Happy Find Beauty Friday. Today I am sharing pictures that I took during my stay at Graylyn Manor in Winston Salem NC. It was AMAZING you guys. The grounds and accommodations are exquisite and the staff was wonderful. I highly recommend visiting the Estate if you are in the area and get the chance.
The history of the property is also really interesting and dates back to 1927. Since the story is kind of long, I am not going to go into here , but if you would like to read more about it then click the link. The short version is that the estate was built by Bowman Gray, the Chairman of the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co board, and is now managed by Wake Forest University and used primarily as an international conference center.
As I mentioned below the grounds and the estate are exquisite. Hopefully my picture do them justice.
When I pulled up to the Main Manor House I was greeted by several employees who opened my car door and showed me inside to the registration desk. That’s what I call customer service. What I love about the property is how authentic it feels. You know immediately that this place has history, which is evident by the plaques on the wall. NOTE: It had been raining when I took the first 2 pictures so my lens kept getting foggy (sorry).
I took tons of pictures inside of the manor house and could have spent hours just looking around. My 2 favorite pictures are the first one which I took in a stair well, looking up at the staircase and chandelier. My second favorite is the up close picture I took of this vintage chess piece.
Even though I took a lot of pictures I wish that I would have taken more of the grounds. Apparently there is a beautiful rose garden, tennis courts and a pool that I didn’t get to see. Guess I will just have to go back.
THE MEWS – Converted Stables
The Mews was were my room was located and it is down the road from the main Manor House. In addition to having 35 rooms the Mews also has a gym, hospitality office, gift shop and conference area. According to the website it was designed to resemble a french cottage.
My room was soo cool. The first picture is of my room key…..which is an actual key (how cool is that?) From the outside it looked like a converted stables. However once you stepped inside it was both modern and rustic. The third picture is a close up that I took of the desk chair. The outside of the chair was covered in horses hair. I am not sure if it was fake or not but it looked real to me (sorry PETA people).
In all I stayed at Graylyn for 3 days and 2 nights and highly recommend it to anyone who is planning an event, conference or a weekend away.
