power failure // closed / gat
He kept looking straight ahead as he gave Kirk his own name.
â⊠Gat.â
It wasnât as if pleasantries were wasted on Gat, but the difference between standoffish Gat and regular Gat were very subtle. At that moment, their mutual goal was just to enter the elevator tube anyway, althoughâŠ
â⊠⊠I have no idea how they work.â
And in lieu of that knowledge, forcing the door open worked as well as anything. Gat took a step back, made a small gesture for Kirk to enter the busted in elevator. Once in, heâd followed. The functions of the elevator didnât seem too damaged by Gatâs intrusion, although that analysis may have been premature.  Once closed, the ascent began with a slow whirring, and, as is proper to these kinds of shenanigans, powered down once they were well on their way back to the surface.
Kirk nodded in acknowledgement of the other manâs name, and gave a half-hearted shrug to his next statement. It seemed the nuances of this world were an equal mystery to both of them. Forcing the doors open would most likely have been Kirkâs own choice of solving their dilemma. He stepped inside without comment.
It wasnât the most spacious means of transportation, but they both seemed to fit well enough- he wasnât particularly claustrophobic, if anything. He let out a small sigh of relief as they began to ascend, and when they stopped he looked expectantly at the doors.
He lingered quietly for a moment before finally turning to the other man.
âSomething tells me weâre not quite there yet.â
Without hesitation, he reached forward and rapped his knuckles on the door. They were greeting by nothing, save for a metallic clank in response to Kirkâs knocking.
