It's the run up to the start of classes (which start the 28th for me) and I have to help my sister move into her dorms (move-in is the 24th) and my dad is really sick (so it's an endless shuffle of doctor's offices; I've been in three over this weekend already). So, I will be one even less. Before it was mostly lurking, but now I can't really be on. I am still coming back, maybe in a week's time, but I thought I should at least state as much. I am reblogging an updated list of who I owe. It isn't long at this point, but it needed a little updating.

Occupations

A common misconception is that there are only few roles to assume in the world of Pacific Rim which results in duplicates of the same occupation and results in a lack of originality. Provided is a list of all the occupations one could hold while serving with the PPDC.

RANGER : You now hold the rank that places the balance on your shoulders. You’ve survived the Kwoon Combat Room, you have displayed tremendous amounts of combat knowledge, composure, and promise when it comes to piloting a Jaeger against the Kaiju.

JAEGER PSYCHE ANALYST : You’re the first to experience the minds of future pilots, before some poor, defenseless soul is neck up in the drift with them. Your job is to help trainees and graduated pilots both not only work through their old fears and demons, but cope with new ones, so that they can drift successfully. JAEGER ASSAULT SPECIALIST : You know all the ins and outs of what it takes to bring a kaiju down. Even jaegers have to have a fighting style, and from in-your-face to attack-and-retreat, you are making sure our trainees and pilots are ready for anything when faced with a monster. KWOON FIGHTMASTER : That which can be done inside a jaeger, must first be mastered from outside one. You teach our trainees everything from hand-to-hand combat to weaponized assault, and provide insight into which are compatible to fight together whilst in the drift. CONN-POD CONTROL : You teach the Trainees the do’s and don’ts of the Conn-Pod (control panel of the jaegers), making sure they know exactly what they’re doing before they’re out there for real. You know how to fix, tune, and maneuver the controls inside a Jaeger better than anyone.

WEAPONS SPECIALIST : You are what stands between us, and them in the battle of offensive power. It is up to you to design and research the next big jaeger add-on that will have those kaiju turning tail on sight. Swords, plasma guns, missiles, and everything in between. JAEGER ENGINEER : You are responsible for not only designing jaegers in all their glory, but for maintenance and support, as well. You are the life support for humanity’s most important machine, and are just as likely to be found making repairs on the body of a jaeger as you are researching a new design to give us the edge. NEURAL BRIDGE OPERATOR : The neural drift process is shaky territory, at best. You are what stands between our pilots and utter existential annihilation, responsible for maintaining the stability of the drift connection. BATTLE PROGRAMMER : You are the mind behind the mech, programming the jaegers to be battle-ready and more than that, smarter and easier to maneuver than our enemy. You program the battle interfaces into that which stands between us an oblivion.

[ K - S C I E N C E ]

KAIJU BIO-HARVESTER : You get up close and personal with the beasts, literally venturing into the belly of the enemy and harvesting kaiju body parts. All are useable in some way, and vital to new research. CRYPTOZOOLOGIS : Kaiju groupies, anyone? You are elbow-deep in kaiju blue on a regular basis, analyzing and examining each of our foe in the hopes that you might find some sort of understanding to tip the scales further in our favor. HAZMAT OFFICER : With strong biological awareness and an instinct for containment, you will be responsible for neutralizing the toxic threats that cripple a strike zone in the months that follow kaiju attack, neutralizing kaiju blue and preventing the toxic bloodmist from infecting the civilian population, you are a foot soldier on the front lines of the biological battleground. K-WATCH SENTRY : Your senses are vigilant, your protective instincts are off the charts. As K-watch Sentry, you will tirelessly monitor the breech for kaiju activity, issuing emergency response protocols that send a Jaeger into full assault mode. The kaiju can strike at any time, and you will be waiting.

[ S T R I K E G R O U P ]

SHATTERDOME MARSHALL : You are the last person standing, the last pillar to fall. You are the focal point around which everyone else stands strong. With the help of select other staff, you put drift teams together, and you decide who goes out to face the kaiju. LOCCENT MISSION CONTROLLER : You direct Jaeger counterattack during kaiju combat, giving a constant helping hand to your friends on the front line. You are their eyes and ears, and can and will be providing life-saving support on a regular basis. PPDC STRIKE TROOPER : With a psyche built for battle, you are an elite solider in the war on kaiju. At a moments notice you may find yourself deployed to any shatterdome around the pacific rim, dispatched to the streets of an exclusion zone, laying down fire from the ground. You are a rare breed - few have the courage to stand their ground in the face of a hurricane. JUMPHAWK : You are a member of the airborne fleet responsible for the highly dangerous deployment and extraction of a Jaeger. With your combination of courage and protective instincts, you are a natural choice to navigate the most dangerous drop-zones on Earth, and adapt to the physical rigors of specialty vehicle operations. As every Jaeger’s guardian angel, the sky belongs to you now. MED TEAM : Whether it’s handling day to day injuries that happen in a high-risk facility like the Shatterdome or keeping a sharp eye on the Rangers and varying staff alike, the Medical Team’s got your bandages and stitches and everything else for who knows what else.
