They grow up so fast! Hope she had a great day.
They do, so do. She did, thank you. Says she wants to go to school for the rest of her life - that will most definitely change in a few years when she tries to call sick to stay home, but we’ll take it while it lasts! Hope you’re doing well. You’re always welcomed to come by the house, Zola would be happy to hang out with Piper again. Hope she is enjoying Seattle more!
Dunno, I always loved going to school too and then decided on a profession that meant even more time studying! With her parentage, she’s likely to be a little scholar! I’m good thanks, just got back from a road trip vacation with Pip! We’ll be sure to stop by next time she’s here to visit!

Thanks grandma Carolyn for making this adorable little board. This big girl has been waiting all summer to get to strike a pose with it and was over the moon to get to do it this morning. No more baby… she is off to school.
They grow up so fast! Hope she had a great day.

As Mason pulled away from her lips she refused to open her eyes, this was a moment that she wouldn’t forget. The moment that she realized that she wanted Mason as more than just a friend, as more than someone to run to when things were good or a shoulder to cry on when they weren’t. In this moment she wanted him to fill the void that was growing inside her. Not just because she was alone. Not just because Alex left, because she knew deep in her heart that there were feelings there for him. There always had been. She had been happy, she had known love. But right now she knew that she wanted this. And she wanted him and everything that he had to offer. Shifting slightly she rested her head in his hand that had creeped up to hold her head in place, “If I’m being honest, I’ve wanted this for a long time.” Her whispers left her lips as her hand slipped down between them, her hand on his tight stomach, feeling the muscles there there until her fingers reached the top of his sweatpants. Feeling the band of his pants for a moment, enjoying the feeling of his hot body and the soft fabric of his pants joining, a small barrier to separate her from her goal. She ran her hand down the front of his pants to feel his member straining against her hand. She heard a soft gasp from him and she leaned forward to once again kiss his lips.
Her words are like music to Mason’s ears, he’s dreamed of this moment before and his sleepy brain is still not convinced that he isn’t still asleep. It’s more real than anything he’s ever dreamed before though, and her hands on his body are holding him in place. “You have?” Her fingers are journeying down his body and he feels a gasp leave his mouth involuntarily as they press down and he feels his hips tilt towards her instinctively. As their lips met he opens his eyes, drinking in the beauty in front of him so he won’t ever forget this moment. Mason hasn’t felt this way about someone in a really long time, hasn’t allowed his heart to open up to anyone since he was a teenager but now he knows, he can finally admit that Laine Thompson has found her way in through the cracks. Letting his own hands dance down her back, he can’t help but smile against her lips as he explores the contours of her body. Letting his hand slip beneath her shirt he’s stunned at how warm her skin is. “
I’m sorry.
Did you need something?
Oh, uh yeah. I’m looking for an assist on a skin graft actually. You interested?
That was awkward.
I won’t tell if you won’t.

Karen: Mama bear, how sweet that is, I love it.
Karen: Not sure if ready is ever going to be a thing, but I'm excited about meeting her, that's for sure. I can't wait to see her little face on more than sonograms. She's already got the cutest chubby cheeks but it has to be so much cuter in person. I'm a cranky mess these days, so, if you ask me I'm doing fine, but people may say I'm a real pain in the butt.
Karen: Um... yeah, Austin is um...
Karen: I found a note this morning. On my front porch.
Karen: He's gone back to the East coast.
Mason: Well good, I'll keep using it then. Let me know if you need anything by the way.
Mason: Piper can't wait to come see her when she's born. Apparently new babies are the cutest thing ever. I don't believe it K, you could never be a pain in the butt.
Mason: He what?? Huh glad he bothered to tell me.
Mason: Sorry, not your fault. Thanks for passing on the message.

Mason: Hey mama bear, hows it all going? Feel ready??
Mason: You haven't seen my brother have you ... feel like he's avoiding me!

Feeling his fingers slip between hers she tries to smile. She was almost sure it came across as a grimace at best. But she was happy. It was nice to be reminded of all the things you forget while you’re in the middle of the darkness. It’s nice to know that people see the way that you continue to care, even if you’re barely breathing. “Shut up Mason,” she said leaning forward in her sleep riddled brain and pressed her lips gently against his. Kissing him sent chills down her spine and butterflies to her stomach. How long had it been since she felt this way? In the back of her mind, she didn’t want him to think that he was a rebound guy, she didn’t want him to think that this wouldn’t have happened had she not been going through a major breakup. He was a great guy and she was lucky to have him, much less to be in his bed. Right now she couldn’t think of a single place she would rather be.
