Kyosai Kawanabe’s Sleeping cat (Collection of Museum of Fine Arts, Boston)
The ADHD/OCD comorbid struggle of being prone to both obsession (good, makes me happy) and obsession (horrible, makes me ill) and sometimes they combine on the same topic as a horrid ball of spiralling distraction
Friendly reminder that this manifesting/law of attraction/law of assumption thing might be really harmful and triggering for person suffering from OCD or other mental illness that has symptoms like intrusive thoughts and paranoia
Some affirmations
Your thoughts are just thoughts
Thinking about something doesnt make it any more or less likely to happen
Its not your fault that your mental illness is making you have negative thoughts
Thinking about a bad thing doesnt make you a bad person
Universe is a vast space with planets and stars and comets and stuff, its doing nothing to you and has no connection to your thoughts
Statements That Do Not Apply to OCD...
(Transcribed from this post from @the_ocdproject on Instagram, edited for grammar and spelling.)
“You attract what you fear”
“What you think, you become.”
“You can manifest your reality.”
“You are what you think.”
“Trust your gut instinct.”
“Everything happens for a reason.”
“What you feel, you attract.”
“You create your thoughts.”
Let’s talk about manifestation…
When you live with OCD, the concept of manifestation/the Law of Attraction can be absolutely terrifying.
As I’m sure many of you can relate to, scrolling past a “manifestation” post almost always results in my heart stopping momentarily… followed by my OCD embarking on the biggest rollercoaster known to man. In other words, I end up triggered, distressed, and bedbound for the rest of the day (the above description of events are, at best, an understatement). So let’s break it down. “Manifestation” is neither an accurate nor helpful concept that can be applied to anyone within the OCD community. Manifestation is routed in intention, which fundamentally, contradicts the ego-dystonic nature of OCD. It’s important to note that OCD will use anything that subscribes to it’s narrative as bait for its own benefit. Main message of this post: not every post that you read could or should be made relevant to OCD
