for his guardian angel of a friend.
Thereās a supernatural episode in which Sam is having like an alternate life, and I think Dean goes to rescue him to the house where heās living, and Sam has a wife, and later Sam almost kills Dean in a diner (?)
