Title: Choices
For my final project I chose to combine Fauvism, Cubism, and Abstract expressionism with a futurism approach. I was thinking about how fast the world has changed and the compounding reactions it has on itself. Art is one of the few things that even though people are looking at the same thing, it still can be interpreted entirely differently from one another’s perspectives. What if we could choose how we see things, could landscape change to our visual preference? I used trees to simulate a simple landscape with a future man-made sun (a lens) that replaced ours as we know it. The freedom to choose!
I incorporated the Fauvism movement into the tree on the left. I used bold complementary colors like red/green, and purple/yellow. I tried not to care to much about the brush stroke direction or the amount of paint that was applied with each “blot”.
The tree all the way to the right is where I incorporate Cubism. I used geometric shapes that are angular and blocky to create the canvas of the tree. Looking at it now, I wished that I had more muted colors that I could have used.
The last movement that I incorporated was abstract expressionism which is my favorite part of the piece. The tree in the center is comprised of hands that represent the leaves and family that represents the trunk. By fusing bodies and human hands together to create a tree gives it a different meaning to alive, and symbolic to how a family grows together!
