“Paul, why is Adam telling me you're a psycho?” You asked, head resting on the rough white fabric of your boyfriend's jeans. His long digits halted the relaxing motions they made through your untied locks. The joint sat loose in the corner of his mouth as you revealed what your friend had told you occurred between the two.
Usually he would laugh it off, maybe joke around a little like he just did, but even Paul couldn't hide the sight glint of truth in those baby blues. Of course, he wouldn't outright say it, but your friend had balls to go against his warning.
“Of course not, baby! I’m a psycho lover but that’s bout’ it.” He grinned, moving to boop your nose as you gazed up at him.
Paul wasn't stupid but he didn't quite like how you looked at him.
“Really?” You spoke, nose wrinkling up. Deep down you had wanted to believe him but the usually happy go lucky and very friendly friend of yours had refused to see you after that phonecall. Adam was never serious, never but his words had haunted you. The mere implication that your golden retriever boyfriend could and would do something so brutish had been hard to believe.
“Aw what? You don't really think-"
“Oh you do.” Paul sighed.
“Look baby. I wasn't gonna say nothing but Adam ain't as friendly as you think he is.”
“What do you mean by that?”
“Really didn't wanna tell you this but...” Paul put on a good show of hesitancy as he thought about how he could get out of this. He knew you only had a small friend group excluding the boys but this one had to go. He had been friendly so far until the night your friendship with Adam had began to seriously annoy him. It was the time he would see you two spend together like movie nights at yours when you hadn't noticed him perched nearby and most definitely when Adam had been able to make his princess smile. Paul wanted that all for himself, selfishly but rightfully. You had been turned and by all rights, you were his, all of you. That smile belongs to him and your laugh was the only music his ears should be graced with. “He is obsessed with you.” He started, ignoring the small inhale you gave. “Like a whole other level obsessed. I didn't threaten him, he threatened me!”
Paul smothered your objection with a finger on your lips.
“Didn't wanna see you get hurt and I certainly was not gonna be chased away either.”
You couldn't quite put your finger on it. On one hand you had believed Adam but you also believed Paul. He hadn't done you wrong and if anything got on like a house on fire when you introduced him to your friend group... Still. It made your skin crawl at the uneasy situation they put you in. Trust was always a touchy subject to you but as you lay there feeling guilty and a touch anxious at the other side of the story, you knew in your heart that Paul would never lie to you. He was too open and genuine to even think of it. Boy couldn't keep a secret for his life, you smiled and caused Paul to stop his rambling.
“Hey what's so funny, sweet thing? Am I being silly?”
“No, no. I’m not laughing at you.”
“I think you are,” a large grunt curled at the corners of his mouth and soon you found yourself at the mercy of his fingers. Laughs wrecked your body, filling the cave as your body jerked helplessly. Soon your laughs and protests were smothered by his lips, and what was once an attack on your sensitive sides became something of the more sexual kind. Fuck, his appetite.
Things were going great, or so you thought. Your friends knew about the situation and Adam had been a touchy subject since you stopped hanging with him. From what you heard here and there, he had been asking about you a lot, but it didn't matter with Paul and his brothers distracting you from the unneeded drama unfolding.
That had been the tip of the iceberg so to speak. It turns out you didn't know Paul as well as you thought he did. The cereal you had been slowly eating, fell and spoiled the carpet as the story echoed throuout your small bedroom from the TV. A body had been found washed up on the shore in the early morning. Murder and corpses were not unheard of and if anything you grew almost used to the morbid fact having lived in the literal murder Capitol of the world for as long as you did. That hadn't bene what phased you, oh no. The descriptions that identified the body had hit home for you. The presenter had mentioned dark hair, severely chipped black nailpolish and a momento of sorts. The one giveaway that made all the difference, the remains of the tattoo that had remained on the corpse’s shoulder. Blood and gore covered the weeping mark, a simple flame in the cool colours of purple and blue- now standing out profoundly against deathly pale and sunken skin.
And not even two weeks since your step sister Claire had disappeared. It was all going downhill fast and now, you just felt numb and useless to it. No one was going to believe you, trouble maker or not that your sweet Paul could have... Not even your friends who had been rather distant lately. You didn't think even Jessie- the least busiest would be able to come round and- help you process or fucking even distract yourself. You felt ashamed for even thinking of asking after blowing them off a few too many times and as you crouched down to clean up the mess you made, you couldn't help but just feel like- like- a robot almost in the way that you slowly and diligently made sure to get everything out. That was done but now what? What could you do now that you suspected something was wrong, really wrong? No one to talk to and an empty house wrapped you in a deep blanket of helplessness and stress it had been hard to do anything, basic and normal stuff.
Unwashed and in your pyjamas was how he found you when you hadn't answered the door like you usually did. He had a feeling something was off. Hovering around, he had spotted a dimly lit window belonging to you.
Paul had not expected the accusation, the sheer fright on your face and the way in which you scrambled away from the window like a spooked animal. He didn't like it not one bit, but the cat was out of the bag now and it wasn't as if he had been malicious or anything- despite what you were screaming at him.
“Remember when I said I wanted to be the only one on your mind... well... things got out of hand.” Paul appeared concerned from behind your window- your second story window. You might have felt sorry for him with the rain battering down heavy and unrelenting but not sorry enough to believe him again.
You flinched when he placed his hand on the window. The exact hand where you noticed the missing ring, the ring that had been found in the ripped open belly of...
A high pitched sob clawed it's way up your heavy throat as you clutched the bedding that followed you to the floor.
“Babe, please. Open up, I'm not gonna hurt you- I could never.” The mere thought of doing just that- hurting you- repulsed him entirely. He had done you a favour, helping you adjust to life after you unknowingly consumed his blood. He wanted nothing more than to comfort you, hold you and kiss you better but the way things were going, it didn't look pretty.
“Go!” You screamed, a flash of anger had you throwing a pillow at the window.
Paul ducked on impulse despite being behind a thick barrier of glass. If his heart was beating it would have dropped to hear you say that. You didn't really want him to go, did you? How could you say that. You were his everything and all he wanted was to see you happy, yet you didn't want him, or at least that’s what your silly brain seemed to think. There was no way- Paul couldn't fathom you not loving him.
“You can't stay in there forever baby and I don't want you to. That’s no way to live.” He admitted, fingers curling under the edge as subdued as he could. He didn't want to startle you more than you already were.
“What are you, Paul? Can you at least tell me that.” You asked, well aware that you were trully and royally fucked. The creak of the window giving way to monstrous strength sent a strike of fear up your spine as it slowly slid up. You atleast wanted to know what your killer was before it maimed you- like the gruesome picture painted earlier.
“Are you sure you wanna know?”