As Laine shifted to kiss him, Mason’s first reaction was to kiss her back. He’d wanted to kiss her for such a long time, had been fighting the feelings that were now bouncing around in his chest for so many reasons; she was his friend, she was in a relationship, she was happy and he didn’t mind that he just had to stand on the sidelined and watch. Being friends with Laine had been more than enough for him. Until now, until the moment her lips touched his and his hands were in her hair, holding her close to him, he hadn’t realised until this moment how much he ached for more. How much he wanted to be more. Breaking the kiss slightly he kept their foreheads still pressed together and his lips brushed hers softly as he spoke. “You sure about this?” If she was then he meant what he said earlier, that he could be whoever she needed him to be. But he wanted her to be sure, didn’t want this to be a sleepy regret.

Embracing the feeling of his warmth wrapped tightly around her, feeling him squeeze her a little tighter as they lay there curled up against one another. Her thumb gently gliding back and forth on his forearm. She didn’t really have time to think about the way that she was feeling, other than the warmth and the pressure of him wrapped against her back. She leaned back a little, trying to melt into him more. Feeling his hot breath on her neck and his strong arms around her waist, there wasn’t much to think about. She suddenly had butterflies in her stomach and chest as he whispered into her ear. “I’m not thinking about him anymore..” she matched his tone as the words slipped from her lips she pressed her body back into his. She was laying in his bed. It had been so long since she had laid in anyone’s bed other than her own and much longer still the last time she laid in a bed with someone other than Alex. Thoughts rushing through her head creating white noise, the only thing she knew is that she didn’t want to feel alone anymore and being here with Mason she knew that she wasn’t.
Mason swallowed and nodded against her cheek. “Good, because you’re an amazing person Laine Thompson and don’t you ever forget it.” He couldn’t quite believe this wasn’t a dream, and that she was laid there in his bed pressed so tightly against him he could feel every curve of her body. Feeling her thumb on his forearm again, he twisted it around to catch ahold of her hand and laced his fingers through hers. He didn’t know what she needed from him right now but his sleep-fogged brain thought he should just tell her the truth. “You’re an incredible surgeon, you care so much about every single kid on that peds floor, even the ones that you don’t personally treat. You’re kind, and funny and ...” Mason’s voice was still just a murmur but dies suddenly, his lips pressing together before he continues. “So beautiful. Your friends think the world of you, and you’re so loyal and brave and one of the best people I’ve ever met.”
Wrapping her arms around his chest and holding him tightly to her as she continued to cry. She wasn’t sure what was wrong with her, but she knew that the life that she had grown so fond of was over. She leaned into his embrace and tried to pull herself together and tried her hardest not to get snot all over his shoulder. She listened and found herself finding comfort in the way that he stroked her hair. She was a little surprised by this. Maybe that’s what she needed, someone to hold her together when she couldn’t do it anymore. “Its only going to get worse… I still have to see him almost every day. We work on the same floor,” she whimpered through her tears. She wasn’t trying to feel sorry for herself but this was happening. “I’ll come over when I get done. I can’t stay there. I won’t stay there,” pulling her head up and looking at him in the eyes, knowing that she looked a mess and still he was being so kind to her even though she didn’t deserve it. “Thank you,” she sniffled and wiped her eyes trying to gather the courage to leave.
Meeting her eyes, he nodded slowly. She was totally right about it getting worse, she’d have to deal with her broken heart while having him right there in her face every day. At least when Imogen had left him he’d been able to focus on the rest of his life and try his best to put her out of his mind. Laine wouldn’t have that luxury. “You hold your head up high and you show him what he’s missing out on Laine, because you’ve done nothing wrong and you shouldn’t have to feel like you need to hide away from him. If anyone should feel like that it’s him.” Mason tries to hold his face neutral but he’s angry about what Karev and Brighton have done to the people they were supposed to love. There’s no excuse for making someone feel the way he can see Laine feeling now. “No problem, whatever you need. That’s what I can be okay, whoever you want me to be.”
