Agate gently grabbed the small marsupial and let it sit in the palm of her hand, the animal holding her thumb to keep give it a sense of security. Its tall was caught between branches when she found it. With the bruising that had developed she guessed that it had tried to jump out of the situation but was too stuck, thus failing.

“The are adorable, aren’t they? I think it’s the large eyes on the small head.”

“Wow, I didn’t realize we had animals that cute on the island. Is it yours?” Marian had never seen one of the creatures before. It was exciting to meet such a cute new animal.

And what the girl had said about the large eyes and small head. That could make an interesting potion... Making a person’s eyes larger and head smaller. She wondered if they’d look cuter. Probably not. They’d probably just look a bit scary.

“Yeah, the eyes are super cute. But it’s easy to be super cute when you’re a tiny fuzzy animal. The eyes just adds to the cuteness, making them cuter than tiny fuzzy animals like guinea pigs that have normal size eyes.”

Alex continued his press ups. His muscles certainly weren’t feeling fatigued yet, but he could do more than he’d currently done on a bad day, so he’d have to keep going. 

“I mean less to you than a guinea pig?” he said in mock hurt. Of course, he was joking. He loved animals and didn’t think they should be subjected to weird drugs and potions that Marian was brewing. 

“Got it,” he said. He was nearing the range where he might expect to start finding pushing back up difficult. “You even qualified to save my life?” he queried in the meantime.

Marian knew Alex was messing around so she went with it, “Of course. They’re cute fuzzy little creatures. You’re just a dude. Maybe if you had little fuzzy paws things would be different, but you don’t.”

“Of course I’m qualified! I work at a clinic, I heal people every day!” Marian said defensively. “And if it’s something I can’t do, then I’m able to carry you to someone who can do it.”

“But, you seem to be doing fine so, so far so good.” She said nodding and continuing to observe how he was doing.

The Sweet Witch || Fairytale AU

Man, the Lotus Butterflies sounded super cool. A magic that could make people have a group dream was super neat. Marian wondered if she could create a potion like that. Then people could go on adventures with each other from the safety of their own home.

But Marian also wondered... what would happen if she used one of the butterflies as an ingredient in a potion. What would that create? She’d never seen them used in any potion books she had. They were rare so she’d never gotten to experiment with them herself. She wondered if catching them was legal. Were they a protected species because they were so rare? Probably. She’d have to catch one in secret.

Marian snuck around with a bugs net, searching around to find a butterfly. When she found one she quickly caught it in her net. However, her plan was ruined when she tried to put the butterfly in the jar she’d brought. It touched her making her fall asleep and letting it get away.

Marian opened her eyes, blinking in the sunlight that poured in through her window. She was in her house, her gingerbread house. Her house was made entirely of different types of sweets, magicked to make them be big and to not melt or get sticky. It was an experiment that snowballed out of control. She was just trying to make a potion that made things bigger and suddenly she was building a house out of giant cookies.

There was a ding and Marian ran over to the oven. Her cupcakes were finished. She ran a business, a magical bakery where people could buy sweets that were made with potions. Why drink a potion when you can eat a cupcake and get the same affect? It was much more fun that way.

(important note: she is wearing a black dress and her witch hat is a candy corn.)

“Agreed,” Ford replied. Whether it was performing surgery or making snowmen, he was always prepared to give his best effort.

As Marian suggested that they get a ruler, the joke soared straight over Ford’s head, landing on a pile of its fallen brethren about 50 yards back.

“What an excellent idea! I believe I have some measuring tape in my desk drawer. I shall return with it posthaste. If you wish to start on the base in the meantime, go ahead. That one will take the longest, and the size of the others can’t be calculated until it is completed.”

Ford actually smiled a bit at that, happy to see Marian giving her best effort, as well as excited at the prospect of actually planning out a project from his childhood and making it a reality.

Marian laughed. Of course Ford took her joke seriously. It was such a Ford response.

“Alright, I will!” She said giving him a thumbs up.

People might think Ford was a boring guy, but he was actually pretty interesting. He was very genuine with everything he said and did. A straightforward guy. And maybe he didn’t get normal jokes, but that was ok. He was different than most people, but not in a boring way. Just, different in his own way.

If she’d been building the snowman on her own it probably would’ve ended up definitely imperfect. Because it was a thing to do for fun and why be perfect when you’re just having fun? But since she was building the snowman with Ford it was going to end up perfect. And she became excited to make a perfect snowman. Not only would it be fun, working on the snowman as if it was a super important project, but it would look way nicer out front than if she’d just thrown something together.

Marian was on her way home from her shift at the clinic. She sighed. The day had been super uneventful. Just healing people and helping people. No fun at all! It had been such a boring day!

Well, that was about to change with some girl falling out of the sky.

Marian’s eyes widened when she saw the girl land on her feet. She began to clap as the girl stood presenting herself.

“Sure,” She said in reply, “But I definitely would’ve caught you.”

She gave her a thumbs up.

Agate laughed at the positive applause and response she had received. She felt like a performer more than an animal rescuer, which was what it turned out that she was doing. Her adventure up the tree hadn’t started as a rescue mission, just a way to pass time, but as she climbed higher she had noticed an animal in distress. It was like her need to climb the tree was actually the animal’s telepathic calling.

“You would have been our hero!”

From behind her overalls, tucked safely between them and her shirt, popped out the small head of a sugar glider. Its wide-eyes scanned its surroundings and it scurried up her arm to rest on her shoulder.

She ran up to the girl and looked closely at the creature, “What is it?”

Alex stretched his arms out in front of him, looking at his splayed hands as though he was expecting to see webbed fingers. “Uh… I don’t think so?” If anything, he just felt a little bloated from having drank the potion so quickly. “Should I?” 

He dropped into a plank position and started to do press ups. Maybe he’d be able to do more than usual before tiring. However, it would take a while to find out, so he continued, “You’re telling me you made me drink that potion with absolutely no way of telling whether it would work?” 

“Maybe you’d feel your muscles? I don’t know, I guess if it worked how I’d like it to work you wouldn’t really feel different now. You’d just feel able to physically exert yourself for longer.” Marian said, stroking her chin.

She watched as he began exercising. Were they just going to wait for hours? She could just set a camera in the room on Alex and leave, but he was fun to talk to so she’d stay. If it was someone else she’d probably leave.

“Well, yeah. You’re the guinea pig. And I’m not going to use real guinea pigs. They can’t consent and that’s morally wrong.” She said, schooling him on her fresh ethics knowledge from the latest lecture she’d gotten on consent in the medical field. “If anything starts hurting or feeling weird let me know, ok? I’ll make sure you don’t die.”

“Waah, incoming!”

And right out of thin air, Agate fell from the sky. Well, a tree specifically. Although she would have preferred her usual animal-saving stories to explain what had just happened, there wasn’t one. This time she was being her usual self without an animal sidekick. As if to prove that she was perfectly capable of getting in trouble without anyone or anything’s help. Not something to be proud of…

Agate landed crouched on the ground and chuckled. She stood up and threw her hands in the air like a “tada” moment, which it easily was. The odds of her landing on her feet versus landing on her face were stacked against her by nature. Take that nature!

“It’s a good thing you weren’t any closer, huh?”

She laughed.