Dreams are a Wish || Mason & Laine
There was a deep pang in her chest as he wrapped his arm around her and curled up beside her. It felt like someone had just punched her in the chest and instantly flooded the space with butterflies. She wasn’t sure what she was feeling but at least she was feeling again. She melted back against him and mumbled a short, “Mhmm, just can’t sleep.”
She wrapped her hand around his arm that draped over her, letting him know that she wanted him to stay. She found herself wanting to be wrapped up in his arms. The sheets smelled like a combination of Mason and laundry soap. It was a comforting smell and found herself completely wide awake and very little potential to sleep. She matched her breathing with his for a moment. “Did I wake you?” she murmured gently, speaking into the distance ahead of her but hoping that he hadn’t fallen asleep.
Shifting sleepily so he curled around her like a protective shell, Mason’s brain didn’t really process what he was doing until they were already there. Feeling her hands around his arm gave him the confidence that he wasn’t acting out of line, and he gave her a gentle squeeze to make sure she knew the feeling was reciprocated. “Nah, wasn’t really falling asleep. Thinking about work.” His voice is barely more than a murmur and heavy with sleep, slipping right into her ear from his lips. He hasn’t got time to filter his words, his brain is filled with thoughts of Laine and having her in his arms, in his bed, it’s intoxicating. “Stop thinking about him, he’s not worth it.”
Dreams are a Wish || Mason & Laine
Laine jolted awake quite suddenly, finding tears on her face as she did… Her breathing was shaky and choked as the dream she’d been having quickly faded from memory… She’d been in love, she’d been so in love and it had felt so real but it had been torn away by the moonlight gently filtering through the curtains now and onto her face… she hadn’t wanted to wake up… Everything had been perfect and then he’d faded away as she awoke and now he was slipping further and further from her mind as she became more conscious… She needed to get out, she needed to go somewhere and distract herself and calm down. She felt just so… empty… like something was missing. She’d been feeling like that for a few days now but she couldn’t place why and now it just seemed ten times worse after that… that dream that she could barely remember. Crawling slowly into his bed, attempting to not rouse him. Attempting to not rock the bed at all she slid her legs into the sheets.
Mason was drifting in and out of sleep, he’d had a tough surgery that morning that hadn’t gone as planned and was going to have to go in again tomorrow and continue to work on the patient. Unfortunately now his brain just wouldn’t switch off and every time he almost fell asleep he’d have another thought and have to work through it before he could file it away and start to try and sleep again.
He thought he was dreaming when he heard the bedroom door open and the soft padding of feet over to the bed. It was only when a small body slipped into the sheets beside him and he could feel the warmth radiating off her that he realised it was real. “Hey, you okay?” He murmered softly, rolling over and instinctively wrapping an arm around her.
Allowing Mason to step closer to her, allowing him once again into her space, a space that hadn’t been breached in such a long time. It felt like ages since she had stood this close to anyone, even though it was just a moment ago that Meredith had told her the news that the life she had built, had been building up again was gone. Mason brushed the tears away, off her cheeks and spoke so carefully and so deeply into her soul. She tried to stop crying but the tears just kept coming. But as he continued to speak about betrayal her heart broke. The final piece of her heart shattered and she knew that it was over. There wasn’t anything that she could say, she knew she needed to speak to Alex but at the same time, she didn’t want to leave Mason. She was going to leave the comfort of one person and run into utter and total chaos. “Mason, how do I face him? How do I do this?” she wailed, tears streaming down her face with newly renewed vigor.
When her tears didn’t stop, Mason decided to pull her into a hug again, holding her tightly against his body. “Facing him is going to be shitty but hopefully he knows that, and hopefully he feels bad about what he’s done. Just try to say whatever it is you want to say to him, get it all out or you’ll regret it later.” Stroking her hair and wishing there was more he could do, he closed his eyes, head resting against hers. “Once you’ve spoken to him, and I guess got some stuff if you’re wanting out of there, then come over to mine and we can order in some food and watch something on Netflix so you can try to forget about it for a little while.”
We All Start As Strangers || Mason & Meredith [Tast #7]
askbiggrey-xx:
Listening closely to Mason’s confessions, Meredith nods her head, understanding. She smiles as he points out about her kids, and how great it must be to grow up so close to their cousin. “It’s great, they’re all very fond of each other and they could live 24/7 together if we made that happen.” She smiles. Nodding as he recalls about his brothers, Meredith shrugs. “I didn’t have any siblings growing up. I had my cousin Allison, well Dr. Riley-Bradford… We were very close, she’s basically a sister to me. So I can relate in that sense, and I’m glad our kids got that. It creates great memories that will follow them throughout their whole lives so, I’m just glad we get to offer them that.” Meredith’s head goes back to what Mason had shared with her, about how his daughter had met her him, her father, for the first time at fifteen years, and it sort of brings her into a place she had not been in for quite some time now. And though she was never one to share about her life, hearing about Mason’s daughter, him confiding in her about her and asking for advice somehow made her feel comfortable enough to open up. And so very unlike her, she slipped into her thoughts for a moment before speaking up. “You know, I can understand that… the whole it being hard to meet your dad when you’re fifteen.” Meredith nods. “My dad left when I was five… well, he didn’t actually leave…” She shakes her head. “Anyway. I was 25 when I saw him again.” Her eyes grow wide as her vision leaves her thoughtful mood and comes back to present time, finding Mason’s. She shrugs. “It’s startling, confusing even. I mean, she’s living it her way, it can’t be the same for everyone. But I think I get the feeling. I’m sure she’s glad she’s met you. Wondering about a parent, where they’re at and why they’re not around is quite troubling for a kid. When those questions are answered, it can be hard, but it also feels relieving to know. You know. Anyway, I’m sure she appreciates all you’re doing for her.” Meredith nods along with a shrug. She could see how important it was for Mason to make sure his daughter felt at ease and wanted him around and in her life. And from the kid’s perspective, the one that had waited for her father to come home all these years, it was all she ever wanted her father to do. Instead, she had been the one to track him down and want him to want her. Things were different now, times had changed, they had changed. But still, she could relate. That young girl was a lucky girl.
“Maybe, well tell me if this is asking too much, but maybe you could have a chat with Piper about it? I mean I know all of this has been confusing for her and it’s been a really tough time but she seems to be coping so well and I’m worried that she’s putting that on so she doesn’t worry me.” He swallowed hard, glancing over at the other doctor as she confesses his anxieties. “Maybe if she could talk to someone who has a sort of similar experience that could help her?” Mason bit his lip, really hoping he wasn’t crossing a line or that if he was she’d just call him out and tell him no. “No worries if you’d rather not though, I understand and it’s just a thought.” His name is called by the consult he’s waiting for and Mason is temporarily confused, he was so engrossed in his conversation with Dr Grey that he’d forgotten why he was even up there on the psych ward. Glancing down at the notes in his hand, about his patient with the elective surgery, it all comes rushing back and he looks back up at Meredith. “Thank you so much Dr Grey, this has been a really great chat, and I’m glad we had the chance to do this and well thanks for all the advice and everything.” He smiles gratefully, hoping he’s not monopolised her time too much. Standing up and stretching out his back, Mason grabs his patient notes and laptop bag before heading into Dr Gardiners office with a wave goodbye.
Taking a moment to look at where his hand held hers and internally attempting to process why she felt something as he held on to her a little tighter before letting go. There was something about holding hands that meant something to Laine, more than any other kind of physical connection that established something for her. Looking back up at his face to see the way that he was conflicted, even just for a moment as he stepped away from confrontation, away from saying something that would cause her to hurt more. She nodded her head and broke her eye contact. She was hurting. There was nothing more to it than that. Only being able to feel hurt was exhausting. But when he promised to stand by her and to be there for her, she knew that she had a friend. In the midst of feeling so incredibly alone, there he was. She tried not to cry. She really did. But as the tears started to slide down her face she bit back more sobs. Using her hands to cover her face, so he didn’t have to see her like this. “I’m so sorry,” she said as she tried to stifle her tears.
Mason raised a hand ever so slowly, unsure of his place right now and not wanting to step across a boundary. Reaching towards Laine he took her hand again, tugging it gently away from her face and lightly brushing away the tears with his thumb. “Don’t be sorry, you have nothing to apologise for Laine. This isn’t your fault, and you shouldn’t be the one apologising for something that he did. He’s been selfish and mistreated you and that’s a really horrible thing to do.” Mason’s words are running unchecked, he’s not even sure what he’s saying as they tumble from his mouth but he hopes the general sentiment can get through. “He betrayed the relationship you had, and that’s something to hurt about and you’re allowed to feel that pain. You shouldn’t be sorry for that.”
